You are very kind!!! Thank you for being so nice! It's our pleasure to make these tutorials for you! :)
some youtubers that do cakes they just show us the finished product. You show us how to do it ourselves. Thanks!!
Wow! That is awesome! And so considerate of you to mention the safety concern for people with kids. Thank you both for sharing your talents.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it! God bless you! :)
Thank you Jessica! You are very kind! I'm so happy you like the idea! I hope it increases the beauty of your work! God bless you and prosper your business! :)
There are some things you can steam right away such as these balloons or ball borders because they're not that big and don't have parts protruding out of them. If you want to steam toppers such as animal figures or other 3D figures, I would recommend waiting until they're almost completely dry so that the steam doesn't soften them up and add to your drying time. :)
You're very welcome! So happy you liked the tute! :)
You are very welcome and thank YOU! Glad you like the technique! It works perfectly for removing powdered sugar and cornstarch stains as well. :) Very quick and easy method. :)
Hi! Gumpaste always wants to naturally crack and wrinkle. It's just a matter of working it furiously in your hands and putting elbow grease into it as you work it in your hands to get rid of the cracks and wrinkles. :)
Love it I have been using the kettle for years. This is much easier
Thank you so much Carol! Glad you enjoyed the video. :) Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing! I appreciate the tips you give - they may seem simple to you, but they never occurred to me, so I think they're (you're) brilliant!
always love your tutorials. God bless you for sharing.
Thank you so much! God bless you! :)
I had purchased a small steamer to practice but I've been doubtful about it. Thank you so very much for this tutorial it is so easy can't wait to use on my cakes and gumpaste decorations.
That's wonderful! Have fun steaming your cakes and decorations! God bless! :)
Thank you! Very kind of you! That's cool! Hope you enjoy using it! :)
You are VERY welcome! Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Hi! For decorations that aren't on skewers, we make sure to use a plastic glove (so you don't burn your hands) and you can hold it up in front of the steam or leave it laying flat on a foam or whatever and just let the steam hit it. You'll need to hold the steamer in your hand for that. Not very tricky at all, just need to be careful you don't burn yourself. :)
It's our pleasure Mayra! :) Thank you!
So simple but so effective I love this look. Thanks for sharing Perth WA
Thank you! :)
I also have a mini steamer, looks alot like yours but a different brand, have only used it on my flowers, will definitely be trying it out on my toppers and so on, thanks for the tutorial.
This video has been amazingly helpful. I have been trying to figure out how to do this for a long time and I new adding piping gel wasn't the way. Thank you both!
+My Treats You're very welcome! :)
Thanks Crafty Kraut! :) You can steam them now if you'd like. There really is not time frame. :) You're SO SWEET! So glad you like the videos! :)
You're welcome. Usually when we have toppers on foam, the "back" or "bottom" of them that won't be seen on the cake are never steamed. But, if your topper will be seen from all angles, then you can steam then let it dry and then move it and steam again.
We only make gumpaste decorations but we also steam our fondant cakes so I'm sure you can steam anything made with fondant as well. :)
I hold the steamer as close as possible to the top and using a cardboard cake board I block the steam and force it downward. Works well. :)
Thanks Terika! The ribbon racks and everything else you see in the background was handmade by my Father. :)
We appreciate you Michelle! Thank you! :)
You're very welcome Katherine! Thank you! :)
You are very welcome! :)
I got my steamer..can't wait to use it ...thanks
That's awesome! :)
Hi Jen! We bought ours at Bed Bath & Beyond but several people have been able to find it on Amazon as well. :)
Fantastic. Thanks for sharing. Love to try iron fondant cakes.
Gracias Irene! No te preocupes por los guantes. El calor no es tanto asi que te quemes tan feo que se derrite el latex. No hay ningun problema. :)
I love you 2. Thanks so much for the tutorials. they help me tremendously
+MrTonemontana Thank you so much! :)
Hi Nona! You are VERY welcome. The gumpaste we make is basically fondant mixed with tylose. That's what gumpaste is. So to answer your questions, YES, it is okay. :)
That steamer is awesome! It's by Joy Mangano, available at Target and HSN as well as BBB. It steams clothes great too. Forget an iron.
