There's more to running in London than the marathon... about 13km more to be precise! The Ultra London 55km race from Woolwich to Richmond is great fun.
If you fancy running it next year, here's the website: www.ultralondon.co.uk
Thanks for watching!

Nice job 👍🏽
What a great place to run an ultra - I guess you know London quite well now! Thanks for sharing this one my friend! Keep pushing!
Thanks so much for watching!
Great vid 👌. Im running in June, just the small matter of Manchester marathon next week. My first Ultra, a great insight, many thanks 😁
Thanks and glad it was helpful! It’s a great race - good luck. Maybe see you in Manchester! (My first marathon!!)
@30somethingmike Good luck in Manchester, its my second after London last year.
Fab video thank you
Thanks for watching!
This was a perfect way to start my Saturday morning Mike. Getting ready for parkrun while watching your video. Well done on ‘just dropping in on an ultra’. Niggles on long runs after completing a recent 100 have always been my downfall. Bodies just take so long to really recover from that effort that the stubbornness of ultra runners wanting to get back out to run again sometimes doesn’t go hand in hand. I know a lot of people would be put off by that route on the the tarmac, but I don’t mind it at all. My first 100k was during lockdown where I ploughed up, down and around my regular paths and roads. I was more than happy.
….and as for your battery dying 😂 well least I’m not the only one.
Well done on your Ultra Mike.
Thanks Rachel! Glad you enjoyed and hope you had a good Parkrun 💪🏼 I was in two minds about doing this without really preparing for it, but I couldn’t help myself 😬 back to proper training soon.
The tarmac was on par with the Wall, albeit the Wall was double the distance I suppose. I do prefer trails, but it was a nice change.
And yes RE: GoPro, I’m going to buy another battery I think! 😂
All the best
That looked a very varied course. Historic parkland, suburban streets and woodland trails.
So much to take in.
It was a great mix. I was surprised by how green it was considering it was so close to London! Thoroughly recommended 👍
Mike, thanks for another brilliant and inspirational vid. What a star. Big hugs. ❤❤
Thanks Pete! I'll need to find a way to get out rowing with Nicki one day!! All the best xx
Great video… I didn’t expect to see myself but you caught me hobbling down the steps at the 9:36 mark. Was a fantastic experience and you captured it very accurately. Thanks for the awesome content
Ah nice one! Hope you had a good race. I really enjoyed that one. About 9:36 was where my gpx route said the race would end but we were treated with another 2km 😂 all the best
BRAVO Mike, completing that in a bloody awesome time despite all the pain and lack of training and nav issues. Wonderful video, awesome!!!! Very entertaining!!
Thank you Bev really appreciated!! It’s not something I’d normally do, but I had the opportunity so I just went for it! Future runs will be trained for I promise 😂 all the best
Yet another fantastic video my friend ☺️ I appreciate the pointing out of landmarks along the way too, hopefully I’ll be able to see a few someday if I get back over there :) Hope you’re not too sore anymore, well done on the race! 😊😊
Thanks for watching TJ! Glad you enjoyed. All recovered now and looking forward to the next one! You should plan to do an ultra over here one day!! 👍👍
@@30somethingmike I’d need your help to get through it 😂😂 I’m not sure if an ultra is in my future, but if I did decide to do one I’m sure I’d find my way onto a plane or two to make my way through the gorgeous English countryside ☺️
Hi Mike, not sure how I didn't get notifications for your last two videos. Great to see you channel growing. I would've never thought there could be an ultra around London. It's quite cool actual like urban/sometimes traily parky route, quite interesting actually. I like it. Like a bit of urban orienteering. Super well done on doing this ultra so soon after your Wall. I bet it's even harder to do on the pavementy surface than on the trail. What an adventure!
Thank you Olga and thanks for watching! All the best
Another fab video Mike. Really enjoyed this one.
Thanks!
Great video! It was a lovely event and you captured the atmosphere so well in this video.
Thank you Will! Hope you enjoyed 👍
Great video and well done! It's so nice to see all those green bits around London, and what a day for it! Hope you've recovered well!
