Holy crap. Not one drop of snake oil. It is so rare to get quality information on this subject. 'Helpful' does not do justice. It is enlightening and and extremely encouraging to know there are people like this working towards a viable treatment. This is the sort of research that changes lives. Every step forward, everything that adds to the body of knowledge on this subject is laudable.

I have tinnitus for over 5 years. Somatic for sure as I can modulate it moving my jaw and neck. Most of the time it is very loud.
It totally ruined my life. No help from any specialist. It turned on fight or fly syndrome in me. Very strong anxiety. Its constant and debilitating, emotionally painful. Hard to start each day. However I have young kids so the show must go on. I cant give up. I hope they find something before I do. Stay strong my brothers and sisters. Please remember you are not alone. There is many like us. On the happy note even though its tough I still run family and pretty serious international business. So yes! We can do it! Its just harder.

You need to change mentality, it did not at all ruin your life. You remain able to be with family and work, this is great! I had severe nerve pain AND high T for 10 years, and managed to keep living , before 2 worsening T events made my life truly ruined and unbearable, living in constant torture and nightmare. Anyway, still hope you find relief for your struggles

The problem is, the medical profession works like a closed shop union. If you are an outsider to the medical professions, you stand little chance of working with them. Even if you had the solution to cure tinnitus, they would rebuff you. (As said by one of their own colleagues and was proven to be the case) If you think this writing is loaded, you’d be right, but don’t ask.
      One day!

I had a concussion in 2021 with tons of various therapies for healing, one year I woke up with tinnitus. I didn’t have it before. After it wasn’t going away I started working with my Chiropractor and there’s a reduction in the tinnitus. I think there needs to be other treatments explored for tinnitus. I keep a journal and determined to found out the cause. I was also told from naturopaths and Chinese medicine practitioners to get lots of REST, avoid stress, fried spicy foods and alcohol.

Very helpful. Two things: after surgeries (anesthesia) my tinnitus was always temporarily gone. General and Iv sedation. On a day to day basis, I think of tinnitus like depth of field in a camera lens setting. I listen to sounds in the foreground with tinnitus existing in the background. That requires a bit of practice but then becomes automatic. If I THINK about my tinnitus, it moves to the foreground. Sometimes a continuous high pitched rushing sound and sometimes like sitting in an aviary at the zoo. Good luck to everyone.

Yes, this was very Helpful - and hopeful, as there is almost never discussion of research and a cure, just ways of learning to live with tinnitus. Fwiw, as someone who was exposed to loud sounds in my youth, I would also love to see more preventative information shared with the general public to do whatever possible to limit the cases in future populations.

Dear Dr.ben, discussion with Dr.dirk de rider is very useful and also easily understandable for tinitus patients.
I would like to share my experience with tinitus. I got this around 2020 November after I suffered from covid. In the beginning it was somewhat bearable but I used to be more anxious to know the reason. I approached audiologist ent surgeon but the improvement is very less, moreover sometimes it is unbearable.
The mask music available in youtube is working
I noticed that I will get in the morning after wakeup.
Thanks to both of you ,let's hope a specific treatment will come in near future for treating tinitus

I have Tinnitus for 4 years and counting. I can modulate it with jaw, ear etc movement. It’s too damn loud right now sometime I think I can trade everything for a true silence.
I willingly will volunteer for any human trial, medicine, injection, surgery anything you name. I just want this to a low level sound that's at least bearable.
    Can you guys help me?

nobody cares, they only work for the money. I strongly believe gathering a group of severe sufferers and focusing on them would be the first step to actually help people the fastest. Shore has been working for 10 years and she is the best bet so far.... way too slow

I’ve recently had vertigo and then tinnitus followed.
I put an ice cold flannel on my neck and to my amazement the ringing stopped 11:12 with in seconds. Unfortunately it only lasted for about a minute. But I thought it was worth mentioning.

Very helpful, also encouraging. I've found there is a definite 'threshold' where the perceived tinnitus becomes so dominant that it has a undeniable affect on my abiltity to function. Any and/or many treatments which keep it below this threashold are worth investigating.. PLUS if anyone in UK has received any positive NHS treatment, please reply. Thanks.

Have had tinnitus for almost a year. I have variable tinnitus two to three days a week tinnitus free or very low
tinnitus the rest of the week moderate to very bothersome tinnitus. For me, I think pressure changes in the ear make me tinnitus-free.
If I take a nasal spray when I am tinnitus-free, the tinnitus comes within a short time. Haven't heard of anyone else having tinnitus like this.
I also have Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) which can cause tinnitus.
I can no longer drink alcohol as the last time I drank alcohol I had 4 weeks of severe worsening of my tinnitus probably due to MCAS.

This has been helpful. Mine started 3 weeks ago and I might have been lucky finding this channel early.
I’ve been doing anxiety and stress reduction with mindfulness and breathing exercises, combined with stopping coffee and masking/habituation for around two weeks now and my tinnitus has come down from 7-8 to 1-2 in such a short time.
I do suspect I have several of these sub types, because I do have somatic tinnitus, since it does change with my neck position or by clenching my teeth.
But this one has a higher frequency, almost like an electrical sound. And at times this goes away and I’m left with this mild hizz that’s constant. And doesn’t seem to change by neck position etc.
But weirdly enough I never experience both at the same time.

It's great to hear that you've found some relief with mindfulness and other techniques! Since you've noticed a connection between clenching your teeth and your tinnitus, it would be a good idea to let your dentist know about this. They might be able to help you address the clenching, which could potentially reduce your tinnitus symptoms even further.

I am a female that in 1979. I wasn't feeling well. I fainted with upper hives came out on my upper body & as A PACKAGE ringing in the ears came down with Chronic Fatigue syndrome/migraines/Fibromyalgia/and dizziness, & some days Vertigo.... Went to Los Angels Ear institute. Then again 1982. No, Doctor could help me. I raised two sons & continued working to raise them because I did not want to live in a car. A 6 yr.old & 12 yr. old.
FORTY FOUR years ahead now.... November to Dec. 2021. Migraines/ headaches were lasting 2 to 3 weeks, but it turned out to be Covid... My son took me to the hospital ... Not knowing I had Covid in Dec. 2021. I was hospitalized right then for almost 3 weeks. Now, I have LONG-COVID BRAIN FOG for 14 months. I thought I had dementia & had a MRI NO Dementia but I get lost driving & the RINGING IS a HIGHER pitch. Doctors have not come up with any solutions & now we are in 2023. Super sensitive with any meds, & alcohol plus light & to much noise. It's. all exhausting with all of this package. My biggest Wish would be to be SUPER HEALTHY because that is the most important thing in this world. I am 77 yrs. old now.
I wish more Doctors would know more like Dr. De Ridder....
