I love the blue/gray color on the backs, it contrasts well with the red and yellows. I found that golden trout fight harder than other trout their same size. Love it!
Wow!! I am pretty sure I fished on that lake several times as a kid. I love the view!! Thanks for making this channel, I really enjoy watching your technique and the beautiful country of my home state.
@@TenkaraAddict I mean for camping somewhat close. I couldn't do the SUV rving with my father in-law. Can hike in a few miles no problem. I totally understand not wanting to give away exact locations but these are not easy enough to reach.
Nice fish! I can't get into Tenkara. Maybe in a small stream with no easy way to cast. I need more control & distance with a conventional fly fishing rod/reel. All of your videos are very nice productions. I would watch you RVing and say where is this guys fishing rod. In 1 of the videos you said check out my other channel, BINGO! You are very fortunate to live in the area that you do. Keep up the good work your are a natural!
Love your videos and enthusiasm, I would just ask that you remember the time the fish is out of water they can’t breathe. When they swim off slowly after you’ve released them, there’s a good chance they are really stressed. Revive them before release
How long of a hike was it into this lake? Was this a day trip or overnight/multi trip. I'd do either for a location/fish like this. Thanks for sharing.
@@TenkaraAddict You always struggle no matter what net you’re using... Unless the fish is flying through the air and you happen to catch it like a baseball. 🙄
Hi Tristan- I'm an old lady, grew up in the 1960s, lived in Idaho and Calif as a kid and fished with my family every chance we got, which was more often than now that I'm retired, I only have the energy to travel on RUclips. I was wondering if it's legal to catch a golden trout on that lake and keep it because we fished to feed ourselves so I caught so many rainbow trout in Calif I was just wondering if its possible to keep some of the fish because there is nothing better than to wake up at the crack of dawn, catch a trout (we used a rod and reel, 2 bb weights, a #6 gold hook and 2 or 3 red fish eggs as bait. Get the campfire built, or the coleman stove and gut the trout right there, dip it in flour salt n pepper, fry it in crisco oil...oh yummy, it never tasted nearly as good if we brought them home then cooked them.
If there's natural reproduction in that lake, you can expect some golden-bows. Explains the unusual spotting pattern on that 16 incher. We have about 6 high mountain lakes in Alberta with goldens, originally from Wyoming stocks back in the '60s. Alberta record is a 4lb+ golden.
Wyoming stock isn’t natural. All golden trout true golden trout originated from Kern river drainage California. Palomino trout are just rainbows and not actual golden trout.
nice lake and nice fish. unfortunately, those are hybrid as the originals in the Kern river became due to the rainbows getting into the system. true golden trout can only be found in the small location in the sierras in a few creeks in the golden trout national wilderness...
Sorry, I don't share fishing spot names or locations. But I found it using the IDFG Fishing Planner website. You can sort by region and species. Thanks for watching.
I just found your channel(I subscribed), you catch some beautiful fish! I usually fish with spinning and bait casting gear, and I've never fly fished. I hope to try it soon, do you have any tips? Tight Lines man
California Golden trout are hard to get in California because you have to go up to 10,000 feet. Off highway 395 you have to go up by horseback or atv. There's no roads for trucks. I recently was there and I crushed it. No goldens though. Didn't go up high enough. Only caught, bows, browns and brooks.
It’s all about the location. I’ve been to the tributaries if the south fork of the kern twice and have caught 30-40 Golden’s while looking at my campsite. The father u get away, the better it gets.
That is generally true. Where I fished here is outside of their native range. They've been planted here. In their native range, which is a small area, they don't grow to be very large.
@@TenkaraAddict You think that alpine lake was barren prior to Golden Trout being introduced 125-150 yrs ago? They are beautiful fish, I'm hiking up to a lake in Wyoming they inhabit in 2 weeks. Great video as always!
@@Deenihan18 Idaho's golden trout were introduced in the early forties say 1942....43 for all of the war veterans to go hiking after !!! Yes, in some parts of Wyoming they get MASSIVE. Trout and Char in general just seem to do very well and grow much larger on average than the rest of the country here in the intermountain west. I am so grateful to live in this region of the country!! Large wild trout every state you go to! Although lots of bait restrictions for the non lure/fly type angler.
Do you think a catcher's mitt would be as effective as your choice in nets? For heavens sake......attempting to net a fish that is suspended in air above the waters surface, wrangling about, airbourn, and dangling from rod tip...........very awkward to see on film.
all you videos are awesome, but one thing I find difficult - your fish treatment. Some videos yanking the fish airborne to the shore, pulling them on to rocks making them smack themselves like crazy, and out of the water allot longer than necessary. Don't mean to troll, but your videos I show my 12 year old son (he has 53 species and most heritage trout) to show how to fish and how to not treat fish...
Your reaction for your first Golden was way too chill lol. I’ve been dreaming of catching one and would have absolutely freaked the heck out haha.
Lol I was kind of surprised that it happened so fast
I would be yelling so loud that you will hear me no matter where you are.

Ain't nothing better then getting to spot Noone goes to and getting in to some trout man. Thts the life.
The golden trout are just exquisite - so glad you catch and release! The lake is pristine beautiful, too!

Golden trout is beautiful. Amago and yamame Japanese trout is beautiful too.
That is one beautiful lake with beautiful fish! Doesn’t get much better.
What is the noise that sounds like a reel drag when you are landing the fish.
Wow! Beautiful place. You've inspired me to pick up a rod! Thanks for sharing your adventures!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching, Taylor.
Did you see any good camping areas near by that you would recommend? Either designated or not.
How are the roads heading up there? Im guessing thats either Golden Trout or Cathedral. Could a camper trailer make it?

Lol I don't think so. Just random angel choir music I found online.
Beautiful scenery and fish! Just wondering if you do any wild food foraging on your travels?
I eat berries I see along the trail but nothing beyond that. Just this week I had some raspberries I found en route to another mountain lake.
