  • We pray you'll be as blessed by this beautiful music as we have. We don't own any rights to it of course, those belong to the gifted and blessed people who wrote and performed it. All we did was add the lyrics in a simple but, we hope, nice way for people to follow them, and worship God.

    1 Before the throne of God above
    I have a strong and perfect plea;
    a great High Priest whose name is Love,
    who ever lives and pleads for me.
    My name is graven on his hands,
    my name is written on his heart.
    I know that while in heav'n he stands
    no tongue can bid me thence depart,
    no tongue can bid me thence depart.
    2 When Satan tempts me to despair
    and tells me of the guilt within,
    upward I look and see him there
    who made an end of all my sin.
    Because the sinless Savior died,
    my sinful soul is counted free;
    for God the just is satisfied
    to look on him and pardon me,
    to look on him and pardon me.
    3 Behold him there, the risen Lamb,
    my perfect, spotless righteousness,
    the great unchangeable I AM,
    the King of glory and of grace.
    At one with him, I cannot die;
    my soul is purchased by his blood.
    My life is hid with Christ on high,
    with Christ my Savior and my God,
    with Christ my Savior and my God.

    Thank you for this song.It is this particular rendition of this "so Biblical" n so beautifully written song with its "haunting" musical accompaniment n angelic voice of the main singer...that kept me up for long periods of time when my circumstances could have brought me very down.A sister from a very old church gave me a CD with this song in it.It was the best gift I received from this trip to England...together with the multiple ways God provided for our needs on this particular trip.God KNOWS.❤️

    One of my favorite songs, but I challenge anyone to find these words “my name is written on his heart” anywhere in Scripture. It’s a nice poetic thought, but lets not get carried away with nice ideas. This is as close as it gets in all the translations available in Bible Gateway. Exodus 28:29 CEV In this way Aaron will have the names of the twelve tribes of Israel written on his heart each time he enters the holy place, and I will never forget my people. That is “written on Aaron’s heart.” How about, "His word is written on my heart?"

      You have a point, of course, although the poetry itself works for me 😊

      Thanks for asking the question - the clue is in the second line, where the hymn mentions "a great high priest". So, the writer of the hymn has got to the claim that "my name is written on his heart" as follows :-
      1) Aaron, as quoted in your question, was the first high priest of Israel. The book of Hebrews explains in great detail why Jesus is a much better high priest (see chapter 4 verse 14 to chapter 5 verse 4, then chapter 7 verse 22 to chapter 10 verse 23 to get the gist of this) than Aaron, who was described as having the names of the 12 tribes of Israel written on his heart in your quote from Exodus chapter 28 verse 29 (see chapter 28 verse 15 onwards for the description of the physical high-priestly "breastplate of judgment", with the name of each tribe written on a beautiful stone fixed to the breastplace, that resulted in Aaron having the names of the 12 tribes "upon his heart").
      2) The heavenly vision in the book of Revelation shows the importance of the 12 tribes, and that they will be joined by a great multitude from every tribe and nation (see chapter 7 verses 4-17).
      3) The expansion of God's offer to non-Jews is made possible by Jesus' life and death, as explained (for example) in Ephesians chapter 2.
      Therefore, the explanation of Jesus as a 'better' Aaron, and as opening the way for non-Jews to be included, means that it is not just poetical but legitimate to say that Jesus has the names of all believers written on his heart.
      I hope this is helpful.

      I should also have said that the Old Testament system of vestments, rituals, and sacrifices are referred to in Hebrews as patterns, figures, examples and shadows of things to come, namely, Jesus !

      If we are truly saved, our names are written in lambs book of life..... we also need to understand... before we could come into this world.. we were in God's mind.... God is Spirit... we need to learn from Holy Spirit to teach us scriptures
