That course doesn't look bad at all - quite good in fact. Imagine it would be terrific in the summer. Just shows you the dangers of Google reviews can do to businesses.
It may be a terrible analogy but how come a game with a lot of bad reviews, despise empty, one line good reviews didn't change a company mind or shut it down?
There's a local hacker 9 hole course where it's a constant struggle to find the damn ball in half of the fairways. Trash that. I'm an awful golfer and don't need a perfect course but I would like to be able to find my damn ball on the off chance I hit it on the fairway lol
I used to play a course the the Philippines we called “The Goat Track”. Not uncommon to have a family having a picnic on a blanket on the tee box. Goats everywhere to keep the grass trimmed, kids having baths in the water hazards, karaoke in the shack on the 7th hole. It was sooooo fun
J Red my thoughts exactly! And at least cow pasture courses have grass, you should see some of the crap courses I’ve played. Two of the worst are near where I live.
No doubt. I'm not saying where I live but there is only 1 18 hole course within a 50 mile round trip and the back nine of it is unplayable, but at least the practice areas are good. The 1 other course is a 9 hole course that the gophers have abandoned because the ground is so hard. Yet I continue.
This is the problem with some golfers(all the gear no idea) they want Royal Troon standards for £20 a round support local courses so they can reinvest the money.
I loved the course when I was a member there a few years ago. Very quiet in the week, but busy every weekend. Possible the best value for money membership in Oxfordshire.
Beautiful course and setting, can’t understand why anyone would give it a one star rating, I can only think they had a bad round, which is not the fault of the course.
This is one of my local courses and I've played it a few dozen times. It's a shame you only showed the first 4 holes because they are the least interesting holes on the course. This course is really not that bad and some of the holes are genuinely stunning. It gets slated unfairly and it had a bad reputation locally because it once cost twice or even three times what you paid in the video. You also HAVE to play it with a buggy because there are some very long gaps between holes and some of those walks are up steep hills. By the time you trudge up the hill to the 15th tee box you are spent if you've walked the course. Once you added a buggy to the cost of the round, it was about £100 per person which is too much. The 18th hole is quirky. It's dead straight with trees on either side and you play up towards the old Estate House which is an amazing view, even if you have seen it 20 times before. Heythrop Park is a large conference centre and hotel and they turned the old 9 hole course into 18 holes about 15 years ago. This must have cost a packet to do but they have not invested much in the course since so it can look a little tatty at times. I definitely recommend playing there if it's £35 and it is rarely busy. The staff are nice but we sometimes got the 'hard sell' to join up from the club pro whilst having a drink after each round and I suspect that their membership numbers are really low because it was not cheap to join and the place is a little bit soulless without a proper clubhouse etc. FYI, the planes you spotted are from the airfield at Enstone which is a few miles away, not Oxford Airport. It's also really close to the trendy hangout, Soho Farmhouse, so you might bump into David Beckham who lives next door and has been seen playing golf at Heythrop on a few occasions (apparently).
Worst course I ever played on was “Houston Hills”. It was located in Houston, Texas, USA. It was build on a landfill. Trash, cans, and plastic was percolating out of the ground. Fairways were scrub grass and weeds. The hazard you had to carry on a par 3 was a toxic chemicals swamp. If there was no breeze the smells were memorable. It is no longer.
I have been on courses that had hard tee boxes and you would break tees trying to get them in the ground. The fairways were nearly no grass and the greens were so fast you were afraid to break wind thinking it would make the ball move. This course looks immaculate in comparison!
This course doesn't look too shabby and is close enough for me to visit, I'm still a new comer to the game so I'm not interested in fairways as I rarely go on them!! ... and I believe the bird was a red kite, they're massive and all over this area. Another great video, its great to see you taking your time and playing some great golf. Keep it up gents.
I've played there several times and can't understand the poor reviews. It's a great course and always been in good condition when I've played. Some really great holes!!
