This far into it, I have to say LiS was practically MADE for Johnny. They seem so overjoyed (though sometimes tortured) playing. Thank you for this play through!
That was an amazing episode. Full thanks to the game dev team that put the LARP together and full thanks to Johnny for playing it so well. Quick thought about LiS2: From my anecdotal evidence (myself and other vagrants basically) I've noticed that if one changed schools a lot as a kid, spent their adolescence/young adult-hood on the road, or both, you tend to vibe with that series more. I love the small town ones for their writing and overall awesomeness but LiS2 was the one that actually spoke to me with the snap judgments and instant friendships (frequently VERY poorly thought out) of a more transient lifestyle. Guess I'm just saying they captured life on the road as well as they did life in small towns it just depends on if that speaks to you or not.
Johnny, my girlfriend was in the other room while I was watching this episode. At one point said she heard me giggling at some of your commentary and that it was a sound of "pure joy" that lifted her heart to hear. So your work is bringing happiness even to those who don't watch!
I think we all knew Johnny would love this part, but seeing the pure joy on their face is awesome! This was easily my favorite chapter of the game, you can really see the devs had a ton of fun with it.
So glad you played this one! I hope you do a series on Double Exposure! Whatever the critics say, I loved it! The facial animations are even more impressive, and Max has really grown as a character!
I love how Jonny was overthinking the question about the hotter distraction. I did as well for the same reasons. Also the LARP was one of my favorite sections and I loved to see how much they enjoyed it.
Even with that being said, however, my reaction was exactly the same as the one that Johnny made when they admitted Ryan!Snake looked cute and got the bite animation in response at 01:29:37!
The ‘who should be the distraction’ choice is the only one that I took at face value and chose Steph in three seconds flat, because who is the hotter distraction? No choice here.
Ryan is beautiful and charming, and if it was him against any other man? Him in a heartbeat, but Steph is just the capital-B Best. I definitely have a major squish (ace crush) on all three of the main cast.
@@thembill8246 Oh, I've heard of having a squish but I just assumed it was a euphemism for a crush, I didn't realise it was an ace crush specifically. TIL!
I enjoyed this sooooo much - just bought/downloading this so i can enjoy this bit. (not that it wasn't great before) Thank you so much Johnny for doing this. Watching you enjoy this as much as I am is such a delight.
I'm not sure I could deal with the anxiety of making all these decisions, even in fiction. Loving the watch though and following along with the thought process. And that LARP, so good. Thanks Johnny.
More snooping should've been done in those files. Not that the game really lets you take advantage of figuring it out, but it really paints a picture. Also the missed memories that are right there kiiiiill me.
Also, I love how the normally very naturalistic rhythm of the voice acting goes full Elder Scrolls once the LARP kicks in. The attention to detail in this just kills me
Almost as much of a joy seeing you enjoy the LARP as I had playing it myself. And what do you mean the DnD session almost didn't make it into Before the Storm?! Outrageous!
I am living vicariously through your videos (and Aoife’s) since I can’t play this game. LiS is literally the only game I play haha and I can’t even choose a favourite because they’re all so special to me in different ways. This is the first game where I’m so confused with the love interests because both are perfect. So I think they should just be poly and all date. It’s unfair we gotta choose one. I think my heart was broken the most by LiS2 though. Probably because I was hyper aware the whole time that the Diaz brothers were kids and the racism, Sean’s eye injury, the brothers being separated in the end, hit me really hard. Also maybe because I’ve been watching too much Supernatural idk. Thanks for these videos!
It's been interesting seeing you an Aoife play this separately this round. Haven't seen her episode 3 yet but a lot of the choices you made in 1 and 2 were the same (but not all). Been eagerly watching both! Also listen I don't know if the game will let you do it but I'm just putting it out there: Alex-Steph-Ryan polycule? (Also every place you've questioned if you're overthinking, I've done the same as I was watching to it's fantastic. LOL)
2:19:16 - "We also have a text." This is why those Boomers are always complaining about us being on our phones and not focused on important tasks Johnny... 😁
Nobody seems to notice that when you're looking at Diane's phone, and it starts the conversation between her and Pike, her keychain changes from a cross to love heart. There's some other snooping you can do to find that she has a crush on Pike but I think this is the first direct evidence of it.
I actually am quite surprised that Johnny has never done a LARP. Not to say I have because I haven't but it for some reason seemed a thing he might have done.
Not that you'll read this comment, 2-and-a-half years later, but I noticed that at the end of the 3rd episode of this game, Alex discovers a new use of her power. Just like at the end of the 3rd episode of the original LiS, where Max discovered the ability to travel through photographs. Was this deliberate on Deck Nine's part, or just coincidence?
Hello, I absolutely did read your comment! It's an interesting question - I think to an extent it can be explained by the conventions of story structure, but I wouldn't necessarily rule it out as a reference to the first LiS either. All I know for sure is Steph forever
@@JohnnyChiodini I WAS about to say something like "you've just restored my faith in humanity by replying to my comment", but that's too much cliché. Just know that right now, you've absolutely made my day. love love
I chose not to remind Eleanor about Gabe's death. Having had a family member pass from Alzheimer's, I know it can often be better to let them continue to live in peace with their delusions/forgotten traumas, and not try to correct them, and as a result, Riley found out. I was genuinely very surprised that it was such an unpopular choice, but it's one I would make every single time
I chose the same. As a granddaughter of a dementia patient and currently my partner's parent as well... I get the ethics behind that she deserves to know, but I saw how constantly having to be reminded that they don't remember anything really plummet their self esteem. It really grinds them down to feeling worthless, stupid and depressed.
the results screen for this chapter is easily the most interesting so far. there are so many possibilities that i have no idea how theyre caused, or how they play out. (also thanks for making me feel bad for making diana angry)
Why do so many people not understand that the choice between Ryan and Steph is asking about who Alex wants to romance? It literally has nothing to do with Diane.
Diane is clearly bisexual as is Ryan (I'm assuming). I also love the Red (Steph), Blue (Ryan) and Yellow (Alex) colour scheme going on with their clothes.
Steph: "you're both fu%4ing with me right?" Me: literally or metaphorically? Steph: dirty grin Me: seriously though who could say no to fu%$ing with you Steph? the majority of people who are self concious ironically have no reason to be...they tend to be the ones who are very good looking or attractive.
I feel sad for my boi Ryan. Everyone I watched choose Steph even though I think Ryan is as attractive as Steph if not more. And majority of people just handwave him aside as if it's not even a competition. Every single time my heart breaks for my big hearted rugged mountain man ;C
A world where the evil corporate overlords offer competitive pay, 401k, PTO, medical, dental AND vision? What is this fever dream utopia, and where do I sign up?
actually not EVERYONE is gay in Arcadia Bay...or even a LIS game...every MAJOR character is gay: Max was bisexual, Chloe was bisexual and so was rachel...Nathan was straight, warren is straight, ethan was straight...in fact most guys are straight....except Sean who was bisexual because you were playing as him. in LIS any character you play as is automatically bisexual because otherwise your choice to decide their sexuality is removed and thus the game becomes pointless...the only character has openly admitted to being PURE gay is Steph...that i can remember at least. all the other characters are either bisexual or straight.
Now even more sure Jed's the big bad of the season: a) the foreshadowing of the about-face in the LARP b) Rhea being connected to the 2008 "heroic rescue" (which will turn out to be something else). It's great storytelling - it feels solvable, not predictable and mostly because of the sharp twist in LiS 1.
you act like taking away charlottes anger was a first...it wasn't...you did the same for ethan's fear and steph's sadness...just not on the same level. the problem is charlotte's anger is WAY more intense. sorry i'm not badmouthing or anything...just saying...consider that perhaps there is a reason you have a choice. i don't know if you noticed but Leena is the current CEO of Typhon...the thing is Typhon are a MAJOR mining company...i mean do you really expect most of them to care about a small mountain town like Haven.
"We just need 3 more gems of power, Arthur, and then the whole kingdom will see my plan in action!"
I keep seeing this comment and giggling every time
Two years on I just saw this comment again and had another giggle
This LARP is wonderful. I'm giggling so hard, and watching Johnny's joy is just doubling mine.
This far into it, I have to say LiS was practically MADE for Johnny. They seem so overjoyed (though sometimes tortured) playing. Thank you for this play through!
1:43:04 "Now _that's_ how you play a Bard!" Exactly. Playing a Bard is the best excuse to flirt with the DM.
That was an amazing episode. Full thanks to the game dev team that put the LARP together and full thanks to Johnny for playing it so well. Oh to live in a small town with a bar that lets you take it over for role play
The LARP was amazing. This is my favourite LiS let's play so far.
Forget fan service, this episode is Johnny service.
Johnny's reaction to the LARP is 10/10 *chef's kiss* ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ would watch again in a heartbeat.