Thank you D'maris!!! God bless you too! :)
Thank you so much! That's very encouraging! Thank you for your kindness! Hugs to you in London! :)
I bought myself a steamer today! So excited to use it=D
That's awesome Jackie! Have fun! :)
HI Andrea! Thank you so much! Yes, this little steamer is heaven sent. My hubby is addicted to it. LOL. I hope you've been well and your beautiful family too! God bless! :)
De nada! Es nuestro placer. :) Gracias! :)
You can steam them before like we do or you can also just steam them and the entire cake once decorated. It's up to your personal preference. :) We make both fondant and buttercream cakes. :)
Thank you and you're very welcome! :)
Thank you both for sharing your tips!!
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL JOB, THE COLORS LOOK AMAZING STEAMED!!!!!!!!! QUESTION With the Metallic colors, you paint/dust then steam Right????? lol ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS TECHNIQUE!!!!!!!!!!!!! ♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥
+Cherokee Miller Thanks Cherokee! Yes, dust first, then steam. :)
Hi Jessica, You can use it on any paste material. :)
We use this very same steamer to steam our cakes. :)
Wow..this is awesome! Definitely will try ..
Hi Wanda! Arnie says Hi! LOL! Hmmmm..... How much shortening are you using on your hands when sculpting? Sounds like you might be using a little too much and it's not letting the gumpaste absorb anything. Make sure you are using gumpaste and not fondant. Try using no shortening. Glad you like our tutorials! Thank you! :)
Hola Mariela, De nada. Es nuestro placer. Si, el vapor se puede usar en cualquier tipo de fondant. Dios la bendiga! :)
I LOOOOOOVE my steamer!! Best purchase ever! :)
That's awesome Ana! :)
Hi Yaneri! You can steam at any time. It really doesn't make any difference. :)
Great tutorial Laura (& Arnie)! I've used this method with a regular kettle before but your little streamer there looks so easy to use. Hope you & Arnie have been great! Arnie sounds cute by the way ; ) Greetings from Oz!
Hi Terry, Not at all. The steaming technique is just to make the color shine. It has no effect on color whatsoever. Do you by chance have the sun hitting your toppers? I can't really think of any other reason of why the color might be fading. I don't know how MMF gumpaste behaves because I've never used it. I would highly recommend trying our how to make gumpaste tutorial. This gumpaste behaves very well and we've never had any trouble with color fading. You might like it. :)
Thanks Rosie. All of our decorations are sculpted in gumpaste. We've created a tutorial on how to make these balloons. You can find it on our channel. :)
Thank you so much! We appreciate you. :)
Super cool...thanks. I loved it
When we sculpt cake decorations or toppers we never use sugar powder or cornstarch. If anything maybe the tiniest amount of shortening.
Hola Mayinala! Las bolas las detenemos en las manos. No usamos palitos. :)
Hi Maria. Probably because you used fondant and not gumpaste and also because you didn't use the steamer...? Why don't you buy one? You can get it at Bed, Bath, & Beyond for like $19. :)
Guys it Is at bed bath and beyond like Arnie says and it's for $19.99 and if you print the 20% off coupon you can get it even cheaper. Thank you Laura and Arnie you guys are awesome:0)
Thanks Michael! You can also steam your cake with this steamer. :)
Hi laura. Can you tell me how you get your gumpaste not to crack? It looks so smooth. Thank you.
can you show how you send out your Toppers? would like an idea as far as packaging...thank you...love your tutorials..
Please check out our tutorial on how to safely wrap and package cake toppers. :)
Hi Laura and Arnie... :) I'm from the Philippines and just had my vacay in LA.. I bought this steamer cause I was really stunned with the way it did on a dull gumpaste turned into a shiny decor.. :) just want to ask if I can use this to steam a whole cake and make it shine? Say for example a 3-5 tiered cake...? :) tnx.. :)
Thank you! We just roll them in our hands. :)
Just bought my first steamer. Can't wait to do this! Have you tried using alcohol? Someone had said they use alcohol because it dried faster.
Have fun using your steamer! Never tried alcohol. Let me know how it goes and tastes. :)
Hi Laura & the Steaming Jedi. Lol!! I have tried this method on my gumpaste balloons & other decorations & after 2 days, the balloons look as if I never steamed them. I've also tried brushing vodka on them, but they just suck everything up. I have no ideas as to why it doesn't work for me. I'm using the same steamer. Do you have any ideas as to why it might not be working for me? You have wonderful, insightful, & very informative tutorials. Thank you so much for sharing with us all.
