These jackets have different fits and are meant for different uses. Rab and Mountain Equipment have all their jackets in an alpine fit, you can't get mant layers under them, the Patagonia triolet and the Arcteryx have a regular fit which is much more roomy. I know this because i've spent hours trying them all on

Bought a Trespass jacket a couple months ago. Id avoid whilst chest stays dry the arms just fully leak in. They claim to be up to 8000mm waterproof which is BS.
Gorewear shakedry is still hardshell, but it is by far the best at regulating heat vs other rainproof materials. But yes, it still is no where near as breathable as a softshell
Hi I’m just wondering what the differences between the Makalu and the Lhotse are. Why would you choose the Lhotse over the Makalu, justifying the price etc ??? Cheers
I want the opposite of sustainable, can i get it made from endangered animal skin and petroleum product, and manufacturerd with coal burning energy source? Made in America would be a plus as well
And yet none of them are waterproof because waterproof jackets generally speaking are a huge marketing scam. You're genuinely more protected with a bin liner.
Absolutely right! I’ve had a few very expensive high end jackets and they all failed. All supposedly breathable but they aren’t. They are just overhyped, overpriced BS.
All “technical” jackets are rubbish. I’ve had a few; the taped seals fail and they don’t keep you dry for long. The water repellent coating wears off and you can forget about them being “breathable.” Gore Tex or any “tex” simile is a massive con. You either get wet from the rain or wet from sweat and condensation. And those nice little fleecy bits by the neck opening just wick the rain inside the jacket. If you really want to stay dry, get a jacket that is physically impermeable to water that has lots of vents. Wear wool underneath as that has natural anti bacterial properties and breathes unlike man made plastic fibres that stink in no time. Don’t get sucked into the marketing BS of these outdoor jackets, they are overhyped and not fit for purpose. Coming from someone who has hiked multiple entire days in jackets like these.
Sorry, but this is not at all my experience. I’ve had both Patagonia and Arcteryx shells. Both performed brilliantly. I always stayed dry and provided the outside environment was cool, they both would breathe surprisingly well.
