Excellent video. Mine also smokes from around the sides. For the grates, it's actually better to keep them separate. You can move one grate to stir or add charcoal, add a container with water for smoking, and it's easier to handle for cleaning.
Just out of curiosity what kind of smoke wood do you use an offset is it hardwood split wood lump would or chunks or is it chips and how well does it take to heat from long smokes such as a Boston butt or brisket
The reason why I asked I'm thinking about getting one and I know Walmart cheap smokers don't hold up well to heat at all and I was just wondering how well yours is holding up
@@CharlotteFranklin-yd5cj I've had mine for little over 3 months and I've used, log splits, chunks, and chips in it and it is already rusting. The firebox coal tray irreparably warped after the first use. If you are planning on getting this, get smoker gasket and smoker gasket adhesive to seal it properly, otherwise it will leak smoke out of the lid and between the firebox and the main body.
Yep. Tried to smoke my turkey today. Never even got close to temp. So yeah, had to do two fires. Good grill, lousy smoker. For the price it's a good jump off point to learn on.
The seperate grates are nice. I can slide food over and then lift one grate and put more charcoal if I need to without having to take the whole grate off.
Just bought one and it didn’t come either main lid handle. The screws don’t fit in smoke box hinges. I immediately noticed the gap between the bottom and top lid.
Just bought another one of these grills. I just looked for that cover. OUT OF STOCK at all Walmart's now. I need one, I started looking at more expensive heavier grills in the $400 range, but I don't know how long they would last outside even covered up and couldn't find one as easy as this with a removeable ash tray and adjustments like this one. It is well designed, not heavy duty but a nice size, easy to clean, and cooks really well for me. If they made this more "Heavy Duty" I think it would blow away the Car Grillers and Oklahoma Joe Highlander. Anyway, I had my last one 4 years, always outside and it never really rusted. My problem was the ash pan in mine from 4 years ago was designed a little different than this one in the video. It was a wire grate like this but a flat pan under it same size as the grate. Ash would get under the pan and I wouldn't clean under there and the ash actually created the rust problem in mine and I have a 4 inch hole in the bottom. Grill would still work great but for $127 I couldn't pass up a new one. I need to find a cover now, old cover was all beat up. This is a really good grill for the money. Smoking with it ... Ray is right, need to put just a few pieces of charcoal in the main box to help it keep the temperature. Side box will bring up the smoke.
the leaking of smoke is a big deal for me, i work at walmart at saw this display whrn hit was first built, the air gap on the backside was highly disappointing
Actually thinking of getting one! your videos are the only reviews I've found regarding this grill/smoker thank you so much for the info!
You're very welcome
I used hi heat tape for my grill works greats. No smoke except where its supposed to ❤
Thanks for the tips! I can tell you appreciate barbecuing.
Need a suggestions on loading it. I heard but tutorial on that would be awesome as well. Great job. I have one as well
Nice idea on welding it! I have the same one and be careful that you check the nut for the smoke cap because mine unscrewed and feel off.
Same had to tighten and add loctite

Thank you and yes I can see that I just like having one grill to pull up instead of 3 lol personal preference
Thanks for the vid , I got one the other day and ordered some lavalock and some gasket tape to get it more closure😅
Cool let me know how's it works out

I prefer using coal and chips together to maintain heat

They don't leak smoke I haven't had a issue with them and location you want at roughly food hight hope this helps

Where can I get a lid handle for main
Grill mind was missing and to late to return

did you get a cover? Also looking for one
thinking about getting this for my first smoker. But i don't want it to leak a lot of smoke. How could you fix that?
Not sure I just deal with it it's fine in the summer
You can search other videos on how to fix the leakage
Good review i will now be buying one.
Great video thanks 😊
Thanks and you're welcome 🙂
the leaking of smoke is a big deal for me, i work at walmart at saw this display whrn hit was first built, the air gap on the backside was highly disappointing
Yea I've been using it it's not bad with a log in the side brisket turned out great it's a good beginner smoker for the price
You lose alot of heat from the gap in the backside. I use heavy duty foil an stuff it in the gap.
I'll have to give that a try thanks for the tip
That was the worst part of it for me, any idea besides the foil...
Curious how do you clean out the fire box? I noticed the tray doesnt come out unless you tip it completely over
You can vacuum it out or small broom and sweep it
how do you fucking put it together
It should have a manual for assembly
Instructions........what the.....are you mental ? I know I could have made better Instructions but.....😅 No reading required.
😂😂😂
I just did it. What a pain in the ass!
Tell me you don't know how to use a smoker without telling me
I'll just tell you I don't. You tell me how. Why are you here if you do ?
