As a mom of 1 kid, I personally don't enjoy watching how other moms struggle. I find it more helpful to watch videos where moms with more on their plate do ALL THE THINGS cause it makes me feel like I can do it as well. Eases my stress and helps me to not overthink things.

She talks about having a mother who also kept the house to a high standard, so as someone who was raised in a much different house hold its extremely inspiring and educational to see Sarah share her life. Yes same! If you only see other moms struggling, then you start thinking that's normal, but it doesn't have to be that way (some days but not all!). I'm not making sourdough bread (I have an 8 week old baby) but it's still really nice to see that things can become calmer.

If you’re watching this video and feel that Sarah’s lifestyle is unrealistic and unattainable for you, keep this in mind. There is a lot that Sarah has that makes being an intense homemaker realistic and attainable for her:
    1. Sarah said her family’s income is from her RUclips work so I’m guessing her husband is home with her. They’re able to tag team together all day. That may not be the case for you.
    2. Again, her income comes from being a homemaker. For Sarah, decluttering her closet and making money are one and the same. That may not be the case for you.
    3. She says the home she grew up in is similar to the home she keeps. This tells me these organization and cleaning habits of hers were instilled in her from her youth. This may not be the case for you.
    4. Many women struggle with mental illnesses that make even taking care of themselves a challenge, let alone taking care of a home and family. That may be you.
The rest of us are doing the best we can with what we’ve got and that is amazing!! Celebrate yourself and what you’re able to do. You’re doing a great job!!

    • @biza2571

Yes, you made some good points. For me her lifestyle is not attainable because costs of living in my country are so high that even without overcomsuption both wife and husband must work full time to afford basic needs and I'm not coming from rich background. Then, homeschooling is allowed but only in close cooperation with public schools and you must follow core curriculum prepared by the government, so even in such scenario you have limited control over the education of your children. Also, in my culture husband helps at home if he throws away trash once a week and women have to do like everything. 😰 I'm fighting with this in case of my husband. He is a good person and I love him dearly. He is trying his best but it is really hard when he has had literally no single example of a man helping at home in his whole life and almost everyone keeps telling him he does more than enough because he does simple things like doing grocery shopping from time to time and he was tought that helping at home is emasculating. 🤣 This is why it tiny bit annoys me that Sarah refuses to acknowledge simple things like her money and the help she receives and instead suggests she is super intense homemaker and you are not if your life is different or you may be spiritually weak or not motivated enough and to me she comes off a little bit tone-deaf. I also have never seen hate comments on this. Only comments asking for honesty which for me, there is not much in this video. It is only my suspicion that she just prefers not to say things which are against the brand of this channel which is fine. Or maybe she is honest and really sees it that way and I'm biased due to my experience. 🙂 Still, I love her and her content.

I feel like you explained it better than she even did haha I see the social media side of it though, by creating something nearly perfect you are setting fire to the flame. If you have that sort of position and influence I can see why some moms dont feel as adequate. Its always good to separate yourself from what you see online and connect with moms/people in your area that give you a more realistic perspective on the overall struggles many in the community have. I think like you said her situation is special and specific that makes it easier for her to keep her home clean and get tasks done.

@@kickinitwithjess honestly, it didn’t seem to me like she was trying to acknowledge these things that make it possible for her to be so good at homemaking. It seemed like she just kept saying, “this is just who I am!” Like she just IS a gifted homemaker and other women are not. Which is why I wanted to comment and acknowledge these things! But yes, as viewers, we shouldn’t expect our lives to look like hers at all.

Yes, they could be involved but it’s not the same. I also don’t feel right about leaving my baby/toddlers to cry because I need to finish the dishes or mop the floor. I get 1 chance to raise my kids. Sarah can literally film herself doing errands, cleaning and organizing her house and it creates income for her while being something she genuinely enjoys. So don't beat yourself up if doing household chores takes several, unrewarded hours on top of your job outside the house and therefore doesn't happen as often/"intensely".

I get what you’re saying. But saying Sarah can just film herself do errands and house shores and make money from it, takes away from all the hard work of planning, editing, marketing, financial work and all the other stuff that goes into creating a successful RUclips account. It’s not like her videos make themselves and that an account on RUclips just automatically gains followers.

