- Centurion Defence Academy is proud to bring you an interview with Mr. Gopichand Pandey, father of Capt. Manoj Pandey and Sir Shishir Dixit, Chief SSB Mentor Psychology, Founder and Director CEPL. As the entire nation celebrates the Kargil Vijay Diwas on 26 July 2023, we take this opportunity to share the untold story of braveheart and our Hero of Batalik, Capt Manoj Pandey who earned Paramveer Chakra and made the whole nation proud. Capt Manoj Kumar Pandey won the country’s highest gallantry award but unfortunately did not live to receive it in person. After commissioning, his first assignment was in the Kashmir valley and thereafter he was posted to Siachen. Whilst in Siachen he received orders to move to the Batalik sector, where the first intrusions by the Pakistani forces were detected and the Army was preparing for a well-coordinated retaliatory action. Capt Manoj Pandey with his supreme sacrifice not only has set an example of unparalleled bravery but also changed the course of the Kargil war. Capt Manoj Pandey was given the nation’s highest gallantry award Paramveer Chakra for his outstanding courage, leadership, and devotion to duty. Here is a Biography Of Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, PVC (25 June 1975 - 3 July 1999), an Indian Army officer of 1/11 Gorkha Rifles who was posthumously awarded India's highest military honor, the Param Vir Chakra, for his audacious courage and leadership during the Kargil War in 1999. He died during the attack on Jubar Top, Khalubar Hills in Batalik Sector, Kargil. His actions have led to him being referred to as the "Hero of Batalik".
