I just bought one yesterday and smoked a tri tip on it as soon as I finished building it. Right off the bat I don't like the rack either. It is flimsy but for 130 bucks it's not bad. I don't like that it doesn't have a temp gauge either. I drilled a hole and stole the gauge off a kettle I don't use anymore. My biggest problem is I ran dirty smoke just to see and it was dumping smoke out of every crack, crevice and connection. My plan is order the high temp green egg sealer tape and take it back apart and seal it up. I love cars, Harley's and bbqing so I'm going to mix everything together and see what I can modify and make a 130 dollar smoker look and cook like a 500 dollar smoker.

I was just looking at it at Walmart and to be honest for that price Ioved it . Thank you very kindly for the review on what you think as a mechanic....... you can do all kinds of modifications for that smoker. I'm presuming this will be a walk in the park for you 😂. Im gonna get one . Really good review didnt notice the spacing between the grates .

I bought the same grill. I do not like the gap between the top and bottom of the cooking chamber when closed. I feel like I lose a lot of heat. I put heavy duty foil to close the gap. It seemed to hold heat better. i will probably get a heat resistant gasket seal to seal it.

Buy grilling sealing gaskets. They are like 15$ for two rolls all you will need. They have liquid grilling cement as a sealant. I put some heavy duty aluminum foil on the cracks. Either side of the foil I put the liquid cement. Holds heat better. The grill needs a cover avoid it getting covered by rain.

I just bought one today ,I figured the chargriller one I liked would be better but $700.00 bucks is more then I can afford . And I saw charcoal grills.for 99.00 bucks so why not spend 28.00 more and get a smoker too. Used ones on Facebook were 85.00 bucks but corroded and a pain to take apart to put in my vehicle. So ,Ill see how this one goes. Yes,It takes longer then gas but if I'm in a hurry I'll just buy some Que already done . These are for learning and taking your time

Did anyone compare this to the Nexgrill version that Home Depot sells ? I have a Nexgrill that is rotted out on the bottom. The charcoal tray is a lot better on this version of the grill. Home Depot wants $199 for the same version of this Grill called a Nexgrill. I got mine a few years ago for $100 on sale I don't want to spend $200 to replace it. I like the bottom tray on this Grill. This just seems like a Walmart version of the $200 Grill at Home Depot. I wish I could see a side-by-side comparison because I'm really interested in getting this one

I agree HD Nexgrill price has gone up I was also looking at this one also. I don't smoke food all that much why should I spend $600 on a Trager. Seen more then a few videos these cheap smokers work almost as good. I got a tour of a popular BBQ place where I live owner showed me his smokers they were made out of large propane tanks had offset burner they put wood in it. It's not rocket science no reason these cheap ones can't work just as well.

Its a piece of junk the way it was built. Huge gap and loss of heat from the back. 10 hours to cook a rack of ribs. Really needs to be sealed. That's the main issue with this hunk of junk. You can cook hamburgers and hot dogs and grill a steak but to smoke a brisket or a simple rack of ribs, you might as well forget it. It leaks from every corner and is impossible to get it up to 250 degrees to smoke any meat. Not possible to regulate the temperature. I am trying to seal mine up so I can do a brisket. I also have a weber kettle grill and I've done ribs and briskets on it. But on the expert grill, I used two bags of charcoal, and a bag and a half of smoke wood and more apple wood I have stacked in my yard just for a single rack of ribs. On my weber, I don't even go through a single bag of charcoal. I use a slow n sear. I start a few chunks of charcoal and then fill up the basket with charcoal and smoke chips and it don't take no 10 hours to get tender and moist rack of ribs. A brisket cook is longer but still, not even a a quarter bag of charcoal and 12 hours for the brisket. It comes out beautiful and tender! We will see how my sealing on the expert grill works. I'm 255 dollars deep in it now. Still waiting for some more sealing tape and silicon caulk coming from amazon. Once that gets here I will finish sealing it then I'll smoke another rack of ribs to test it. I bought the dang thing as a birthday present to myself. What a disappointment.