  • @veronicalewis1894

I think it’s also important to remember that this is your job. To the people who are envious or upset, this is her full time job. She is a homemaker/RUclipsr - making content for her channel as a direct reflection of her life. Other vloggers who work as nurses/businesswomen/etc. devote their time elsewhere and may have seemingly “unrealistic” standards in other areas of their life. It’s of no use to compare yourself to others. For as much as Sarah devotes time to making her house perfect, I devote myself to other things and make them perfect - and that’s okay.

Absolutely! You see these youtubers doing fitness tutorials, or personal trainers who spend ALL DAY working out and making those videos, and they have a perfect toned body, muscles etc. And we might look at that and think, how can I ever get there?!
The point is, most of us have other jobs. We don't have 12 hours to devote to cleaning the house, or working out, because we have different careers. Sarah chose this, she has been blessed in it, and it's what she _does!_ That's [partly] why her house is so immaculate, she has time to organise things, & the family life appears to run so smoothly. If we gave up our jobs and were paid to stay home, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be so unattainable to keep a pristine house after all!!!

I think also people say it’s unrealistic because they might want the type of lifestyle that Sarah has and they become jealous so they look towards her negatively. Of course you can’t do it ALL every single day, but that doesn’t mean you have to make someone else feel bad because they do, and I’m sure even Sarah has days where she feels like she hasn’t done enough just like she stated in her video. People just need to understand whether you laid in bed all day today or you cleaned the entire house spotless, you did enough because you did what your body and mind were telling you to do. No matter what, you are enough and you have done enough! No need to think negatively and put someone else down.

That's sad people think your life is "unrealistic" and "unattainable." It absolutely is through living intentionally and only keeping items you need. Minimalism or mindful living is truly life changing and allows you to focus on making time for what matters most to you. Rather than focusing on how your lifestyle is "unrealistic," they should focus on how they can change their own mindset so they don't criticize others for how they live.

Yes, there’s the whole other side of RUclips with editing and branding, etc. Her husband ALSO works with her on that end so they are a team, which makes things easier I would imagine. Having both parents work from home at the same job that essentially requires them to film their daily lives but in a way they can monetize their daily life… why would anyone compare themselves to a successful mom/homemaking channel?

Yes. Modern people are not too fond at the idea that there are such things as ideals. We like living knowing and seeking to only serve our Lower Will/s. It reminds of some aspects of the “body positivity” movement where people get mad when someone they looked up to decides to lose weight. It’s an uncomfortable reminder of an ideal (need to exercise and be healthy) that can be forgotten in certain circles once we’re accustomed to the comfortability of doing very little accompanied with a delusion of greatness. ( no hate, as I also struggle with my weight)

I'm 44 a divorced (when my kids were under 4) SAHM of 3 who lives 15min outside Boston. My oldest who is Autistic is now 15. My son 13yr is borderline. I've moved to many times to count (married in NC heart of the Bible belt) I've experienced the loss of my dad and my mom is now showing her age. My house is always pristine, laundry always done in-between bringing my 3 kids from and to, different places. Doctors , school, therapists. I have TV's but no cable because I don't have time to sit. I never leave the house or go to bed with a dish in the sink or throw pillow out of place. I don't leave my house unless my hair is done, makeup on and my kids clean and nicely dressed. I've been living on the edge of burnout for years hiding it with a smile on my face while crying on the inside.
    My point?
I don't see you as unrealistic, I don't see you as inspiring (and I do not say this to put you down in anyway) I see you as a very young mother, who lives in a sheltered Bible community. A mother in her 20's that has not experienced the harsh reality of the outside world. Your kids are young enough that you still have control over their day.
I became friends with mothers like you in NC and their "sheltered" life was one that I can honestly say, was something I would've loved to experience but knew I never could.
I may be wrong but if I had to guess the negative comments come from people that do not know anything more than what one video portrays. I also think that if they knew, they would have never commented. Why? Because if I didn't know, I to would think the same but instead I have met mothers in my 20's like you and never did I think their life was unrealistic, in fact the complete opposite.
I understand the point of this video but I can also see where the negatively comes from. Social media brings people from everywhere. Mothers, fathers from all walks of life, most having experienced a much harsher reality, people that have scars from their past ect.. I'm not belittling your life, your struggles, your work. But your age and lack of recognition or insight into the world and the way others live, is very clear in this video.

