Doom going from all these complex gadgets to spamming foot dive is pretty accurate to your average MvC player.
It's also pretty canon for Doom in comics. Started out as relying on gadgets and tricks and traps. Now wears an armour capable of shattering mountains. Comics

You know, I really support the crew gaining a hold of Death Battle for themselves. I am rooting for them. That being said, I can't wait for them to start making new content.
Lex Luthor is busy working on something while humming to himself in his advanced LexCorp laboratory when a sudden explosion catches his attention. He turns around to see levitating through the hole in the wall, a solitary figure in titanium armor and a cape. This uninvited guest was none other than Doctor Doom himself.
Lex: Oh? A visitor?
Doctor Doom descends down to explain his motives.
Doom: Mr. Luthor, your company has invaluable resources for the people of Latveria. I will be seizing them!
He pulls out a laser pistol to emphasize his point further. But Lex is not intimidated; instead, he exclaimed fond interest in the prospects of the European nation.
Lex: Latveria. What an exquisite place to start a corporatocracy!
Lex pulls out a laser gun of his own to defend himself before charging and firing the first shot. Doom sidesteps it and fires his own weapon before ducking return fire. Levitating upwards to get the high ground, Doom aims and shoots down. Lex dashed forward, avoiding the laser fire to shorten the gap. He then aims his gun steadily ahead of him and fires another beam ahead of him as his opponent lands. Just as Doom aims, the beam knocks the pistol out of his hand. In retaliation, he raises his palm and fires a powerful blast, which Lex counters with another beam.
Doom: You wretch!
Lex: Pathetic.
The opposing streams of energy appear to merge and then dissipate for a brief second before combusting into a large concussive explosion that rocks the entire lab. As the dust settles, neither villain is anywhere to be seen. A capsule in the lab then opens up and out jumps the real Lex Luthor. Using the Mother Box technology, he conjured up his warsuit while walking amongst the scattered remains of the "Luthor" that started the fight; a robot decoy designed to look just like him. His foe teleports back in, showing he too survived the explosion. Doom observes Lex's trickery as both stand, ready to fight again while dissing banter at each other.
Doom: Hmph. A mechanical replica?
Lex: It's called a Lexbot, you knuckle-dragging buffoon.
Doom: Its design is rather ingenious. Not as ingenious as mine, of course. But enough talk, let us end these charades.
Lex: With pleasure.
Luthor unsheathes his gauntlet blades and leaps in for a strike. But he is blocked by Doom's summoned Techno-virus staff. Doctor Doom lands some hits while dodging the reach of the blades before finally shattering them and knocking Lex back. Doom readies himself and leaps to finish the fight, but Lex takes advantage of his newly gained distance to dispel the staff's virus and activates a barrier. It successfully traps Victor, rendering him flat and whirling him helplessly around and around in a two-dimensional space carousel.
Doom: (distorted) What is this confounded contraption?!
Lex springs and exits the trap he had set and proceeds to trash talk his foe yet again.
Lex: Two-dimensional morphographic technology. I haven't perfected it, but it's more than enough to exterminate an imbecile like you!
Lex aims and fires an energy beam at Doom. However, Doom manages to free his arm and throw a time-shift bomb, which activates just before hitting the beam.
Lex: -more than enough to exterminate an imbecile like you!
The beam is fired once again. However, right as it hits the trap, Doom teleports out and reappears floating behind Lex, wiping the smugness clean off his face.
Lex: What?
Doom: Fool! You fell for my time-shift bomb! Now, Foot Dive!
Victor outstretches himself before dropping down with a Foot Dive, landing a direct hit on Luthor's bald head, knocking him off balance.
Doom: Foot Dive!
But Doom has only started, as he delivers more kicks to batter Lex about the room.
Doom: Foot Dive!
Lex catches on the pattern and dodges an incoming dropkick to get behind his attacker.
Doom: Foot-
Irritated, Lex strikes a brutal fist that plants Doom to the ground before lifting him by the foot and thrashing him about. After another punch, he tosses his quarry into the air for another beam blast.
Lex: Fool!
But it fails, as Victor prepares his next plan of attack; taking the rubble in the environment around and firing them at Luthor, while expanding the stones in size until they become large boulders. Lex bats away two stones but is eventually overtaken and incapacitated to the wall by the rocks. This gives Doom the opening to land a powerful, electrical fist.
Doom: Got you.
With one mighty uppercut, Doom releases Lex from his rocky prison and sends him backwards, the warsuit smashed into pieces around him.
Doom: What a farce.
However, Lex soon gets up to his feet and forms another warsuit as if nothing had happened. His cocky smile matches Doom's evident shock.
Doom: I-Impossible!
Lex charges forward, grabs Doom at his neck, and charges for a chest cannon fire.
Lex: Impossible? Peh! That word has no meaning for someone like me! What about you?!
Doctor Doom charges his whole body with electricity and repels off from Luthor's grasp. Lex charges forward and throws in several hook fists at Victor before blasting another chest cannon beam at Victor, pushing him away. With his suit's power at 3%, Doom scans Lex and identifies his foe's own power source, the Mother Box.
Doom: That box. It's... marvelous... And wasted! On YOUR incompetence!
Lex charges forward and punches at Victor, only for Doom to grab Luthor's right arm and uses his implanted cosmic power siphon to drain energy from the warsuit, recharging his suit to a power percentage shown to be over 2712%. Victor then pushes Lex away with an energy blast, immediately followed by a magical giant hand grabbing the flying body of Lex, slamming him to another pile of concrete rumble. Victor dashes forward towards Lex, whose warsuit is completely broken and fallen off from his body.
Doom: Pitiful. What kind of a man are you?
As Victor throws a punch at Lex, Lex catches the right fist of Doom with his left hand, his eyes glowing in red. Luthor uppercuts Doom to the ceiling.
Lex: A superman.
Lex punches the body of Victor through several ceilings and, as he is still flying to the sky, Lex flies up and drags the body of Doom back to the worn and torn laboratory, causing Doom to crash into the street in front of the LexCorp building, which simultaneously knocks its logo down. Luthor proceeds to throw several more punches at Doctor Doom.
Lex: Still hiding behind this hideous mask, tin man? Let's show your true face the light of day!
Just as Luthor reaches for Doom's mask, Victor uses the Ovoid mind transfer technique to switch bodies with him.
Doom (in Lex's body): Don't you see it?
Lex (in Doom's body): What!?
Doom (in Lex's body): That mask is my true face.
Doom proceeds to use Lex Luthor's own hand to punch through his chest before swapping bodies again, just as Lex begins to feel the pain of his own hand impaling him.
Lex: N-No... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Doctor Doom charges up with an energy spike and shoots Lex into his own company logo, where several worn rebar spikes impale him. Victor throws an energy claw blast for one last time, slashing Lex's pinned body into several pieces and tearing down the whole LexCorp building in a giant explosion. The victorious Victor turns around with folded hands and applauds his new stolen powers.
Doom: This power, it's like that of the gods. (scoffs) Beneath me.

I actually came up with this matchup back in middle school. And yes, it was just because they were green-wearing supervillains for a Marvel VS DC fight. I never had much faith in the idea, but I’m glad to see it happened and blew my expectations away. And before I forget… Foot Dive!