Thank you VERY much! :)
Y gracias por compartir esos trucos son muy utiles gracias
Thank you very much for the tip!!!!!!!!!
Happy to help! Thanks for watching! :)
Never tried it. Let me know if it works. You got my curiosity going now. LOL. :)
Hi! Thank you for sharing this wonderful technique! I was wondering if I could also use it to remove any corn starch or icing sugar stains left behind on my cake once I have covered it. Is this possible or how would you do such a thing? Thank you again for everything you do and everything you teach us!
De nada Maya! :)
This is awesome. Please share where I can buy thick number cutters like this number 2.
+Roxanne Richardson , you can check out the toy section where they put playdoh or modeling clay. Or, Michael's or Joann where the kids hobby aisles are. Usually comes with alphabete and numbers. I am not sure you can find that big but I have seen some big cutters there
Great video!! Thank you!! I made some gum paste flowers a few weeks ago for a wedding cake, could I still steam them now or does that have to be done right after painting/coloring the flowers/toppers? Love your videos!!
Hi Laura,
I love the way you steam your gumpaste decoration, my question is , how to steam small flower leaves and tiny objects if they are put on a flat surface , how can I steam it this way ? is the steamer going to spill ? Thank you.
Hi Tay! Thank you. You can just pick them up with you hand and steam them before adding to your cake. Definitely do not tip your steamer downward as it will begin to spit out water. I hope that helps. :)
Great tutorial! Thank you.
Thank you! :)
Thanks for sharing. You guys always make informative videos. My question is not about the steamer. Tell me about your ribbon racks in the back ground. Did you make or purchase them?
hey question...after steaming a cake, how long do i have to wait before putting the cake in the fridge?
elena raposo hi! I would recommend only steaming the cake after you’ve taken it out of the fridge for the last time and before you deliver. If you absolutely have to steam before before and you want to put it back in the fridge make sure you let it dry completely before you do so.
this is awesome you guys are great!
thank u so much for this tutorial my question is after steaming how long does the cake remain shinny?
thanks
Its awesome..Thanks for the tutorial...How do i get my fondant cake shine and steamed?
Hi Laura, thanks for all your tutorials... You said to use gumpaste... Is it ok tu use fondant with tylose and then use the steamer? Thanks again....
Should we wait til the gumpaste hardens to steam it or just after sculpting? Thanks in advance!
Thanks for the video this helped a hole lot
great video, thank you both :) God bless you.
How do u make the ball borders? Love ur work
You Guys rock...! GOD Bless..
Thank you Yahaira! God bless you too! :)
Are your pops decorated with fondant or chocolate or candy melts? How beautiful!!!thank you so much!!!
One more question please. Do you still steam something that has been painted with luster dust? Again, thank you!
Hi Julie! These are solid gumpaste balloon cake toppers. Not cake pops. :)
Hi Julie! Yes, we do steam decorations dusted with lusters and shimmers. :) Your'e very welcome!
Great job I love it but what are the toppers made of? Do you have a video on it?
Thank you Laura😉
You're very welcome. :)
I recently made some figurines (pigs) out of pink gum paste. I use americolor for the pink and Marshmallow Fondant with Tylose. After a few days the pink started fading and seems to be getting lighter every day... My question is: Will this steaming technique keep the color from fading?
Do you need a special steamer for cake or can you use an ordinary steamer?
Hi laura please r these made of fondant?
Saludos a tu esposo !
Hola, muchas gracias por compartir todo lo que sabes con nosotros. Una pregunta, yo utilizo fondant de marshmellows... Se puede utilizar el steamer para darle el brillo al igual que el fondant normal o el gumpaste? Muchas gracias! Dios te bendiga!
Hey guys!!! Was wondering! Do you have to steam right away after making the decorations or do I wait till they're full dried?? Thanks guys!!!
Aaah.. ok... That makes more sense. LOL. I wouldn't recommend using it on chocolate because the HEAT will melt your choc. :)
Oh wow... I´ve been looking for this. Thanks so much for sharing that. Beautiful results...
It's silver highlighter dust.
