I literally have to convince my brain I'm filming a tutorial or an ad for a product to make myself clean. I used to pretend I was Cinderella when I was a kid.
Love the trips and tricks. However, keeping the earth in mind, did you know that when microfiber cloths and synthetic clothes are laundered, an average of 9 million microfibers are released that wastewater treatment plants cannot remove and end up in the ocean and affecting marine life.😢 What happened to damp dry cotton cloths to clean/dust.
Cotton stuff is so hard to find! I like to dust with old cotton socks. But cotton socks are really hard to find.
We use old underwear/towels and Costco or hardware stores have cotton rags. I know sometimes cotton rags are at a premium. Wishing you success in your quest!😉
@@lisamorris4232 I use old underwear too. Which was awkward that one time a friend came over and I had left a rag out...
This was awesome, Cas. I got myself a reusable bendable extendable microfiber dusting wand, but it didn't even come close to clean when I put the head through the wash after using it for dusting the first time, so now I wrap a wet microfiber cloth around the end and secure it with rubber bands, making sure to cover the entire removable head - that way, all I have to do is change the rag when it gets dirty enough, then throw the rags in the wash when I'm done.
Am I the only one who keeps waiting for the "thank you to those of you who stayed to the end"?🤣
I would like her to address the amount of plastic pollutants her products contribute to the environment.
Funny, not funny story..... my dishwasher had a popcorn kernel stuck in the seal and I had water leak all over the floor two loads in a row before I figured out the problem. I now wipe the seal inside and on the door of the dishwasher regularly. Lesson learned. 😅❤
Of course MM sidesteps the serious issue of degraded microfiber particles that is devastating to the environment.
Great podcast but for the microfiber cloth. Here is the reason not to promote microfiber:Microfibers can harm the small aquatic organisms that ingest them. Microfibers can also contain toxic chemicals that are intentionally added to textiles during the manufacturing process or that accumulate on plastic particles in the ocean.
I'm a baking soda or vinegar cleaner here. Those two work for everything. I wish more would ditch the toxic cleaners. Over 30 percent of the population and growing are reacting immediately to those everyday household "cleaner" toxins.
Unfortunately I react to vinegar so it’s a no from me.
You can replace vinegar with citric acid. Smells way better and does the same job. Cant stand the smell of vinegar
If you are blessed enough to own fine antique furniture, do NOT ever allow liquid product, even water, to stand on those surfaces; it will ruin them. You can probably get away with extended dwell time on Ikea quality junk, or if it gets ruined, no big deal to replace it. Modern surfaces such as laminate do need time for cleaning products to be effective.
And stop using crappy pledge on your antiques. That stuff is awful.
Oh my gosh, love both of you ladies so much! I've been following both of you for years! As far as the swiffer duster goes, I had one, and instead of buying the replacement, I just wrapped a microfiber cloth around the end and secured it with an elastic. Works like a charm!
I read somewhere that microfiber is made of plastic bits that get into everything, our water, the ground, and don't break down. I wonder if this is true.
Very nice podcast. I purchased many microfiber cloths from
Makers Clean and I have to admit they are by far superior quality than any other I did try from several companies including Ecloths . The latest product the scratch cloth is also very effective, durable and nicely designed. Melisa is so informative and a joy to listen when she shares her knowledge on the cleaning process and tools. Highly recommended.
Cas, With my teen I have let go asking him to clean his room. He’s 16. I say things like ‘I’m not going to ask you to clean your floor but I do need to vacuum.’ He usually begins to clean up his clothes! I didn’t ask anything. I just made a suggestion. I use to bug him about his room but it wasn’t working. He’s so thankful now that I quite nagging about his room.
Not cleaning related, but I love the leg lamp in the background!
I live in the neighborhood where the Christmas Story house lives. 😂😂😂
I love this video/podcast because you gave Melissa most of the time to speak. Not a fan of podcasters who do all the talking. 😅 Very helpful video. Thank you.
Most people never dust their houses at all. I clean houses for a living and most had an inch of dust when I started. Apparently I’m a strange pro cleaner. I don’t spray and wait 15 min. I spray and wipe. 🤷🏻♀️ I do agree with her on disposable products and disinfecting. I use disinfectant in the homes I clean but I almost never use them in my home (pandemic or not!)
Make more podcasts together lol. Thanks .
