John Tucker - The break at 1:34, sometimes it is all about the silence, flawless.
I honestly find them boring and soulless compared to Tori. Not a single smile, not a single lick anywhere.
jeagerpoelse - Every painting needs a frame, some are fancy, some are most effective in their elegant simplicity.
What classixdrummer said. This arrangement was all about subtlety and letting her vocal shine. The keys player is absolutely holding it down. Those bass lines with the left hand? Check out 2:56 - 3:18 again. It's about those subtle little motifs they sneak in there. This wasn't meant to be a Snarky Puppy jazzed out over the top instrumental version. Nothing wrong with that but it has it's place and this song (especially with Tori on it) wasn't the right place for that kinda thing. Their job was to hold done the groove, which they did a superb job of.

I sometimes get annoyed when artists are constantly doing runs. It somehow feels self-indulgent and just like..for the sake of doing runs. With Tori though, they add SO MUCH to the texture and emotion without taking away from the lyrical context. Her runs are a PART of her expression (and they're just ridiculously good), it's incredible. Most underrated singer out there!!

I agree too many runs and riffs can be overwhelming on a song and end up hurting the song Christina Aguilera use to have that problem but she doesn’t anymore Beyoncé use to also do the same thing but when an artist knows where to apply it it’s like magic

When it's for a vocalist with such talent, it makes sense to keep the instrumentals minimal to keep the focus on her performance... but it really works. She's one of the most efforlessly capable singers I've ever seen 😲
Every single note she hits in this song is amazing.
The way each note is sung is so carefully touched, so well placed. It makes me feel every single emotion that the lyrics try to pass. Yet, she makes it seem so effortless, like it's second nature to her being. It's like she inhales air and expels musical notes, filled with feelings and emotions and past experiences.
And, somehow, she still IMPROVISES every. single. time she sings the same song.
I seriously can't handle this women's talent right now.
I'm sorry, I'm just too proud of the fact that I am a Tori Kelly fan x)

So hyang has a perfect technique, she support up to BB5, Demi hasn't a good technique at all, she has talent for sure but she strains a lot, hasn't a neutral larynx on his belting range, push a lot of notes and can only support consistently up to C5. I agree for So Hyang but Demi not at all.
K Gamer Technique isn't what makes the artist. Artistry is what makes the artist, it's literally in the name. I'd say the only one close off of that list is Jessie, she can really put a lot behind her voice without making it bland.
Definitely not taking away from the other singers, but Tori is just a supreme artist. They may be fantastic singers, but not quite fantastic artists.