I watched this earlier today and I’ve been thinking about what you said. If I’m being honest, I only made it to 17 minutes. First, I can relate so much to you. When you talked about Martha and your home- that’s me. My house is 90-95% of the time in pristine conditions. I don’t want to say always because that insinuates that I never have a day or even a week where I’m just not feeling it or it’s been busy and we ran through it but majority of the time it looks immaculate. I can relate to that feeling of always being busy and working hard to serve my family. Your content doesn’t offend me. Honestly, I watch it for ideas or tips but never for comparison or aspiration.
One thing that you lost me with was where you started talking about “I don’t binge netflix” and stuff. Ok that’s good I guess but some moms do and that’s ok. I’m not sure what things like that have to do with mothering or staying home. I do both. I watch TV and I care greatly for my kiddos and keep a pristine home. No one is perfect. Not you nor I. We all have guilty pleasures or things we are lax on. All of that aside I think my issue is it’s fine to present yourself however but no need to say all of the things you don’t do like that’s a good thing. I’m not sure, maybe I’m reading into it or hearing it wrong.
My number one thing with this is remember your audience. If you have a percentage of audience who feels this way, it’s important to look at that. Yes, they don’t have to watch, but it’s important to recognize that they are the reason you get to do this. Views, comments, shares, etc. is how you get branding and things. It’s important to be true to yourself but also to remember who is watching. If a decent portion of women and mamas watching feel this way even if it’s only 25%, that’s a lot of viewers. You don’t have to change for anyone, but just say that and be honest. Croatian can be helpful sometimes. Just a suggestion.

I think it’s hard because it’s not often brought up that you have marital support other mothers often don’t have. My husband is gone 80% of the time and I still have to work 3 hours a day outside of the home to supplement our income WHILE living frugally because my oldest is neurodivergent and my oldest 2 children are from a prior unhealthy marriage. I never felt challenged by your videos, moreso saddened - you portray this amazing life I wish I could lead, and I can’t. My ex wouldn’t consent to homeschooling, I work outside of the home during nap time, and while I also “don’t binge Netflix” it’s because my day is totally full of solo parenting 3 kids under 4, breastfeeding, cleaning, cooking, prepping and working. My husband helps however he can WHEN he’s at home. It just feels like a genuine lack of transparency that would give your life/videos/vlogs some personally necessary context. You have 2 able bodied adults in your home at all times. That’s an anomaly that should and could be addressed in some awesome ways.

You know the saying “Humility isn’t thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less”? Anyone can see that you do a great job of keeping up your home. This video could have been about 10 minutes long saying that you are trying to steward the gifts the Lord has given you and that any good you do is purely out of His grace. Instead, you spent 30 minutes talking about how amazing you are. As someone who has enjoyed your videos for years, this video really missed the mark as far as humility goes. I felt similarly after only 6 minutes in. Granted, I didn't watch the whole thing so I can't comment intelligently or fairly on everything she's said, but I've watched similar videos of hers - after following her pretty closely and gratefully for years - and had to stop after a few minutes because it's too painful for me - partly because of where I'm at in life and how different it is from her life, which so many of us are saying here... And partly because of what I see her communicating here - basically just talking about herself and defending her lifestyle. Maybe I'm wrong and this video is different. Either way, her content is less encouraging and inspiring than it used to be for me, and sparks more discontent than thankfulness and motivation to be a good mom/wife/homemaker in the place the Lord has put me now. That’s a me problem that I need to shift my perspective and realize that everybody does things differently and how I’m doing my life is perfectly okay.
I can’t imagine the heaviness that those comments bring to you, just because I’m a stay at home mom of three and I homeschool etc doesn’t mean that I am less than you. We do believe you do all of this, regardless of filming. The thing is, in order to truly inspire and challenge people, they need to feel like you are one of them. That you are not a superhero or an alien from other planet. They need to see that you too are not perfect, you wake up with messy hair, your kids don’t always behave, sometimes you stress about things, sometimes you make a bad decision you regret, sometimes your cooking exeriment goes wrong... We don’t see those parts of your life very often and that makes it look unreal. What I’m trying to say is, if you want to make a change and be inspiring, you need to also be relatable. Okay so I love Sarah’s channel. Her kids are amazing and I get so much inspiration. But this video makes me cringe. It’s just 30 minutes of her praising herself which could have been 10 minutes of saying “hey guys I love not taking a break and being super hyper focus on cleaning and the Bible” which is totally fine but seems weird to make a video about it. If your work is public people are going to compare and complain, it’s just how social media is. But saying hey guys I know I’m perfect and I’m sorry you are not because Jesus made me this way is so odd to me. But this is just my opinion. I enjoy the channel as a whole this video is just…weird.

