Red, White and Blue Part One | Army Men Stop Motion

- The pompous Imperial Reds are attacked by a fanatical force of the White Army. Who will prevail?
This army men stop motion film took me the better part of almost two years. I wanted to combine my interest in Qing Chinese history with the Mahdist War, but similar to freshly divorced parents, just because you like two things separately does NOT mean they go well together. Regrettably, Red, White and Blue doesn't involve the United States of America a whole bunch. This army men stop motion animation was supposed to come out before Just Deserts, but procrastination and distractions occurred. I reckon this must be the largest gathering of AIP figures ever seen. I don't know when Part Two will come out, though, so don't ask.
The toy soldiers and figures used in this army men stop motion are from quite an extensive range of brands. The Reds are mostly customized Armies In Plastic figures, from the Boxer Rebellion in China range. Some are from Overall War Nation, an obscure Chinese firm that specialized in East Asian history. The White Army is mostly made of Sudanese Mahdist Dervish and Fuzzy Wuzzy (Beja) warrior figures from Armies In Plastic's Sudan and Egypt category. There are also some Arab (berber) tribesmen and Pashto warriors figures from AIP, along with Jecsan Arabs (another obscure Spanish company), Hat, and Steve Weston Toy Soldier army men in the lot. If you dare ask what army men I used, I will chase you.
The sound effects are pulled from a variety of video games or movies, including but not limited to Total War, Command and Conquer Generals, Half Life 2, Bioshock Infinite, Saving Private Ryan, Lord of the Rings, Khartoum, the Four Feathers, Young Winston, Warlords, 55 Days at Peking, and even the celebrated and perhaps immortal army men classic Plastic Apocalypse.

Moving that many figures in one shot must be some kind of measuring bar to an army men/figure animator's dedication.
I should hope so!

Hi
La verdad que si
BRO YOU MAKE SO COOL AMRY MEN VIDEOS MOE
Best army man stopmotion I’ve seen, hands down!
Thank you!
Epic ! Those horsemen would've bowled over those light Spearman like nine pins , though ! Nice job !
👍🍻
Thanks 👍
Also based Wizards pfp
@SomeDudeArmyMen Thanks , man ! Now , we have three things in common .
Love all stop motion , toy soldiers and Wizards ! When I was a kid living on an army base , they showed that movie , once a month , without fail . I saw it 13 times at the post theater. They had a matinee on Saturday and Sundays and would show all the Harryhausen flicks . Sinbad , Jason , Valley of Gwangi , all those killer ones . Buncha Godzilla , too . Well , back then Toy Soldiers were the bomb before action figs and video games , so I dug those , and still do . I've been collecting for many years . Thanks for the comp . I'll be checking out some more vids . ✌️🍻👍
@@jeffreese1828 ah, it’s good to know the classics are still remembered! Jason is a classic; can’t say I’ve ever seen Sinbad but I’ve heard good things about it
@@SomeDudeArmyMen Oh man , you GOTTA check those out . Some really awesome stop motion work by the same guy did Jason and the Argonauts .
One film predates that , but the other two postdate it and he just got better and better . Ray Harryhausen also did the original Clash of the Titans in the early 80s , that was his last major work . He did ALL his work completely solo !
The films in order are Seventh Voyage of Sinbad , Golden Voyage of Sinbad , and Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger .
The stories aren't interconnected , so don't have to be watched in any order . Think RUclips has the last two for free right now . Patrick Troughton , the 2nd Dr. Who costars in one , and Tom Baker , the 4th Dr.Who , is the evil wizard in another ! How can you lose ? Lol
The effects and the stories are really cool , and a 70s Jane Seymour (hubba-hubba) Co stars in one. And , hey , it's old Arabia so there's always some belly dancers or other babes running around , swordfights , and lots of killer monsters from mythology .
Who could ask for more ?
'Nuff said ! 👍🍻✌️
@@jeffreese1828 I shall have to check them out indeed. Thanks for the issue and your passion and knowledge in the subject!!
Harryhausen’s work has always been a favorite of mine; I was planning to make a short army men film with a reference to Talos, the living statue from Jason. The part when he turns the head, combined with the dread-inducing soundtrack from Bernard Herman is truly iconic. You should also check out the Thief of Bagdad, of Alexander Korda production. An old one and a classic “exotic” and “orientalist” movie; it was also the first movie to use the chroma key technique.
Dude this guy doesn't use like a piece of paper to move all the soldiers, HE MOVES SOLDIER BY SOLDIER!!! It's like he used magic to make the soldiers alive and told them what to do. This guys dedication is absolutely insane, and his attention span is MAX. Can't wait for part 2!
Thanks so much for the compliments!