Hi Steve, I have played this course numerous times as well and agree that it's a great course and has always been in good or great condition when I have played it... it has been a touch wet in places in winter mind! I will say the food in the clubhouse was not the best and bit overpriced.... not sure if it would be any better venturing into the main hotel building?
It had an average of 3 1/2 stars, the 1 star was a specific review google highlighted because it contained your search "worst golf course in the uk"...
I think a course is as good as it's ground staff. We always thought our course was great until the head groundsman retired and the new one has made us realise he was just doing the bare minimum.
My wife’s parents used to live in Papua New Guinea; the locals took issue with the golf course being built on their land and used to do their “business” in the holes. 6ft gimmes were advised!
I played this earlier this year - £20 for the round midweek. Cracking course with some real quality holes. Greens were immaculate. It's on top 100 courses as a 'hidden gem'. Worth playing before they get recognised and put the prices up. Hopefully you'll show us some of the later holes.
First video of yours I’ve watched and I gotta say I love your style. The way you just keep it cool talking away and not make it look like some sort of music video makes all the difference. Feels like I’m there. Seem like a laugh too! Will be watching much more!
This is the second time this course has cropped up as worst course in uk. I’ve played a few times and always found it absolutely brilliant. Some great holes, was always in great nick. Definitely worth the hour travel from my house. ⛳️
This golf course is ABSOLUTELY amazing, compared to my home course. I live on a small island in Denmark, where two of the greens have ACTUAL tractor tires marks in them, going straight across the entire greens! The rough is literally almost up to my knees...and if your ball ends in it, you have less than a 50% chance of ever finding it. I'd LOVE a home course like that one!
I cannot tell you how great it is to see a youtuber that plays a round similar to the rest of us. Birdie a hole then immediately snap hook the drive on the very next hole!! Love the hate/love with the putter. New sub here! Love it.
Yes Red Kite or sometimes red tailed kite... distinctive call. Got a bunch of them around me (7 miles west of Stratford upon Avon) which we regularly hear and sometimes see when walking neighbours dogs in the local woods. That course looked fine to me.. I think "Tree Wood" or "Woody the Woodpecker" is a fine name for it - especially if you snap hook it like that driver shot
I also played in Oxfordshire a couple of weeks ago (Hadden Hill near Didcot), and there were loads of kites about over there. The way I played on the day, they should have been vultures.👍
@@whackablemole Weather was pretty grotty on the day, but course in great nick. I really enjoyed it, some nice holes that you can play a few ways. Managed to get lost after the 8th hole, the tiny par 3 with the large mound left and tree right. It reminded me of Basildon (which is a nice track too)
At least that course has grass! Here in the San Diego area, we're in constant drought conditions so if the course doesn't have access to water, we play on dirt. The worst course I've played here is Goat Hill about 8 years ago. They've fixed it up now, thanks to John Ashworth, who brought it back from the dead. I've lost golf balls in massive gopher holes that you don't want to put your arm in for fear of rattlesnakes. The golf carts were death traps because they didn't have brakes. even still, I loved playing there because it is such a fun layout. I've fallen in love with many of these courses (Castle Creek, Eagle Crest, Oceanside Municipal) because they're still fun. You just have to move your ball to a patch of grass to hit it. They're usually dirt cheap too. I've thought about submitting the idea that the PGA should have one tournament a year that is played on these types of courses, the kind of courses that us working people play on. That would be a great way to grow the game. Most of us will never get to play Augusta National. Golf shouldn't be an elitist sport that only rich people play. You can have as much fun playing at your local muni course.
That doesn’t look bad at all!!! That’s like an average municipal in SoCal. The Newport golf course here is literally ALL DIRT besides the greens. Only reason the Tee Box isn’t dirt is because it’s a mat. Seriously one the worst courses and it’s not even nearly the worst rated.
