Late in the summer of 1356, the oldest son of England’s King, Edward the Third, Edward the Black Prince, led a small army from Bordeaux deep into the French King’s realm, almost exactly ten years after the humiliating defeat of the French at Crecy in 1346.

The coins featured are:
(1) a silver groat, or fourpence, of King Edward III of England, from the Baron Ian Stewartby collection, in good very fine / almost extremely fine condition.
(2) a gold Franc à cheval of King Jean II (John II) of France, in mint state. This was the first franc. It was introduced in 1360 to pay the Ransom of King John II of France. This coin secured the king's freedom and showed him on a richly decorated horse earning it the name franc à cheval (meaning "free on horse" in French).

The scene of the last French knight standing beside his King, knowing there is no hope for him, and dying by the enemy’s sword is very powerful
It has historical president, almost none of King John “Le Bel”’s entourage of knights survived the battle, most were killed by arrow or archers during the start of the battle, while many others died fighting at his side.
There is a very famous story about that. At that point in the battle, as John was doing his last stand, his young son, Philip, 14yo, was looking for him "Père, gardez-vous à droite. Père, gardez-vous à gauche" (Father, watch on your right. Father, watch on your left).
Philip was therefore called "the Bold" (le Hardi) and received Burgundy later and married the count of Flanders' only daughter. Ironically, his lineage was to be big, big, trouble for the kings of France...

Look closely. Many of the minifigures that get stabbed or sliced are just reused torso that were already destroyed. What I liked about this LEGO stop motion was that it was educational and did a good job of showing the inescapable and permanent horrors of war. You can buy Lego bootlegs from china (aliexpress) for under a dollar a minifig as well as bows, weapons, armor and horses for cheap...I see aftermarket helmets in the video. If they didn't use bootlegs, they should've have...at least for the casualties! (Better to destroy/damage them than the genuine article).

Not to ignite a firestorm bigger than the firebombing of Tokyo but I know I'm not the only one who noticed that very few of the villagers had any sort of weapon with which to defend themselves. This is why you must never let sword control take root in your kingdom.
Uhmm...This sounds kinda dumb, like, swords are actually not the best option to fight any tipe of armored enemy(swords were mostly used in duels), and also those are villagers, they mostly need tools to do their job, and they would prefer a good metal tool to do their job rather than a sword tgat most of then don't know how to use properly.
But I guess your original post is more "political" in nature, in that case I would prefer not to interfere, but the same principles applies: a tool will be more useful than a sword most of the time, and don't let commoners use swords without teaching them how to use them properly.
@@ghosthost2033 It was more simply an edgy joke really. But yes, it's definitely in their best interest to know how to use a weapon they've been given to defend themselves.
@@aputridpileofb-movies6542 spears are cheap and plentiful, and if lucky, a bow/crossbows usually available as well. Any other makeshift weapons like pitchforks as well.
@@Korvinian4601 there's no doubt that a wisely led peasant force can win skillful victories if they are wisely used, but the point I was making was about arms control more generally, and I believe some arms control laws were in force in france and england at the time.

For France I’m not that well learned, but I do know that other parts of the medieval world weapons are freely owned. In the HRE, particularly the Free Cities, it is mandatory for citizens in the cities to own a weapon and armour. So, weapon control doesn’t really exist in the medieval age. I’ll find more sources for other kingdoms because laws vary amongst them.
