Quite true. This is THE perfect version. You actually never hear a breath, even in the pauses. And her ornamentation is superb. Music suffered an enormous loss on her passing.
Yes, I am very fond of her singing, and fortunately she left us many wonderful recordings, but her untimely death was truly a tragedy for anyone who appreciates music and great singing.
+Diane Schmolka Lorraine Hunt Lieberson was truly a great interpreter of Handel. I'm glad you enjoyed this. You should look for more recordings by her. Such an amazing singer and artist.
This is another beautiful gift from the past. This voice is really impressive for the potentialities and is perfect for this precious melody. As usual your images make all even more enjoyable. Kind regards and many thanks for keeping this voice alive.
@@JeffreyStivers I just realised that I left almost the same "divine" comment on "Angeles ever bright and fair". I really should strive for a bit of variety here... ;O)
Jeffrey Stivers My Lord! That's an understatement, but it is truly difficult to find the words to properly describe Lorraine's artistry. She was much more than a singer . . .
I must confess I've not heard Heather Harper's performance, so I will have to look for it. I'm glad you enjoyed this. I am very fond of Lorraine Hunt Lieberson's singing, and you will find she is well represented on my channel.
I’ve ordered as many of mrs. Hunt Lieberson’s albums as I could find. Heather Harper’s performance can be found on RUclips. After an illustrious career she died last year, aged 88. Her performance, stemming from the late sixties if I remember correctly, is more up tempo.
@@JeffreyStivers Thank you for your message Jeffrey, I was so upset when Lorraine passed, she, I think is a great deal like Dame Janet Baker, another of my loves. I have for c 20 years sung along with Lorraines rendition of Scherza Infida, I always wanted to be an opera singer and am an mezzo, I also volunteer as an ambassador to the Brandenburg Choral Festival of London, the largest choral festival in the country, not singing but I welcome patrons tell them the history of the venues, we perform in all the great London churches, come and see us and say hello, we have cracking concerts. Thanks again I didn't expect you to write, thanks for putting these astounding performances on RUclips. Have a great weekend Linda

Lorraine Hunt Lieberson was an amazing singer.
Love her voice. SO beautiful!
I am very fond of her singing, and she is well represented on my channel.
Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, Handel and the accompanying artwork, no better combination.
Thank you.
You're welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed this.
You rarely hear the full 1/16th note runs in one breath. Maginficent.
fgonzalez43 most singers can't get through them with a *faster* tempo!
Thanks for this memento of a much-missed artist. And thanks for the videos you have been recently posting. Real treats for both eye and ear!
Beauty! Adorable voice! Thanks again. Lovely job.
Adorable. Magnificent. Thanks
Thanks! I enjoy making them.
That is such a great word to describe her singing.
This is the best interpretation I have heard yet. This is superb! Thank you for uploading this, Jeffery.

A magnificent voice with Haendel's masterpiece
Indeed. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Merci bien! 👍 ❤️ 👏
Flawless singing ; perfect, relaxed tempo. (Baroque music is often performed entirely too fast these days.)
You're welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
She is in her Magnificence.......WOW...
Ottimo anche il filmato 👍
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Please feel free to check out other videos on my channel.
The divine Lorraine....
I'm very fond of her singing, and she is well represented on my channel.
Have you had the opportunity to listent to Katherin Watson singing this air...But Lorraine Hunt Lieberson is very talentuous !
Yes I have, and I like her in the role, but Lorraine Hunt Lieberson is truly in a different league in my opinion.

I grew up with Heather Harper’s performance, which is still momentous in my opinion, but this is superlative singing.

Theodora is Handel's greatest oratorio. A possible contender is Jeptha.
For me, Theodora is without question Handel’s greatest oratorio. It was apparently also Handel's favorite of his oratorios.

She is huge singing Handel. I would have prefered, though, a rapider tempo.
What a loss
Definitely. She was taken from us tragically far too soon.
