Overall, it looks like Rlaarlo did a great job designing the AK-917, and an even better job listening to the feedback provided by those who received the pre-production units. I received mine...carbon fiber RTR...a few days ago, and I've already run three packs through it...primarily for testing for my YT video...and, I have to admit, I'm impressed. The car tracks straight as an arrow...virtually no slop. Btw, yes, the Tx is a Dumbo RC Tx...not a 'great' Tx, but one of the best available to manufacturers when it comes to radios for RTRs. Although I do like the red/black body, I just had to have the orange/blue, due to its similarity to the Gulf Racing design (I have obtained 1/10 Gulf Racing decals, which will be going on soon). As for the 'alternate' battery strap problem, my plan is to try and mount a secondary plate resting on top of the chassis, which would have two channels along the bottom for the straps, and held in place through the screw holes that normally hold the stock battery holding hardware. So far, my only complaints are that the chromed exhaust was broken upon opening the package (something several others have noted, and the chassis protector (they call it a "film barrier") was missing. I have also contacted Rlaarlo's customer service (and, yes, they have already replied back) to report these problems, to which they are sending replacements. As they also know I'm a RUclipsr, they've asked me to contact them if anything else is discovered, so as to make additional improvements in future production runs. Speaking of YT, my original plan was to get the AK-917 running, and filming done the day it arrived, or the following day...but, due to a 2-day trip driving school kids to Universal Studios, filming got delayed. Should have video up later today...but, I know mine still won't be as polished as yours. Although I end my videos with "Mahalo" (Hawaiian)...to you, I'll say "Cheers".
They are nice looking cars, with a good pre sale price. My metal roller turned up last week, the other carbon roller I ordered should be delivered in the next week or so time. I got 1 car in blue & the other in red, I understand the radio that comes with the rtr has been made for them by Dumbo. Also if you want to fit the smallest high speed spur gear, you need to fit the larger pinion. But even then you cant get the motor adjusted close enough to the spur, you have to mod the motor mount slots to move the motor closer to the spur to get the mesh.
Tomley destroyed it already. Its made decently. I like the carbon. Wonder about the durability of the plastics. Two color might indicate two compounds. Hope none of it is 3D printed.

This is a speedrun car. Just curious, but, why would you be wanting to make the car as slow as possible?
Depends on what motor you are running as to what gear you need but can always run a bigger pinion