Thanks so much! Let's hope Stanford thinks the same way
You deserve every single sub and view you get on this video I can’t think of any reason someone wouldn’t like this
Thanks so much!!!
this is AMAZING work you move every soldier one by one for a 1 shot
Thank you!
The time to move all the figures is just amazing
Thanks so much!
@@SomeDudeArmyMen your welcome
A most well made film to say the least! The storyboard was nicely executed from start to finish, be it the congregation of the armies, the climactic battle or otherwise. The soundtracks and various quirky bits of dialogue used also compliment the film incredibly well. It takes great resilience and charisma to compose something of this magnitude, but I think you truly have done it, and very well at that. I look forward with utmost enthusiasm to the second part’s release. Godspeed!
Thanks man, means a lot to me!
Jeez that's a alot of plastic figures you have man
Nice work on this video keep it up
Thanks mate!
Honestly I’m going to comment again. This is a masterpiece. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this much hand to hand combat in an army men video. Also the scale is crazy. It makes sense that this took 2 years! I cannot wait for part 2 but I understand if you don’t want to make it!
Thank you sir again for your compliments!
Hey it’s that one Salinas Stopmotions guy. Changed my main YT name, but both of you guy’s films are amazing

You never disappoint Mr. Some Dude! Serious dedication is what matters and you have triple the dedication as pretty much any stopmotion creator!
you doing stuff like this right now, i wanna see you in a year or two from today!
Thank you so much for the compliment! Means a lot to me, friend!
This stop motion is really amazing, the cannons, the trumpet, drums, gun, cavalry, flags, and more, everything is amazing, the only part I dont understand is how an army superior in numbers lost to a men fewer than them
Thank you!
Epic bro! And i hope you make more of this in the future! And good luck at your journey!

Thank you so much!
@@SomeDudeArmyMen and i also gotta ask what company did you get the army men from
After a month of postponing to watch this film I safely can say this a great and heavily inspired piece of art. It breathes the life of mid 20th century war films and holds together a foundation of action and build up to keep the viewer engaged. If I were to criticize I would’ve like to seen more struggle between the soldiers maybe a few scenes of drawn out parrying that last a few more seconds then the quick kills that make up most of the combat footage in melee. Otherwise great work and I can’t wait to see what the blues hold in store for the reds.
Thank you!
@@SomeDudeArmyMen is the white soldiers mongols?

Where did you get the gun shilling sound, I would love to use it in some of my stop motions.
This is astonishing. Wow. Seeing that many figures move in one scene is mind boggling. It has to be some type of a record. It is an epic scale.
I haven't the time to commit to full on stop motions yet, other than intros, but you're definitely one I learn from and take inspiration from.
Bravo!
Wow, thank you!
An Amazingly well made and large scale film, your work fails to leave one unimpressed

Multiculturalism in army men films is an esoteric boon!
Awesome video man , The figures you used made it very unique considering a majority of people only use toy soldiers from the last 100 years or so, great job!

Yeah my son is wondering where to get the ming dynasty army men. Could you tell us where to purchase them?

Man this is amazing! I love the animation, the figures (yeah, like where the crap did you get all of those) The Asian setting, and especially, the music. That old music. I loved it. The 60s and 70s have some of the best war movies. Keep it up man! Can't wait for part 2!
Thank you sir! I think music is an underrated aspect of these little stop motion films, which I hoped to change
@@SomeDudeArmyMen you did a good job! It really fit the setting and brought back some 70's vibes. These people using Kevin Maceload music that doesn't even hit the setting right just ruins everything. I'm glad to see someone who's got it!

Thanks! Just try using ease in and ease out
@@SomeDudeArmyMen thanks for the tip :) also will you ever give us a collection video?
Boxer Rebellion soldiers! I have about 60 of them, I keep wanting to do a '55 Days at Peking' Diorama. I definitely need to buy a whole lot more. I have a set of the Marines, some British, I can use off White Spanish from San Juan Hill set as Russian, Alamo Mexicans as French (the hats), rifle and pistol Germans as Germans, rifle and pistol and Samurai Sword Japanese as Japanese. I could also use the tan Rough Riders as something. So, I have more than enough Defenders, but I need at least a couple hundred more Boxers. Yes, I have plenty of Cannon and I even have 5 Gatling Guns. Four actual, one was a pencil sharpener. LOL
Those pencil sharpener cannons you get from war museums are always a pleasant surprise!
I only have one Gatling Gun, and 1 Cannon pencil sharpener, took out the pencil sharpener. I got them at the Wilson Creek shop outside of Springfield, Mo. I have lots of other Cannon and 4 Gatling Guns from Civil War and Spanish American War sets. My grandson has most of them now. My Union was a little more diverse as I had African American, Custer dismounted Cavalry, Green Irish Brigade, a small Iron Brigade, Dark Blue and Light Blue. In Confederates I had Grey, Dismounted Grey Cavalry, and Tan. I had plenty of troops, plenty of Artillery, but neither side had much Cavalry. I had 10 mounted Confederates, and 30 Union, so Cavalry was the one aspect of Civil War Dioramas I had trouble making. Now, when my son inherited them he did things a bit different. Two of his favorite movies was Major Dundee and Cavalry Charge with Ronald Reagan. He would set up Union, Cowboys, and Confederates against Mexican Army, a few Mexican Banditos, and Native Americans. Giving the Mexicans the small Alamo Cannons. Of course it was a massacre every time as each Mexican and Native died 20 times each while the entrenched combined forces suffered very light casualties.
Very good
Thanks
Really amazing overall work. Moving that massive amount of figures in those shots had to be real challenging. Great figure selections for this era of histories too. I really appreciated all the conversion work you did on the various figure poses. Very creative and what I like to do when the makers just don't offer the poses I would like to have:) I'm looking forward to Part 2, whenever you post it. Cheers!
Thank you! Glad you noticed the conversion work
