I'll never understand why people claim the Black Keys "sold out" and "went mainstream". This kind of music isn't mainstream. This isn't pop or mainstream at all. This may not be the blues the Black Keys started with, but it sure as hell is still Rock 'n Roll.
I never heard anybody say they were sellouts tho...and i also don't get Why people think they became mainstream. Bcuz they're not really( i wish they were).
GewoonRood I've read RUclips comments under songs from El Camino by people who think that The Keys sold out and made mainstream music, just because it sounded less gritty like their early stuff. But this stuff they're doing now? It's still rock 'n roll, and it's still good
MAN I don't hear it in their sound. They've evolved, but never sold out
It's their band they can change just about anything they want to about it. If that involves selling out then guess what, THEY CAN. If you're not here to enjoy the music I think everyone else who is can agree you need to fuck off.
They are only mainstream if you come to Alt Rock.
A decade ago, this song was played *EVERY* so often on the radio over here. Australians ate this song *UP.*

I have never listened to the Black Keys until this evening. I turn fifty-five this Spring, so I think that they are pretty groovy. I suppose that my world has been weird, I haven't had a haircut since February of 2020, it's sorta long and I'm sporting the Big Lebowski look.

Music like this shouldn't just disappear to time. Let's preserve it.
The Black Keys (or in other words) this generation's Rolling Stones.
They are good, but no.
maybe not the rolling stones but close
Who's better then?
There is only one band called Rolling Stones just like their is only one band that is called The Black Keys, each original in their own way
But the Black Keys are good.
Fun fact: my friends and I performed this song for our talent show our senior year. My amp malfunctioned but we still managed to get 1st place. 🙌🏼 great song.. also from Ohio!

I remember being 7, this song would play on repeat for hours. Got me annoyed. I remember setting up my papas drums for a concert, this song playing along the speakers as we walked in, put the suitcases in and stuff. 12 years later, here i am listening to lonely boy, followed by this. I never realized how quality this type of rock is. So calm, but the bass screams emotions. I love this song, it keeps me going

It’s because this song sounds like 1970s Joe Walsh.
Absolutely amazing track. Sounds like 70’s glam rock. His voice is fantastic here.
It does!
Got a guard and a gun at your 🏠. Good 💡
It is a 70's song. Originally recorded by Thin Lizzy
@@MikeCMeow Can't find the song. Help me out please. Love discovering new 70s songs...n then listening to them on repeat for three days straight.
@williamusrex6417
The riff at the beginning owes a debt to Bowie (Jean Genie) and Sweet (Blockbuster).
The song then moves on and mostly ploughs its own furrow.
Every time I listen to Gold on the ceiling I think about my family's annual trip to Yellowstone.
It's always been a tradition to play the same playlist on the road trip there, and once we get driving through Idaho, we have to start it off with Gold on the ceiling.
For the past three years, I haven't been able to keep that tradition with the people I started it with due to a few things that have happened, but I still keep this song on my playlist and play it the second we drive into Idaho.
just 2 guys with music that needed to be heard

This observation is probably off-subject, but... I'm always amazed at how Americans' bands' audiences are more respectful and into the music than our own country's fans.

Most people are chasing "gold on the ceiling". They are chasing fulfillment through material things, when in fact true fulfillment can only be reached when truly living in the present moment with all of our love and appreciation for all that is. *The Present* *Truth Contest*
What shite, just appreciate a fucking good band.
That's not what the song means.
I also just discovered it recently (2021.) I love the heavy, buzzy bass. A real decadent '70s vibe.

The Black Keys - Gold On The Celing: An Instant Fix Of Good Old Filthy Ryhtm And Blues Sound
Got absolutely nothing to do with RnB... RnB is soul music, Motown... that's bluesy indie rock'n'roll. Normally I'm ain't picky with the labels but that is so not RnB xD I've been working in this industry for over 15 years btw
I haven’t listen to this in years and it’s still amazing
Songs sound better when you haven’t listened to them in a long time.
Today I learnt that Chrissie Hynde is 71yrs of age and that, Gold On The Ceiling was released 11yrs ago. Compared to Chrissie Hynde, I always thought of The Black Keys as a couple of young uns. I feel so fuckin old now.

I enjoy this later back sound they have. It's a great combination of rock easy listening all rolled up into one Great song
one of the best indie-rock bands of all the time.
Yeah probably. Too bad indie-rock is mostly overvalued, tepid, soulless, meandering drivel. Most of the bands classified as indie rock don't even rock! They are more concerned with their clothes, gimmicks and attempting to look mysterious. Give me The Who, The Stooges, MC5, Ramones, Clash, Nirvana ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. None of the indie-rock bands even come close. They are mostly pretenders.
Love Black Keys! The best younger Rock band out there. While listening to this I can hear some T.Rex, Marc Bolan influence in the sound. Takes me back to the album Electric Warrior, an awesome sound!
Track is a metaphor for maintaining one's identity and not allowing it to be stolen. It tells the story of a person in turmoil, screaming out in desperation and attempting to not drown in their struggles. The chorus emphasizes the need to maintain a "gold" or valuable personal identity, and to not let anyone take it away. The song is a reminder to stay true to oneself and protect one's own values, even when faced with difficult and challenging times.
U mean the music contract they signed is kllling them.....?
