  • Today I am going to install the Nazgul and Sentient pickups from Seymour Duncan into a Schemer SGR 7 string guitar.
The guitar was really cheap and the pickups cost more than the guitar.
Do you hear a difference let me know in the comments?
When installing the pickups I had to modify the tabs on the new pickups by removing some material with a belt sander to get them to fit in the pickup cavity in the guitar.
One also interesting note was the bridge was not grounded in the guitar because of the coating on the bridge and bridge posts. I had to use sandpaper to remove some of the coating to get the bridge to make contact with the bridge post which was grounded to the central ground point in the electronics cavity. Now the guitar is dead silent.

YT algo got me here... I like those art deco lampshades a lot! And Schecters, and SD pickups as well. Thanks for the upload. I am all in favour of tinkering, though at an older age now, I try to plan a little more before I commit. My next "project" is to try out 1Meg pots to "brighten up the tone", wish me luck!

P.S. Thanks for the relatively speaking, clean tones as well. I knew the Nazgul and Sentient can function in other genres! Thanks 👍

If your gona change the tone pot you should try it out with the tone pot completly disconnected

IMO the pickups are just different not better/worse just a tad more note separation with the upgrade but not worth swapping out use the EQ on the amp or get a graphic equaliser. Great playing and improvising but would have been better on a six string as most people play these and could relate better.

Unless you are using only one or two bands far aparts you are degrading your signal by using a graphic equalizer. either use a parametric one or get a pickup that gets you closer to what you desire.

Hey thanks for the comment, I do feel I got a bit of an upgrade in the tonal quality of the guitar doing the swap. Would you like to share your experience upgrading pickups ?