I love that you got so stuck on solving that one girl's earworm when Steph was sitting right there

I'm here grinning like an idiot watching the sheer joy on Johnny's face during the LARP! Great stuff!!
1:08:30 I had to stop and have a good laugh about this. It's especially apt considering Square Enix is the publisher. Love it!
Best time for a coffee break ever! :D

57:10 yup only weeding today, overdid the gummies the day before
I am LOVING this playthrough, and seeing Johnny's absolute joy at the game - I'm right there with them. This is freaking great.
Also, I love how the normally very naturalistic rhythm of the voice acting goes full Elder Scrolls once the LARP kicks in. The attention to detail in this just kills me
Ok, one more - also love what a good illustration this game is of the fact that grief is not a linear process. Oof.
1:43:00 *Alex winks at Steph.* "Now *THAT'S* how you play a Bard."
Not throwing a little shade on our Half-Orc friend, are we Johnny?

Johnny slowly realising the game is actually asking you to choose a love interest not who should Diane hook up with was amazing
Johnny: Now that's how you play a Bard!
Luke: Challenge Accepted...
Late to the party, once I've had a chance to play. The whole time I played this ep I thought "omg Johnny will love this."
I liked Arkanoid a lot, anyone else beat the alien thing at the end and like double the high score? Bummed we can't play the racing game

Why do you actively avoid the memory collectibles?
Anyone else get an Egbert vibe from the River Serpent?
