Since shooting this video we have found out a little more about the 'every round counts' aspect, and it now seems it might be more a case of 'every round can count if you so choose', the idea being that it should make it easier for people to obtain and maintain a handicap even if they don't want to play in competitions. It sounds as though there will be an 'opt in' element to this just as with supplementary scores. We shall await the final detail...
Golf Monthly will you need to declare the round ‘handicap counting’ before you start like the supplementary card system at present - the fudge here lies with the player who strives to improve and discards a bad score (that’s ok) its the player who artificially inflates their playing handicap (ahead of a task open comp) that will be the problem
@@briantreadwell2206 as with supplementary cards right now most clubs require you to enter your name etc BEFORE playing - that card then counts even if you shoot 150 - you cant just go round and after 18 go "oh well ill submit it it was better than i thought" - cant do that in comps and same for supplementary cards - also id expect it to stay similar as it is now where you can have a supplementary card count AS LONG as its with a member of the club - random joes wont count im afraid
Let's all think back to when we started playing comps if we had been given a 54 handicap. I think most of us would have won every time with 3 shots a hole advantage. This change may well encourage new golfers, but it will certainly ostracize those of us who have worked damned hard to get a respectable handicap...
I can talk from Germany where we all started at hcp 54, the competitions in the Club Classed the net Scores in a competition from 0-18 one from 19-36 and one from 37-54 thats kind of fair
The beauty of the current golf handicap system is that it enables a level playing field for competitors of different abilities. Does the new system tighten this up or not ? If I'm going to see net 50's winning competitions then I'll soon be against it.
their will be the odd confusing winner to begin with but should even out over a few months - its the ones who dont play during winter you need to watch for
Bandits incoming, how about they learn to play better more rewarding instead of a fake handicap. If u need anymore than 28 shots dont compete and practice. If someone needs 54 shots extra to make par I dont fancy playing behind them will need to pack a tent
My understanding is that you have to have a recognised handicap to be able to play on other courses? Some other courses will not let anyone play without a handicap certificate, and some courses wont let you on unless you are 18 handicap or less? My understanding also is that you may need to be a registered member of a golf club in order to have a recognised handicap? How will this new system affect non-members who generally play with 3 other 'mates' and make up their own handicaps? So many unanswered questions? I think there will always be 'Bandits' even with this new system? Time will tell I suppose. I play off 15 at the moment and would be truly 'gutted' if I played to my handicap but the comp was won with a silly score by a hacker off 54! Ho Hum.
Handicap to play other courses is individual to the courses - Recognised hcp yes must be a member of a club (costs to have an actual hcp with fees) - Keep making up your handicaps and enjoy your golf - hope that helps
Perfectly understandable system. Known about it for some time. As a scratch golfer who's been away from the game for a year or two, I'm very much looking forward to the new system.
The issue I have in the U.S. is golfers who don't report all of their scores or don't report correct scores, which can easily happen because scores for casual rounds are generally reported directly by the golfer into the handicap system computer.
I play a very hilly course with undulating fairways. When the wind blows its tough. Its oner 1000ft above sea level. I'm guessing it will be graded higher in difficulty to a flat course
I play in France Where 54 handicap has been used for years. All competitions consist of two competitions within one ie one for gross score and one for net. Works well.
The every score counts is really interesting for golfers who want to play a lot of golf. Restrictions of maybe 2-3 medals per month at clubs juring playing season is a pain in the ass. Most golfers enjoy and play their best golf whilst relaxed on the course with friends not worrying about having a scorecard in their pocket trying too hard to play well. Will be very keen to see how this system pans out for myself who had 40+ competition cards in last season. 🤔⛳️
Committees will still be allowed to put a max handicap on competitions. Big comps at my club caps handicaps at 20. Everyone can play but if you’re 21 and over then you simply play off 20.
any chance of an update?? lots to find out - for instance what happens if a player has joined a club this year but does not get 20 rounds in by the time the system is introduced? say the golfer only get 10 rounds in - how will his handicap be calculated then or wont the golfer have a handicap until they complete 20 rounds?
The eight from 20 is used once you have posted 20 scores. If you have just joined a club for the first time you only need to submit three 18 hole rounds, or indeed, six nine hole rounds to be given your Handicap Index. I do agree that any system can be manipulated. Join a club, deliberately play crap for a year, get a handicap of 34, then go round in 79 for a net 45. 😯. I don't know why anyone would want to do that though.

Just a comment , I’ve just started playing but only play on a 9 hole course...would I have to play 2 nines on the same day or could they work out some handicap for 9 holes ?
If they do it like the do now in the USA, the first 9 hole score you post will be held in waiting. When the next 9 hole score is posted (whether the same day or days/weeks later), it will be matched with the pending 9 hole score to form an 18 hole score and will start being used in handicap index calculation. Combining 9 hole scores is done by computing a "differential" value, which normalizes the differences between the two 9 hole course ratings.
I like it - makes every round so much more focused if you play to improve your handicap. Re the ‘bandit’ approach - categories in clubs address this as the better players will want to compete in the lower handicap divisions rather than steal the glory at 20+ (open comps may take a similar approach)
I very much doubt that this will happen at my club from what I know of the management they will not like the extra workload so all competitions will be bundled into the same category

What a crock of shit! Open to so much abuse this system, i work hard to be the lowest handicap i can be but others will look at it as an easy way to win comps. Put 20 crap scores in targeting a big comp and then boom be 10 or more under and win comp. Its the worst thing ive ever seen in golf
Under this new system you cannot rise more than five strokes in any twelve month period.
Ok if a 54 handicapper shoots 100 of the stick that will give him a net 46 he should lose 20 strokes but I vet he doesn't how will that be fair to a 10 handicap not good but the 54 handicap will win everything don't like it
Jeez this is dumb. Not only is it more confusing but it reminds me of participation trophies. Suck at golf? It's ok, we will pad you to make it feel better. How about we just count your strokes and if you suck, well, you just suck. Get better. This is as bad a scoring antlers on a deer. I've seen little pee-wee deer score higher than monsters because of asymmetrical deductions for a net score... If it existed, count it!
where is the math?
According to this guy 'the less skilled golfer typically finds harder golf courses harder than good golfers find hard golf courses'. Lol no shit Sherlock
Y the fuck are they changing it
So the world has one system and not the current six.
Jesus Christ golfers like to whine...!
...and most are dumb as fuck when it comes to handicaps and rules. They don't take the time to try to understand the facts; they just spout bullshit opinions someone else put in their tiny brains.
What a load of tosh ,no information or answers jst somebody talking