No body loves cleaning...haha.....but I like both of your cleaning methods! I am old school...but I have done both of your methods...so I mix them up....when I clean...I look around the room and scan up and down and around the room first to see what needs done...then start at the door way clock wise....I get my Tidy Tote and a trash bag...I always do the trash first...then I do a quick declutter through the room...then do a quick tidy and dust the furniture...then I do the floor if it is needed or run my rumba....If I have items that doesn't belong in the room...I put it in the Tidy Tote...and wait until after I am finished with the room or sometimes I wait until I am finished cleaning several rooms or until the Tote is full..same with the trash bag..lol...then I will take the items where they go....Its much easier for me...than running all over the house taking items back to where they belong...I am old..and tore the meniscus in my left knee...so its hard for me to run here and there! But I do get it all done!
I clean houses and actually enjoy cleaning but I do get tired of doing my own after working for others. I def prefer to get paid for it 😆
I really enjoy and look forward to both of your videos and podcasts. I am always learning so much and I am constantly amazed at how down to earth and encouraging you both are. Years ago my mother cleaned apartments and gave me several tips that have always stayed with me and helped so much. One tip had to do with the bathroom. She said that if I will take the couple of extra minutes and wipe down the shower and sink when I'm done, my "deep cleaning" later on wouldn't take all day. And she was right. I try to do this because I found out that a little extra time now saves lots more time later on. I have to remember "work smarter, not harder." Looking forward to your next video/podcast!
As a mature parent with grown adult married children, one thing I would have done differently, is if I made cleaning more 'fun' by cleaning along with the kids. Easier said than done, but 2 out of my 3 children are on the messier side, and had I made it fun for them, I believe they would be cleaner today.
10:19 I've come to find I HATE microfiber. Anytime i try to dry dishes it just smears the water around (doesn't absorb it), same thing with trying to dry your hands. Also, during the wintertime when your hands are dry and chapped, the microfiber materials clings to your skin and I HATE that feeling. Big icky feeling.
Ooooh spray and walk away!
Also contact time is important if you’re disinfecting.
My mother would put on one of her record albums while we cleaned, I wonder if that is why I have nice family cleaning memories. I have one of her favorite albums to put on that I enjoy listening to even now.
Throwaway cleaning products are the number one money waste. You need very few products for cleaning your home well.
I have a friend who is 6' 10", and he says people don't clean the top of their fridge. So I made a cover for the fridge. I just change it out every so often and throw it in the wash.
Love swiffer products. Don’t throw away what you’ve already purchased - that would be very wasteful.
Swiffer is great…not sure why she said it wasn’t except she wants to sell her products. I’ve used swiffer products in my biz for years. Recently I bought a few reusable dusters from Temu I like so I’m using them but I mean…swiffer works just fine….😊 Even the houses I only clean once a month don’t get that dusty in between cleanings
I hate microfiber for dry dusting I'm sorry I just can't do it
Her company’s customer service is awesome too! 🙌🏼 Been using her products for 4 yrs now and they last.
Between the two of you I've learned better and simpler ways to clean / do laundry. OMG stuff I never thought of before. Just ordered a sweeper for up high - should be here in a couple days... thank goodness!!
swiffer duster is amazing! another one promoting their product how biased is she
Lol I actually agree with you. I have cleaned for 23 years and I use the swiffer dry cloths and love them. They are awesome for extremely dusty homes.
@@dianasimplifies I love them as dust cloths, not just on the mop!
@@jenniferpearce1052 yes that's how I use them as well. ❤️❤️❤️
You 2 are a delight.
I'd love to use more microfiber cloths but what am I doing wrong? After I cleaned really dusty stuff, like blinds and doorframes, my cloths came out of the wash looking as dirty as they went in - all covered in balls of dust, lint, hair. Yuck! Is that a sign of a bad/cheap cloth and not that I did something wrong?
I use a mix of era detergent and water in a bottle and just wet each dirty cloth with that mixture and throw in the wash. Mine come out clean and I clean houses for a living so mine are pretty filthy as well. Hope this helps!
@@dianasimplifies Thanks for the tip! 🙂
The dust, lint and hair are why I don't use things like that. A nice terry cotton dish rag works much better for me.
What is really bad is living in a dirty house with cancer and COPD and being thrilled to have washed the dishes and washed a load of laundry. I keep watching these videos when I have to clean something I don't want to do. I can't do it without these videos.
I loved the podcast, but you didn’t mention how we feel more in control of everything in our world if it is spinning out of control in some ways. A clean and tidy home is an opportunity to feel some satisfaction, and also to bless other people with hospitality at any given moment.

Why
I am re-listening to this because the first time I used it to fall asleep because your voices are so calming. While sleeping, Cass was cleaning my house with me!
Melissa, I watch your videos, too. And I'm going to round up all my cleaning supplies, look up their names on your channel and see how to clean with them and use up the HUGE pile of stuff I have.
Thank you both for this video.
Will check hers out! I use Norwex duster…and ❤ it!😊
Really enjoyed this podcast 🙏