The Old River Course in Tracy, CA, USA. I recall losing my ball in the middle of the fairway (unmowed), and also putting across dead greens. The hilarious part was driving the cart through the back 9 that had recently been retired and left to nature and all the tee markers were still in the tee boxes, and the pins were still standing on the greens.
Back in the eighties and nineties Heythrop used to be the training college for NatWest bank. There was a bit of a course there then. They also had the winter quarters for one of the big circuses nearby as you could occasionally hear the trumpet of an elephant when out for a stroll. Bloody long walk down the drive to the nearest pub though.
Good on you for doing this, will help the clubs reputation no doubt. The few people who have a bad time shout so much louder than the hundreds who enjoyed it! Although you never explained the green ball..? 😂
One wonders about the motivation of some people giving terrible ratings to facilities like golf courses. Heythrop has always looked nice to me, fancy it one day.
This is no where near as bad as a local course I play at. The course is literally never watered so when you try and take even the smallest divot with your shot your club head literally stops in the ground. Not to mention that one of the par 5s isn't even marked and is just two par threes put together. Some holes have cups the size of grapefruits for some reason and the greens are as bumpy as the Tibetan mountain range. My ball jumped 2 inches off the ground a couple times when I was putting.
I played a nine hole course in Michigan it was pastureland and they called it a Golf course . It was 5 minutes from the house, it was a real challenge. It was a good day out with the boys. It was sold and no longer a Golf course. Enjoyed the video.
The bird at 13:00 is a Red Kite. They were nearly hunted into extinction, but there was a re-introduction project started not far away from there towards High Wycombe and now 30 years later they are very common around here. Lovely to watch.
I’m Manc based and have played many courses local to me and further afield, and, hand on heart, I can’t say I have played a course where I have thought to myself I’m never going back there. They all do their best, especially in difficult times.
Great comment, I lived in Preston for 5 years and played many course in the NW, mostly municipals, and have many happy memories. Even the rougher ones, you remember the day and the bants more than the course.
Looks fine to me. Some people are way too critical, especially when their abilities don't warrant them giving an opinion to begin with. You did say it was under new management, maybe they got a handle on it and fixed the problems. Great video.... you play like me! LoL . Cheers from Texas! Call the 3 wood "Ginty"
Worse course ever played, Sharjah in United Arab Emirates, all sand and had to take a piece of Astro Turf with you and place your ball on top before each shot, also the greens were Browns (oiled sand) and you had to drag a heavy mat over it after you played to take the lines out of the surface :-)
Oiled sands is pretty much the only courses I play, we don’t need Astro turf, I’m in Australia, we use a rake with a flat side to smooth out the sand to putt on, a totally different game but still just as much fun
I would dispute this! I was a member for 4 years until I retired last year and returned to UK. It was the oldest club in the Emirates...a great test of golf with some excellent holes...of course different from a classical grass course but brilliant fun and the best craic in the clubhouse with cheapest beer in the UAE!🍺🍺🍺⛳⛳⛳👍👍👍
Honestly this looks beautiful. I have play on a course where in winter the fairways are like the cart paths and putting on the greens is as bad as putting in ur yard
Looks lovely that course. Cheap aswel id say.theres a course near me in Nottinghamshire called hollinwell, never played there as its about £100 to play and with with my handicap I wouldnt dare pay that much..if you havnt been then please look up some clubs including hollinwell in Nottinghamshire. Would love to see you put a few videos up from down my way..theres a few. Rufford/ brierley forest/ springwater/ oakmere/ramsdale and lots more.
Course looked good from what you’ve shown I’m finding some of the municipals are currently the courses that are struggling but that’s probably down to a lack of funds in the present climate
The Ranch in San Jose, Ca. It was unreal how bad of a golf course that was. another golf course was a one where the longest hitter I ever played with couldn't hit the fairways from the white tees.
im the same. if you can putt on the green without it bouncing all over the place then its fine. everything else can be glossed over if you think your out for a walk with your mates playing golf. @@GolfMates
Most UK courses are not really built for mass cart use. I’d guess pricing is to dissuade usage and encourage walking or trolley usage. Also that price would be a non-members price.
