It is likely true that athletes so driven to succeed have some demons they encounter along the way, whether in themselves or in those around them who have less interest in mental health that in performance. We're beginning to learn about the toxic environment created by some coaches and trainers. Kids who spiral into self-hatred because they are demeaned over the lack of success are victims of this so called pursuit of excellence. Finding balance isn't easy to do. Which is ultimately most important... winning the race at the price of mental health or liberating oneself from self-doubt and shame?

He doesn't display the attitude of a victim. He uses his own experiences to help others help themselves, esp. in regard to mental health.
