I Installed Pickups That Cost More Than The Guitar!
Today I am going to install the Nazgul and Sentient pickups from Seymour Duncan into a Schemer SGR 7 string guitar.
The guitar was really cheap and the pickups cost more than the guitar.
Do you hear a difference let me know in the comments?
When installing the pickups I had to modify the tabs on the new pickups by removing some material with a belt sander to get them to fit in the pickup cavity in the guitar.
One also interesting note was the bridge was not grounded in the guitar because of the coating on the bridge and bridge posts. I had to use sandpaper to remove some of the coating to get the bridge to make contact with the bridge post which was grounded to the central ground point in the...

    I am a big big believer in my best quality specialty guitar tool I currently own, a Fret Guru Dagger 2.0, a FANTASTIC fret crowning file and that is the key: it is a real file with teeth in a concave shape that cut the metal of the frets. The others are diamond grit. Yes hard as diamonds, they are tough , they remove material, they dont get full. But they remove the material by scratching and gouging it off, my meaning many passes of many grades of Micromesh to get those frets gleaming and playing like "buttah". Gimme the Dagger every day of the week.

    Nice, but you can only do that so many times before you risk breaking the truss rod. It's better to hit the root of the problem and just correct the neck. Since it's a 2 piece fretboard you could use the microwaved rice in a sock trick.

    IMO the pickups are just different not better/worse just a tad more note separation with the upgrade but not worth swapping out use the EQ on the amp or get a graphic equaliser. Great playing and improvising but would have been better on a six string as most people play these and could relate better.

    • @thomas.cloutier-guay
      @thomas.cloutier-guay 2 месяца назад

      Unless you are using only one or two bands far aparts you are degrading your signal by using a graphic equalizer. either use a parametric one or get a pickup that gets you closer to what you desire.

    • @MusicAndWood
      @MusicAndWood 4 месяца назад

      There may be bends in the wood that the truss rod can not fix. I would suggest taking it to a pro. The worst case scenario is you need to pull the frets, level the board, re fret, then fix the neck angle. Or replace the neck if it is a bolt on.

The only thing with them is I'd consider them hand pedals as I the video. I wouldn't really want to stomp on them too much. A friend of mine has the green wink wink one, ITS copy.