I’m not sure why some people “pile on” with negative comments. But that course looks very pretty. I often play courses that are lined by back yards, so the countryside setting is quite appealing. I think you should continue with your “Tour of the Worst”. You might find some real stinkers! But you might also find some more hidden gems!
I played here in 2013 and I loved it. It’s dead quiet because it’s just an extortionate place to go in general. It is a resort course, so membership is low. The hotel is and spa are lovely, but very expensive. It’s former sister course is Beadlow Manor now known as Cainhoe Wood in Bedfordshire. That place is god awful. There was mutiny among Members as the course was unplayable at times, greens were dying and it was constantly sodden. Maybe try there
You should try Barra golf course on the Isle of Barra in the Outer Hebrides. It has an honesty box in a shed, with a selection of old clubs, for those who don’t have their clubs with them. Must be one of the best for outstanding views and for that reason I enjoyed playing it, but because of the sheep and cattle, the greens are surrounded by fencing, the fairways are non-existent and my opening tee shot landed smack in the middle of a cowpat. It is a real challenge and heaven knows how difficult it would be if the frequent Atlantic winds blow in. Anyway it is a 9 hole course, though for the life of me, I could not find the Tee for, I think, the 6th hole and I gave up looking. The Isle of Barra by the way is stunningly beautiful, with some incredible beaches.
Played a few times back in June. Decent course, but it was in need of some freshening up around the fringes and bunkers (and the cart paths were suspension killers). Looks like they've done some work correcting it. Not the best I've played but a million miles away from being the worst!!
I've not watched this yet, but Heythrop Park is near my works, it's well decent! Or was when I played last! I mean, you could do with a buggy like as its a proper trek!
@@GolfMates I've walked it every time I've played, there's some proper big gaps between green and tee on some holes 🤣🤣🤣 I love the hole over the water, near the bridge though. The 6th I think?
Your comment about Ingol made me laugh. The course was in the middle of a housing estate. I once shanked a tee shot on a par 3, it bounced on a road before landing on a bungalows roof 😂😂
I learned to play there.... Explains everything. I'm in the process of getting my 11 year old step son playing, and we've been on the par 3 course six times. It gets worse every time we go 😂
Idk if this is bad plz tell me but I play in balmoral golf club in belfast ni and on the 6th you are like standing in a mound dip and I always tee off bad on that hole please let me know if that's bad course when it does that
Just picking up golf now and loving your videos! Got myself a set of Titleist DCI Oversize + Gold irons as a starter, can't wait to go on an actual golf course once I'm decent at the driving range :)
I played here with my boss in the summer! Long walks between holes, pro shop ran out of drinks (it was 32 degrees) & was offered to use the outside tap to top up a water bottle. I thought the greens were actually ok in fairness but the rest of the course needed attention. I wouldn’t rush back here to play again myself although they might have struggled to manage the course with COVID-19 & then were behind on maintenance.
Hi Liam your entertainment value a lot better recently , think things started to go abit stail about 15 months ago when most videos just seemed like a slagging match of insults. That doesn't look bad at all. I've played courses where you had to factor the side hill lie of the tee box into your shot.
That is every course in the U.S
Yeah bro thats all the affordable public courses in ohio haha
That describes my course. Hell when I play on a flat tee box it throws me off lol
@Benghali In Platforms mines kind of like a links course hybrid and one of the tee boxes on a par three I describe as hitting on an upside down bowl.
You have to shape the ball into the hill to control it.

First time watching! Pretty entertaining! Definitely thinking of subscribing!
Welcome aboard!
That course honestly looks nice, it’s like Augusta compared to some courses I’ve played.
Liam: Googles worst golf course in UK
Makes birdie on the par 3
Liam: Yeah, there's nothing wrong with this course :)
Remember the Links at Victoria? Not one blade of grass.