@@AnnaEmilka I don’t know if you have been following her for a while but if so, do you remember her breaking down stating she, “couldn’t do this anymore,” referring to RUclips and mom life? That’s why her husband left his job to assist her with RUclips and the kids. She tries to pretend she doesn’t get overwhelmed but she does. And nothing is wrong with that but she just can’t seem to allow herself to be human. She pushes herself way too hard and tries to appear to be this perfect person online when in reality, she struggles inside just like most of us. Mom life and work life, especially combined, is not easy. That being said I’ve found so many parts of your life inspiring, especially how you’ve dedicated yourself to being the best mom you can for your kids. My unsolicited advice would be to listen to negative feedback with as much as an open heart as possible. You can remain strong in who you are while listening and learning from others. At the beginning of this video you say your lifestyle is realistic and then by the end you admit that you DO need help and you are using your income to pay for assistance. It’s okay to need help. You have many privileges and it’s important to recognize them. It is clear you have a compassionate heart. Put down your defenses and listen to the challengers.

I grew up in a home like this. My mother was obsessed with keeping the house immaculate, and going above and beyond what was expected of a mother of 5. It was hell as a child. Living in such a controlled and sterilized environment without any freedom to "make a mess", or to not have a normal relationship with your mother since she is too busy caring about her home being perfect, is a very toxic environment for any child to grow up in.
My mother didn't mother, she kept house. And this is all I'm hearing from this video. Now granted, my mother was a SAHM with a husband that worked out of the house and didn't get any outside help. Compared to Sarah Therese who is essentially a co-homemaker with her husband, and i'm sure because of this their workload is much more manageable and less stressful. But that is the only way she would find time to "mother" her children. Not one person can run a business, homeschool, clean, cook, and look after the needs of 4 young kids. And I wish she would give Keiran the credit he deserves.
So anyone that views this as "goals" and says she is such and inspiration, this is only goals if you and your husband are both staying at home running a online social media business that literally revolves around you trying to sell your lifestyle. Then yes, they're totally goals!

“Comparison is the thief of joy.” Whenever we view social media, in all it’s forms, we must remember not to compare ourselves and our lives to what we see online. For one, social media is a glimpse of people’s lives, and we never truly know how accurately it portrays anything. And for another, our lives are all unique. There are too many variables to be considered, and just one different variable can have a big effect on someone’s life. Rather, we should take what we see as reminders, of how we do and do not want* to live our own lives. Use what we see as inspiration or cautionary tales. Then apply that to make our own lives the best it can be for ourselves and those we love. Keep being you, Sarah, living your life for God, for His glory, in the best interests of your beautiful family. ❤️🙏🏻

If you make having a clean home more of a priority than watching netflix, or baking bread on the weekend instead of going out to a party it is realistic. It’s all in the priority you place them in. To me, it’s unrealistic to go to events every weekend or to spend my days out and about around town. I work a full time 8-5 at home job, homeschool my child, cook all our meals, garden, raise animals, my husband runs his own mechanic shop, we lead the Youth at church, we don’t have time to to the things others can do. Our priorities are different. Thank you for being SO REAL with us. It has been truly appreciated over the years.

