"Last mile logistics" is something the robovan could excel at, taking pallets of goods day and night to retailer's (from warehouses) would make a big difference
Excellent video. Was wondering when a video dedicated to the cybervan would land in my queue. Unlike others in the comments, I'm not laughing. I'd be a non car owner in a heartbeat once both the cybervan and cyber cabs were being used. I used to love to drive when I was young but lately, not so much. Getting driven everywhere for less than the cost of car ownership would be excellent.
I semi agree with your reasoning on size differences, a third or second reason for smaller size is that they see transportation moving away from a hub and spokes model towards a peer to peer more direct model, much because of dramatically lower costs per mile
Sucking the mass transport vehicle to the ground and taking corners with high lateral G forces would be extremely uncomfortable for the occupants It would also add quite a bit of wear to the remaining wear components such as suspension bushings and tires. Banked corners would be a simpler solution and possibly feasible within the confines of a tunnel.
The Robovan is way too big to fit in a Boring Tunnel (current Tunnel Size). There are videos of the cybertruck driving through the tunnel and it barely cleared the edges. Hyperloop vacuum is to make sure there is no air in front of the vehicle to slow it down. Creating a vacuum underneath the vehicle not only increases resistance but does nothing to move the air out of the way. The super low ground clearance of the van was accomplished by an adjustable air suspension. Without it, it would never be able to drive normal, uneven, roads. This is not to say the Robovan is such a crazy idea. It just doesn't have the benefits you mention in this video. The tight turns in the Boring tunnels in Las Vegas might be on the map but the tunneling machine won't be able to dig tunnels with tight turns.
They can also just make a smaller Robovan to fit the tunnels. Given the fleet size for the LV Loop is going to be in the small hundreds of vehicles, it doesn't make too much sense to optimize a high production vehicle specifically for that use.
I wouldn’t feel comfortable boarding a bus such as this with random strangers, without anyone supervising. I would definitely not like my kids to board.
Not all of us want to own a CyberCab. Also, not all of us want to ride with up to 19 other people taking curves at speeds higher than 10-12 mph. The way I see the Robovan functioning for mass transit is people will ask for a ride from A to B. The network will figure out which Robovan has capacity and is closest and it will add that rider to its path-routing algorithm. The Robovan shows up where you are, picks you up, drives everyone to where they want to be dropped off along an efficient route, and within 5-10 minutes you arrive. Depending on the size of the coverage area, there could be 4-20 or more Robovans circulating around town 24/7, with several being charged and cleaned. Gets rid of the giant bus because it does not need a driver or a bathroom break or food. Most city buses seem to run only half full, so a Robovan is plenty, and no one has to miss the Robovan pickup, or wait for a half hour or more for the ICE bus to show up at a specific place. The elderly (**waves howdy**) would not have to run the risks of walking to pre-ordained bus stops, but instead could wait for the Robovan to show up at their doorstep, the phone app chiming when it is 60 seconds away. My two Bits of bitcoin. Cheers, y'all.

EV mass transit buses are also a better solution for dense urban areas because diesel engine buses are built and tuned to run most efficiently at continuous highway speeds. Urban transit buses travel at much lower speeds and stop frequently. Basically, diesel buses are designed to run, yet dense urban transit buses crawl and stop during service. This means that efficiency is greatly reduced and emissions and maintenance are both increased when using diesel buses to serve dense urban areas. Electric buses have regenerative braking and motors that provide strong low end torque making them much better suited to the crawl and stop duty cycle of urban transit buses. Vehicle emissions are also a greater concern in densely populated areas.