@@KevinHoekman ohhh yeahhh, I’m scarred for life after doing a video on it hahaha. Still haunts my dreams hahaha.
@@ShawnyBGolf
I think it was the worst of the worst courses in So Cal.
@@KevinHoekman hahaha I think it’s the worst of the worst in the world. Idk how one could beat it, unless the greens are dirt too I guess.
Absolutely i forgot lol
LOL. I was wondering the same. I figuree he used a green ball because of reviews describing the course condition....meaning hard to find your ball.
One wonders about the motivation of some people giving terrible ratings to facilities like golf courses. Heythrop has always looked nice to me, fancy it one day.
Make sure you do... Such a good layout
My 3 wood is called "WTF why did I bring that club " You though, seem to be doing OK. Call it Lucky Strike.because you smoke it when you hit it.
Being from middle America I have no idea what you are saying half the time, but with that stated I really enjoyed this video. Thumbs up!
“Get down boy” 😂😂 love this guy
"...Get down boy!!!" lol all the way from The States. Great review!
Keyboard warriors strike again. Looks crisp and clean to me.
it was mostly!
That looks 10x better than the worst I’ve played. The worst had a tee box that had so many tree roots I had to find another place to tee off.
I’m Manc based and have played many courses local to me and further afield, and, hand on heart, I can’t say I have played a course where I have thought to myself I’m never going back there. They all do their best, especially in difficult times.
Altrincham!!
Did you ever play boysnope?? Quality course now just an overgrown waste of space.
Great comment, I lived in Preston for 5 years and played many course in the NW, mostly municipals, and have many happy memories. Even the rougher ones, you remember the day and the bants more than the course.
Looks good to me was expecting a field with a stick in it by the title ⛳️ great vlog as normal chaps 🏌️♂️
Me to
dude, you have the most pleasant approach to golf. I think my score would improve just playing a round with you. keep on keeping on brother man!
Absolutely great track
I love how happy Liam is
Just brilliant 👌
Thank you!!
Worse course ever played, Sharjah in United Arab Emirates, all sand and had to take a piece of Astro Turf with you and place your ball on top before each shot, also the greens were Browns (oiled sand) and you had to drag a heavy mat over it after you played to take the lines out of the surface :-)
cant play on astro
Oiled sands is pretty much the only courses I play, we don’t need Astro turf, I’m in Australia, we use a rake with a flat side to smooth out the sand to putt on, a totally different game but still just as much fun
I've played there, it was shocking tbh. But you should have had a caddy. I think he charged us 10 dirhams (£1.60 ish) we tipped him more 😂
Played one of those course in Oman, it was great fun.
As long as I can find my ball in the fairway, I usually like a course.
02:00 When the wife finally doesn’t use the “I have a headache” excuse.
I call my 3 wood FFS because that's what I say when I've hit it.🤣
All my clubs are called FFS then 🤣
Unironically that's what I call my 3 hybrid 😂😂
Course looked good from what you’ve shown I’m finding some of the municipals are currently the courses that are struggling but that’s probably down to a lack of funds in the present climate
The Ranch in San Jose, Ca. It was unreal how bad of a golf course that was. another golf course was a one where the longest hitter I ever played with couldn't hit the fairways from the white tees.
This is the first video I've seen on your channel and this was awesome, you sir, are a gem
Thank you
To be honest i don't really care what the course is like as long as I'm out playing. Great video guys and congratulations on the new house Joe.
Absolutely great point Vince
im the same. if you can putt on the green without it bouncing all over the place then its fine. everything else can be glossed over if you think your out for a walk with your mates playing golf. @@GolfMates
Did Liam have an extra shot of coffee in his latte.
Idk what that translates to dollars, but 30 pounds for a cart rental sounds INSANE
That's $41.72 in the US. Yeah F that.
Great little video i have same dilemma of which putter works best for me. Friend said make sure you’re using the same balls every time keep going pal.
