Please disregard the person that told you that you are not supposed to put your hand on your chest. As an American, it fills me with pride when I see foreigners supporting America in any way. Again, FORGET what that person told you. Americans would be honored to see you participate in our anthem the way it was meant to be!
Yes, as another American, whose father served over 30 years in our military & as a former military wife myself, I totally agree with the above comment. Whomever told you that you're not supposed to put your hand over your heart was utterly WRONG! That was a very UN-AMERICAN thing for that person to say. It is a sign of respect, regardless if you are a citizen of this country or not. When we Americans are in other countries or at sporting events & those countries' anthems are played, we honor their homeland's song by standing silently, heads bowed, or whatever sign of respect is acceptable. To not do so would be highly disrespectful & rude no matter what country you come from & what country you are visiting - period. Look at videos of past Olympic Games & you see mutual respect between every country. If you want to put your hand on your heart, then do so proudly, because we are proud that you honor our anthem (& it's history) as much as we do. What is sad is that in other videos where Americans are reacting to Whitney (or any performer) & they just sit there like a lump of lard. OK, I understand it's a reaction video & you can't really stand up like you're supposed to, but these folks dont even bother flopping their lazy hand on their chest or removing their hats/head coverings while their own anthem plays. 🤦♂ So you go ahead & do what feels right to you. 😉
Exactly...and a foreigner...it's a major sign of respect and love.... whoever that said whatever is not a true American, that's ridiculous how someone could put that in someones head...and why?...just yeah that had me a bit mind blown
Dear girl, you can show no greater respect to our country and the freedoms we enjoy than by placing your hand over your heart. We welcome you to stand with us any time. Pay no attention to negative people who tell you otherwise.
There is no reason you can't put your hand over your heart. I think most Americans would be honored by that gesture. Especially in these times. I certainly would be. I really enjoy your Channel. You're a sweetheart. Thank you for doing this reaction. RiP Whitney. Such an epic vocalist and person. She is sorely missed down here on Earth.
Anybody who told you that you couldn't put your hand on your heart is foolish. Thank you for honoring and respecting America. I would LOVE to share the title "American" with you. Thank you for this reaction! ❤
Whitneys version is the absolute best performance of the National anthem everrrr! As a veteran, if you want to put your hand over your heart, you go right ahead.. and we thank you for the love!
Whitney's death crushed me more than any celeb. Grew up singing all her tunes and admiring her so much! I miss you Whitney! No one can beat your voice and beauty 💔
Yes forget who said that. I see putting your hand on your heart during our anthem is a show of respect! U go ahead girl! Love from San Diego California!!
As a descendant of enslaved Africans here in the U.S., this reactions video made me even more emotional than the other international reactions videos I've watched. And it did, because knowing something about our ancestry, Whitney almost assuredly descends from many, many ancestors who originated from the peoples of what we call Nigeria, today. I hope that they are proud of us and feel a part of our accomplishments, here. :)
BEAUTIFUL COMMENT. African Americans embody the best of what America stands for, and I always hope that people of Africa can see that America created a new people of color who are Americans in the truest sense, as most of us do not know the country of origin. Freedom was fought for, by people who said, “enough!” And the beauty of the Constitution that provides for amendments. It remains a living document down through the times.
Young lady whoever told you not to put your hand over your chest is wrong!!! That was mean. Placing your hand over your chest is a sign of respect for our country and our anthem. It is a pleasure to see a person from another country show such respect and emotion. You are always welcome you place your hand over your heart when you listen to this.
As an American, I think it is very sweet and respectful of you to put your hand on your chest. Pay no mind to whoever told you you couldn't! God Bless You.
Hey sis, as an African-American, you are already showing your respect just by even appreciating this video, and whoever foolishly told you that you cannot put your hand over your heart was wrong. I know other people have told you already, but I just want to reinforce it. To be honest, there were times when I didn't/didn't want to, even as an American, so to know that you want to share in a feeling with us is special. Don't let anyone tell you different! Love from the diaspora! ❤
You honor us. I just want to say that every Nigerian I've ever met has been the most kind, gracious human being and that Nigerian food is one of the best cuisines on planet earth. #USA #Nigeria
I am always filled with such pride when I see foreign nationals react so emotionally to Whitney Houston's rendition of the national anthem. And to the person who told you not to put your hand over your heart because you're not an American citizen, I would suggest that you forget that. Americans would be honored to see any foreign national pay such respect to our national anthem. Thank you for sharing this with all of us.
