The Greatest of the Great, Queen of the Queens, Powerhouse of Acting, Iconic Legend & THE LAST EMPRESS OF INDIAN CINEMA: THE SRIDEVI. The Legend who conquered & ruled like Empress in Tamil, Telugu, Malayam, Kanada & Bollywood cinema. Her divine & luminous legacy will live on forever and will continue to inspire generations of upcoming young actors. Love, respect & prayers🙏🙏🙏(Diehard fan from NEPAL)
Why is it that no one talked about her second innings? For me, english vinglish is one of the best performances ever in indian cinema! I would say that one film is all that you need to become a fan of the great actor that she was! I just can not imagine any other actorplaying shashi godbole! And also not to forget mom, especially the scene in the hospital where the doctor tells her that her daughter has been raped. The way she cries is so damn natural and powerful that I had tears automatically rolling down my cheeks, not because I got emotionally connected with the film or its characters, but merely bcoz of the magnetic performance that she delivers. It is like her telling you "I am crying, so you also better feel sad"! Such was the impact she made on me as an actor. I dont remember being "hypnotised" to such an extent by any other performance!
Sridevi was surely one of the best. And she definitely had more to give to Films. It would have been great to watch her playing roles in her 50s redefining the role of women in cinema just as she redefined role of the heroine in jer younger days. It's so sad she was taken too soon.
This video is priceless, I would vouch for any mad Sridevi fan to watch this video. And I hope,Sridevi's daughters would watch this too. Thank you for, this video
Sridevi mam sacrifice her life for acting, she can't enjoy childhood life, total 50years acting life is wonderful...where ever you go Sridevi name is a brand.....
Sridevi is definitely biggest female superstar because she managed to deliver a superhit movie in 2012- English vinglish after 15 years hiatus. no other heroines did that.. Even MOM movie in 2018 was a hit too.
Once again, excellent work! Idon't think DP has gotten a role that shows her comic skills... but nobody (in my opinion) is as versatile as sridevi. Urvasi came very close, but didn't have the pan indian audience.
IMO Sridevi is the biggest superstar of India because I have not seen a single male/female actor who has made so big in all the major film industries of India. Hema Malini was a great dancer but then that was it, she could not do justice to the roles framed for her by gulzar. Madhuri Dixit was a better actor than Hema but she was again more of a dancer and a temporary craze and her failures in all her comebacks in this changed bollywood have proved it. Sridevi ruled Indian audiences from the 70s to early 90s and her outstanding comebacks both in EV and MOM has put her above every single actress of bollywood. I have not seen films from south so I would not comment. Overall she is so iconic considering she was an uneducated lady with no training ls either in acting or dance but she became an icon in both!! Incredible!
Oh yes, her Telugu and Tamil movies are simply exceptional!! They are classics even now!! She was the biggest superstar with craze similar to Rajnikant and Chiranjeevi
BR, I was waiting for you to say about her Hawa Hawaii performance / acting / dancing from MR. India. Missing that was the only glitch.. It sad that she had to depart so soon, in this manner.. Thumbs up for your channel..
Look her the way she emotes the small gestures and reactions, which #BR mentioned in this video, those are really difficult to pull off than the so-called serious and bold acting packed with lots emotions and thunderous dialogues. ( Just try yourself in front of a mirror and realize.) She was a complete package of beauty, acting, and personality.
nice one...though i feel this is too less about her. Given the volume of work that she has done, we can dedicate one full episode to one language of films and just go on and on. We cud also talk about her hiatus where she was still in the public eye. Her stint as a fashion icon, the TV show Malini Iyer, her comeback, theres a lot more to Sridevi than the comparison of North and South. Shes a pan india superstar
YOu should watch Sridevi's Telugu movie- kshana Kshanam.. its on amazon prime directed by RGV. i dont think any other actor could have pulled off that role with such ease. its one of her best performances..
Yes...it is a class and Sri exceptionally well those comic scenes and glamorous outfits during song sequences...dance movements for those songs are also out of the world...very stylish and trendsetter movie..
Vow! Now this is the content we need to encourage!! Like the audience encourages crappy coverages, I have observed that even sensible content makers are always noticing and unintentionally encouraging trolling!! Kudos to u and the intelligent questions asked by people