I laugh every time you mumble on with your back turned.
If that’s a 1 star course in England, then a 3 star course must be Augusta National.
3 wood - Miss Direction
I played here in 2013 and I loved it. It’s dead quiet because it’s just an extortionate place to go in general. It is a resort course, so membership is low.
The hotel is and spa are lovely, but very expensive. It’s former sister course is Beadlow Manor now known as Cainhoe Wood in Bedfordshire. That place is god awful. There was mutiny among
Members as the course was unplayable at times, greens were dying and it was constantly sodden.
Absolutely not the worst
"Don't want to hit Joe in the ghoulies." hahahaaha
It's actually spelt "goolies".
I've not watched this yet, but Heythrop Park is near my works, it's well decent! Or was when I played last!
I mean, you could do with a buggy like as its a proper trek!
its a long way round isnt it!
@@GolfMates I've walked it every time I've played, there's some proper big gaps between green and tee on some holes 🤣🤣🤣
I love the hole over the water, near the bridge though. The 6th I think?
Your comment about Ingol made me laugh. The course was in the middle of a housing estate. I once shanked a tee shot on a par 3, it bounced on a road before landing on a bungalows roof 😂😂
I've never watched your videos before but the "get down boy" proper gave me a giggle
Boom 💥
Course doesn't look bad at all.
Is the 3 Wood an Orka? Then, call it "Shamu."
I'll drink to that. But then, I don't need much of an excuse ...
Worse golf course in the UK 🇬🇧 is ... Dunton Hill golf course in Essex, DO NOT PLAY ! ....so bad it will put you off golf forever!!
Ahhhhh the local fave 👌🏻😂
I learned to play there.... Explains everything. I'm in the process of getting my 11 year old step son playing, and we've been on the par 3 course six times. It gets worse every time we go 😂
you should play caprington in kilmarnock scotland
Idk if this is bad plz tell me but I play in balmoral golf club in belfast ni and on the 6th you are like standing in a mound dip and I always tee off bad on that hole please let me know if that's bad course when it does that
Just picking up golf now and loving your videos!
Got myself a set of Titleist DCI Oversize + Gold irons as a starter, can't wait to go on an actual golf course once I'm decent at the driving range :)
*Bogeys the first*
*Birdies the second*
"One under!!"
Considering he made it clear that he was playing a 3 hole round starting from the second trying to go level
How can you go from “What type of bird is this ?” to Rab C Nesbitt in the space of half a hole ???🤣🤣🤣
thats just me lol
Can’t believe you came here Liam, you will have driven past my house to get there, I live 3 minutes away.
Absolutely we came down played and did one
First time watching you, the humour makes the video, bloody hilarious, it’s when you are waking away from the camera🤣🤣
Worst course I’ve ever played was Bays Mountain Golf Course in Seymour, Tennessee, USA
Haha, didnt even know it was still open. Yes, it is a goat ranch!
Wow, I've played that course many a time growing up and yes it is a goat farm.
That bird looked like a red kite!
My worst course is Roseberry in Chester le street
Still not as bad as Throston ha
tonyrobbo1984 throston has got to be up there!! 🤣🤣🤣
Agreed Darren. Played there a few months back. Looked like there'd been a hosepipe ban since 2015.
Ha,10 minutes from me, not great but have you played Knotty Hill in Sedgefield, you might change your mind.
Yes David I have think Sedgefield is better tho am a member there
I don't usually watch golf. but I really like this guy. Good job mate!
Hi Liam your entertainment value a lot better recently , think things started to go abit stail about 15 months ago when most videos just seemed like a slagging match of insults. Can you ever imagine a soap opera that each episode had a happy ending imagine the breath of fresh air it would be instead of the normal sorrow and bad feeling they end up with. Your a bright lad sure you dent need advice from me keep up the good work best of luck to you and the gang old fruitys
New to this channel, absolute loved this 😂. Brilliant 👏