I think though that we often forget that there is an immense amount of privilege that comes with being able to be a homemaker. A privilege that's not often afforded to a lot of BIPOC homemakers. Staying home and being a full-time homemaker is a privilege. I start my day at 5:30am, and I work all day outside of the home to provide for my children and family, and no matter how much prioritizing I do, I will truly never have enough time for a daily sourdough starter. So I watch this channel because it's the lifestyle I pray that one day my family will have the financial stability and opportunity for. With that being said, I take time away and time in prayer and thought to never become overwhelmed with what I don't have. Hence, I don't feel any type of way and it makes me sad Sarah receives hate because that's not her burden to carry. But I think it's important that we remember the immense amount of privilege we each hold in different ways.

Privilege is the perfect word for it.

Everything has a bite. Its one thing for another ... more likely... one thing or another. I think it's more the decisions that we have made in life that lead us into some hardships that we face at the present. I wouldn't change them though. They have lead me to what I have now. Tell you the truth though, bipoc i am but i don't think that had much to do the hardships (pridefully stupid decisions most likely). Probably controversial but ... my immigrant mom (full time homemaker/ full time maid) showed me hard work and will power ... regardless of the racist/sexist/toxic stuff she put up with .. triumphs, always. God is good, continue to kick butt in your life. I pray that the good will always outweigh the bad in your life, in Jesus' name. I pray that same prayer for myself.
Don't be offended. Im really just talking to myself. Time to hang some wet clothes.

@@catr9698 I totally agree with you. I’m Mexican, so I guess considered “bipoc”? However I’ve never thought of myself as more or less privileged than others and believe what the Bible says that there is “neither Jew nor gentile”. I do think that maybe Sarah is overthinking things a bit here though. It’s not a bad thing for her to have developed these specific skills and success.

Being a public figure/influencer especially a Christian one is incredibly difficult in the times we’re in. Continue to be a light!! Do what you need to do and stick to what you believe and continue living in what you know to be the Lord’s will for your life and your families. Sending love your way❤️

I can count the times that I sit down during the day and I just sat for half an hour to watch this video. There are so many days that I wonder how in the world I make things happen. I can’t think when my house is not in order so I work HARD to keep it going. Thank you so much for opening up to us about this. I know it’s not easy being vulnerable online!❤️

Sarah, you inspire me! You hit the nail on the head with your mission to give us an example of a well run home and to challenge us. I feel like I struggle with similar criticism from others when they see me as “Miss Perfect” and it hurts. I’m not perfect, I’m just a stay at home mom working hard to contribute to the household and shine in everything I do. You’ve worded it all so beautifully. Thank you for being you. The world needs more Sarah’s.

LOVE THIS. the people you watch online should challenge you. I am only 18, but you have done that for me! You inspire me to build healthy habits NOW for not only me in this moment, but for my future self and my future family. You are motivating me to change my life so that I live in a way that makes sense for me, and my best functioning. Thank you for being an “influencer,” for the good.

I am the same way with my house, I don't feel in the flow if things aren't neat, clean, and orderly, there is definitely an energetic component to this. Love your "fishbowl" thoughts, good reminder for us all!

Sarah - I really do admire your content. I enjoy learning new recipes from you, and am inspired by your minimalist home. This comment comes from a place of truly being a fan of yours. This video lacks acknowledgment of privilege of many kinds. I don’t want to make assumptions about you because I don’t think that’s fair. So I’ll just say this: women of color, single mothers without help, and those who are below the poverty line don’t have the same advantages that others may take for granted. For some, daily life presents immense challenges and a clean home is the last thing on their minds. For others, they are a minimalist mom out of complete necessity and not being able to afford anything outside of what’s needed. Have you ever sat in line at a grocery store wondering if your card will bounce? What about experiencing prejudice and racism while applying for a job? It’s terrifying. I am a white, privileged woman in a corporate career and I acknowledge this because it’s important. May I suggest if you haven’t already reading Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man to broaden your perspective. Others may have suggestions too. I hope you’ll take them.

I was also thinking about the privilege she enjoys of having children who are healthy and who don’t have special needs. And the privilege of having her personal health and her husband’s health, not to mention a husband to begin with.

I was like that when I was younger. For my first 20yrs of marriage, my house was always so clean and organized, homemade meals, etc, etc, while I had a full time job. Until I had a nervous breakdown. I ended up getting therapy and now I do things very differently. I admire you so much and you seem to enjoy it and you look so calm. I was happy too and I loved my pretty house but in the end I just realized I needed to relax and enjoy life more. Blessings