Really liked your point on song-acting at the end. Sridevi was delightful in Sippi Irukudhu and even Enthan Kannil. In terms of today's actresses, I think Nithya Menen is good at song- acting, if you watch her in OKK'S songs and Mazhai Varum Mazhaithuli. She can emote well and has spunk.
Thank you for doing this excellent insightful feature when the FC Hindi/Bollywood channel has been relatively silent on Sridevi's oeuvre. On your point about Sri being perhaps the only successful South Indian actor becoming extremely successful in Bollywood, I was wondering whether you should consider Vyjanthimala as being the first South Indian star to accomplish such a feat?
shubranshu1234 I was going through this video again today after a long time! I too agree that FC Hindi was very silent post Sridevi’s demise, not a proper article on her humongous career graph! Bharadwaj Rangan sir - I have noticed that FC has a bias against Sridevi, be it her stupendous comeback films like EV and MOM or her “colossal” days of the 80s/90s! Why is this bias? Even in the list of 100 greatest performances of the decade, Sridevi does not get a place for EV or MOM (she won a national award for the latter!), how is this even possible?
Sridevi is a dynamite on screen. Some of the movie plots like Naagin were so poorly directed, but it was Sridevi's on screen charisma and great acting that took it to different heights. Sad that our Indian mentality (including movie reviewers) keeps looking towards Hollywood while naming great actresses. But I will say Sridevi is as influential to Indian cinema like Meryl streep is for Hollywood. She was the inspiration of every middle class lady. She is the first actress to carry all kinds of roles from action, dance, comedy, anger , fear on screen. She was equal to Amitabh those days something even a hero could not acheive.
I think it is important to point out that Anushka Shetty has been doing very big budget blockbusters in Telugu cinema. She also does glamorous roles and more importantly, she's succeeding in everything she's doing. I think she's the closest to Sridevi in Telugu cinema at present.Anushka has two massive industry hits in Baaghmathi and Arundathi.
Thanks for putting this together. Would love a podcast from you where you and another person(s) discuss Tamil, hindi and English movies. Would make a great commute listen.
She did many starring/titular roles like Madhumati, Amrapali and especially B R Chopra's Sadhana (co-starring Sunil Dutt who was just an up and coming actor at the time) for which she won many awards. She was a fantastic dancer, had a great command over both Hindi and most south indian languages, which Sri didnt. She could do glamorous (Sangam with Raj Kapoor and Rajendra Kumar), Serious (Devdas with Dilip Kumar), comedy (New Delhi, Rangoli, with Kishore Kumar). She was undoubtedly the first South Indian female super star, way before Hema and Rekha arrived on the scene.
Moondram pirai, was an utter flop in hindi.. People kicked the movie out in the north. It was K. Raghavendra Rao's HIMMATWALA, that was a remake of Telugu film OORIKI MONAGADU, that catapulted Sridevi to stardom. The hindi version was also directed by K. Raghavendra Rao.
The closest somebody has come to replicating her kind of South to North success would be Asin, who had a pretty good run down south and though she did not have as illustrious a bollywood career as Sridevi, she was getting movie offers in bollywood when she got married and called it quits.
crazyshit1985 I agree that Asin brought a Sridevi-like stardom. She had presence, comic timing, and good dialogue delivery. The problem was apart from Pokkiri and Ghajini, most of her roles weren't memorable. Likewise with her doormat roles in Hindi.
Another actress that comes to mind - doing the South to North transition is Ileana. Though again as BR said even she isn't much of a 'star' being able to carry the film alone.
This a shitty statements I had ever come across. Sridevi totally did 300 odd movies, aasin did hardly 30 movies, sridevi before marriage done about 290 movies, in what universe u estimated aasin was closer.. Wake up
Yeah I asked that question to BR coz I thought about it a lot and none comes in mind to fit in all three. May be Nayantara might come close after few years. She is a good performer - done lot of glamourous role - also did a mass hero role in Dora. But she has long way to go..
Sridevi is the Last Empress of Indian Cinema. Her acting prowess is so magical, pure and divine. She is the screen goddess!
The Greatest of the Great, Queen of the Queens, Powerhouse of Acting, Iconic Legend & THE LAST EMPRESS OF INDIAN CINEMA: THE SRIDEVI. Because Shashi Godbole is Marathi and Sridevi was not one bit Maharashtrian in her mannerisms, speech etc.
Sridevi was surely one of the best. And she definitely had more to give to Films. It would have been great to watch her playing roles in her 50s redefining the role of women in cinema just as she redefined role of the heroine in jer younger days. It's so sad she was taken too soon.

