I think this song is one of the most serious and meaningful of all. I was asked to lead a song back when I was a young man. I chose this song. That congregation did not know the song. I sung this song by myself, there at the front of the church. I will always remember that day. I thank all of you for this beautiful rendition.

Undoubtedly a phenomenal vocalist, but I can't help but feel that David's singing is all for show, whereas Guy Penrod's seems to come from a sincere love for Christ. For this reason, I would much prefer to listen to Guy.
David Phelps is a classically trained singer. His voice has been taught to perform like that. Has a good voice. Guy Penrod has worked his way up from a background singer in Nashville. I have met Guy three times and he is so humble. His love for Christ shows in his actions, his life and his voice.
I have always love this beautiful hymn!!! Just think all Christ left to come to us as Emmanuel!!!! Makes me very low and humble!!!! Such a tremendous sacrifice for "dust" that we are!! Such great love held Him there!!! God knew that was the only way to atone for our great sins!!! How thankful I am!!! My sins are gone forever!!! Oh, that I had not wasted so many years before I got serious about serving Him!!!!

I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (March 30), I attended worship at a local Presbyterian Church. We sang this as the Hymn of Dedication. On a personal note, I saw the Gaithers at the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, SC in March 2004.
