Nonlinear behavior analysis is really at the core of how behavior analysis should be conducted. Often times our training focuses on linear applications (e.g., A-B-C analyses), but context matters, and the nonlinear behavior analysis of Israel Goldiamond et al. actually allows for you to account for it through their model. Context is no longer a dumping ground, but something that we can actually measure and account for with this approach. Happy reading!

Ryan, you alluded to some other fields taking a nonlinear approach. Are you able to provide any examples?

Haven’t found an area of science that is missing nonlinear thinking. Doesn’t mean all scientists practice it, but you can find it in any area of scientific application.

ahhh, would it be nice! I have a very long story, that is in short, that I spent 9 years trying to parse out the two, including a lot of individual discussions with each (and sneaking into a class at UNR)... I lean the constructional approach now. That said, there's a lot of nuance and value in both, and if anything I think there could be a "merge" of them with the work of Hanley et al. and we'd be on a great track.

Awesome video Ryan thank you. Looking at the constructional approach and comparing it to linear contingencies and four basic functions almost makes the latter seem unethical. I hope in the future context and the constructional approach is built into our graduate programs.

I've had no issues. Perhaps it's just the different terminology that takes some parsing out, but beyond that, it seems to be the most comprehensive and pragmatic approach there is in this field :) Cheers Bob!