Best description of undisputed The iconic Superstar The SriDevi....❣❣
Sridevi mam sacrifice her life for acting, she can't enjoy childhood life, total 50years acting life is wonderful...where ever you go Sridevi name is a brand.....
Sridevi cannot be replaced, she was the best. Rip Sridevi.best in her business
Sridevi is definitely biggest female superstar because she managed to deliver a superhit movie in 2012- English vinglish after 15 years hiatus. no other heroines did that.. Even MOM movie in 2018 was a hit too.

aksm I agree. I think Urvashi is one of the most underrated actor

17:25 finally someone said it and said it loud 👌 blaming everything on the media is wrong .. You rock baddy ..
The.first piece of that is media worthy post Sri Devis demise. Well done.
BR, I was waiting for you to say about her Hawa Hawaii performance / acting / dancing from MR. India. Missing that was the only glitch.. It sad that she had to depart so soon, in this manner.. Thumbs up for your channel..
Meendum Kokila - who can forget this movie
Great. Really the best tribute. Wish every actor learns to do the same good films and colorful films.
Yes, many people have a very narrow definition of what "acting" is.
For a painfully shy person IRL like sridevi whatever she does before camera is good acting
nice one...though i feel this is too less about her. Given the volume of work that she has done, we can dedicate one full episode to one language of films and just go on and on. Yes totally!! Kshana Kshanam and Jagadeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundari cannot be imagined without Sridevi!!
Vow! Now this is the content we need to encourage!! Like the audience encourages crappy coverages, I have observed that even sensible content makers are always noticing and unintentionally encouraging trolling!! Kudos to u and the intelligent questions asked by people
Thank you.

Oh yeah. Song acting is an almost lost art today.
Sri devi is somebody all feminist or otherwise should really feel proud of.
Thank you for doing this excellent insightful feature when the FC Hindi/Bollywood channel has been relatively silent on Sridevi's oeuvre. Sri was the first one who started wearing designer clotbs8

thiruvetti - absolutely Naagin was super hit, no one else could have pulled it on so gracefully !!
It is Nagina...
Not naagin..
There are two naagins before..
One vyjaanthimala another one is Reena Roy starter .
I think it is important to point out that Anushka Shetty has been doing very big budget blockbusters in Telugu cinema. Anushka is pretty dumb actress and overrated. She doesn't have that "navarasa" talents in her. And her movies were hit because of CGI and VFX.
Thanks for putting this together.
Would love a podcast from you where you and another person(s) discuss Tamil, hindi and English movies. Would make a great commute listen.
Podcasts? Hmmm... something to think about. But won't you miss the video bits we carefully scrounge around and put together? :-P
Omg!! Finally, I was so waiting for this.
Did you like the Kamal-Sridevi comparison clip? :-)
brilliant video n a big thank u..
Honestly, I don't think Hema Malini or Madhuri had Sridevi's range. Her versatility was her asset!
Agree on this ! Rekha is still comparable
@@sachinshyam2663 Rekha and Sridevi sum up Bollywood for me. Stunning personalities.
Thank you Baradwaj Rangan sir.
parava k - this was a real tribute to her ! Hindi Media never gave her This kind of grace ful coverage
You did not mention Vyjayanthimala! She did some big name movies with Raj kapoor! I think she was a super star too.
Yes, she was a big star. But again, she was paired opposite the big stars. I don't recall her pulling off solo hits.
Thank you film companion and thank you sir for answering my question
I applaud your reply to the plastic surgery question.
🙏
Tamannah copies Sridevi to the dot, just like Dhanush does Rajini.
Kangana ranaut copies Sridevi.
Moondram pirai was released in 1982 and not 1976
Moondram pirai, was an utter flop in hindi.. People kicked the movie out in the north. It was K. Raghavendra Rao's HIMMATWALA, that was a remake of Telugu film OORIKI MONAGADU, that catapulted Sridevi to stardom. The hindi version was also directed by K. Raghavendra Rao.

Yes, Asin did manage some level of success. But she didn't have the Sridevi/Madhuri/Hema kind of stardom where she could carry the film all alone.
Another actress that comes to mind - doing the South to North transition is Ileana. Though again as BR said even she isn't much of a 'star' being able to carry the film alone.
What rubbish. I have seen all her bollywood movies. She is barely average.
This a shitty statements I had ever come across. Sridevi totally did 300 odd movies, aasin did hardly 30 movies, sridevi before marriage done about 290 movies, in what universe u estimated aasin was closer.. Wake up
Vidya Should Do Sridevi Biopic
9.00 🙌🏻
I don’t think Hema Malini is in the same league as an actress as Sridevi…HM had a great career, but she was a limited actress…
In hindi cinema...Suraiya was called first superstar back in 40s..films sell on her name not Hero.
Tell about something special chinnagounder movie
Kangana is good actress in current generation
8:00
Sir,when the question asked abt a heroine being like a water as sridevi in current generation, would deepika padukone be a possible answer?
I don't know that DP is *that* flexible as a performer.
I don't think DP has gotten a role that shows her comic skills... but nobody (in my opinion) is as versatile as sridevi. Urvasi probably very close.
Yeah I asked that question to BR coz I thought about it a lot and none comes in mind to fit in all three.
May be Nayantara might come close after few years. She is a good performer - done lot of glamourous role - also did a mass hero role in Dora. But she has long way to go..
My question wasn't answered and none of the questions could answer my question....Im dissapointed and going to unsubscribe instantly
Hema was a bad actor and a bad dancer.
So true