Don't listen to the people saying you can't put your hand on your chest. Americans feel proud when you do that because we're sharing culture and love and American spirit. Your reaction is beautiful!
If I go to another country and hear THEIR National Anthem..I will put my hand on my chest out of RESPECT to the county I am visiting!!.. Girl.. from now on...placing Ur hand over Ur heart..IS a sign of Respect... Don't listen to that other nonsense!!.. God Bless U and Ur Channel.. and I must add..Girl..U look Gorgeous!!.. ✌️❤️😎👍👍🙏🇺🇸🌎
You have every right to place your hand on your heart for our anthem. Our flag embodies the values every person in the world would want for themselves.
Hello Starr you're awesome. Yes please disregard who ever told you not to put your hand on your chest. As an American I am honored when other nationalities respect the anthem 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰. Thank You for your support honor and respect. I respect all anthems in support of other nationalities. Great reaction.
Whoever told you that is a fool! We are brothers and sisters all over the world. Our ancestors were brought here, and you probably have relatives here in the US. If you feel moved to salute or put your hand on your heart, do it! I loved your reaction. Rest in Paradise Whitney, you are greatly missed. Peace to you my African sister.
As a Marine Corps veteran, I am honored that you would place your hand over your heart as a sign of true respect. Please disregard that person who erroneously told you not to.
I appreciate how you said america needs so much respect my dad was a soldier in ww 2 not bragging but men like my dad is why the rest of the world was freed from dictatorship you are a great person love you❤
Another thing. America could certainly use more people like yourselves here and you all are wonderful representatives of your home land. You will always have a place with us. Much Love........
Whitney's performance was timely as the country still loved itself. I'm old enough to remember the gulf war, which to be honest, wasn't really a war but a military procedure - not to lessen the military worth of the men and women who served. But it was real. Just like 911. Plus, she didn't use it as a platform to advertise herself like so many less talented performers have done. She just sang the heck our of it, straight and true. Honorable.
I disagree, beautiful young soul! I am from America. I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction and I think it's a beautiful thing when someone rhat is not from here can understand/ honor usin that way! Whitney's such a beautiful soul I could tell that she touched you deeply from the very beginning and when you connect with that energy and it moves you to do such a thing that's just a sign that we are all one we are all connected if we take the time to pay attention to it and recognize it that's what's important because it brings us all together! Before you even said anything, when you put your hand on your heart I teared up! Always be you! Don't let horrible people on here stop you from following your soul!❤
You absolutely can put your hand over your heart if that is what you feel. God bless you for that feeling you felt. I feel sorry for the person that ever told you not to do that.
If you want to put your hand on your chest to show your respect for the song, do it. Don’t listen to trolls. Thank you for the love you showed to this wonderful version of the anthem.
Who ever told you to not put your hand on your chest is just a slob. You can show support we all family in this world we are no better. All love from America ma keep being awesome queen.
You're absolutely beautiful, have a beautiful heart and soul. I am an American and have absolutely no issue with you feeling a sense of love when you listened to The Star-spangled Banner, regardless of who sang it, I am honored that this song touched your heart and I am honored that you put your hand on your heart and anyone that doesn't share the same Pride as a US Citizen when a song about our country touches others from various countries or continents, isn't a fellow American of mine. Please ignore anyone that has anything negative to say in your comments when you feel love when watching or listening to something and should never matter where we come from as Humans because the same God Made US All In His Image ❤️

Whitney Houston sang the National Anthem like no one had before and likely no one will again. I remember watching this and thinking of my brother serving in the Army in Kuwait as they were in combat. Many of those men and women who are still living are permanently ill or disabled by mysterious illnesses from exposure to various chemicals and the smoke from the oil well fires in the desert. Their families too, have paid a life-long price for that one family member's involvement in the Gulf War of 1991.
This is the time in my life I remember even the tragedy brought this country together the first few seconds she was saying, and you could just felt like you could hear a pin drop in that stadium. I am sorry that anyone ever made you feel that you couldn't put your hand over your heart upon hearing our National Anthem or ANY National Anthem. I am proud to know you have these feelings for America. Thank you, and thank you for your video. Whitney Houston's death was such a loss to the world.
Whoever told you that putting your hand over your chest would be seen as disrespectful was full of SH_T! As an American myself I would take it as you are showing respect for the American flag! By the way, in America most of us tend to not judge other people, but we still have some bigots that having disappeared from the face of American soil. Yes. She understands what the song means. Notice what she does with the word “free”