Thanks Elena! All recovered and looking forward to the next! Thanks for watching
Epic stuff Mike! You smashed it mate! Bet all that pavement was tough on the legs. Huge kudos buddy! Looked like a good race something a little bit different. Might put that in the calendar for 2023. Loved the summer pad too looking forward to coming over for BBQs next year. 🤣👍 You coming to the backyard trail in November? 😉 Keep up the great work bud! 😎🤘
Haha you’re always welcome at the “Party Place” as I usually refer to it… backyard looks awesome, though it’s quite close to the Wendover woods 50 - I’ll have a proper look at dates - definitely interesting! Thanks for watching and supporting as always Ben 💪🏼💪🏼
Brilliant Mike … that’s a great run and fabulous filming as ever. I think you smashed it considering all the road crossings and the care needed for traffic through south London. You went past my most fave parkrun at Beckenham Place 👊🏃🏻♂️💥
Thanks Michael! Yes Beckenham Place is beautiful I imagine a Parkrun there would be amazing! Thanks for watching and hope alls well 💪🏼💪🏼
Great stuff Mike, congrats on the race and a super video too. Haven't seen an ultra like this before, looked really interesting with a bit of a tour of London! Loads of green parts of London here I hadnt seen before so excellent to know there's more than I thought 😅 Well done on grinding through in spite of the aches and pains
Cheers Ben, it was surprising to see such a lot of greenery in South London! Doesn't come close to the south downs of course 😉 all the best
Another cracking vid, and congrats on a good run. Will be borrowing some of your approaches to edits/production 😉👍
Thanks for watching!
Well done Mike, and a great video to boot!!
Looks like a fun ultra and definitely something different. Might have to put this on my endless list of events to do😂.
I had a race that didn’t quite go to plan either on Sunday at the Majorca Marathon, but that just gives us more motivation to come back stronger next time doesn’t it 👍!
Thanks - I enjoyed it! It’s a shorter ultra but good to do something a bit different. Sorry to hear about Majorca - I saw your video but didn’t get around to commenting. Onwards and upwards - use it as the fuel to push for something better 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Have considered this but thought it might be too much 'hard' surfacing. Looks ok though. PS - enjoyed the music added 👍
It wasn’t too bad to be honest - a good mix of surfaces. There were quite a few Road sections, but it’s not a paved route by any means. Thanks for watching! 👍
So ultra all booked .shoe choice and deinks at aid stations
Good luck!
So did u use trainers .what hydration at stations pls
@@thekernowrunner3752 apologies I didn’t realise you were asking a question there. I used road shoes for Ultra London. The aid stations are well stocked with drink, but I would recommend taking bottles with you too
Great video! I'm a walker and have a habit of not training for these things (apart from taking the dog out), so it's nice to see a regular person who also doesn't train much! I've signed up for the 25k this weekend. I usually do Action Challenge events, so wanted to ask about the signage for this one, how is it? First time doing this one so wary of getting lost 🙂
Thanks for watching! The signage was good enough, although at the beginning of the route the signs were small and easy to miss. They do provide a gpx route which is helpful. I think generally if you have a copy of the route with you, then it should be fine!
@@30somethingmike hey mate. Just wanted to follow up. Did the 25k (which was more like 26.5!) walk yesterday and loved it. Lovely part of town, and well organised. Took just under 5 hours in 28 degrees heat. On to the next one!
Well done, especially in this heat! Glad it went well 👍👍
How tricky is the navigation for ultras? Always puts me off a bit!
I would say the mental side of ultras is challenging in general. The navigation can be challenging, although lots of races are well signposted and it’s pretty difficult to go too wrong. I’d recommend an ultra if you like a bit of adventure!!
Good Job, but please do some foundation work (even if it's just to regularly loosen the legs up ) pre ultra, you don't want to be put out by months because of something that is preventative pre-adventure. (I know I am getting old /killjoy)
Thanks John excellent point. Don’t worry there’s lots of that behind the scenes. I just don’t film it because it’s probably not much fun to watch! Thanks for watching 👍
hi mike mate, how do you know where to run? do you get a map or something?
There’s a GPX file that they circulate I believe which you can load onto your watch or your phone. There are also route markers around the course 👍
Hey Mike! I am doing this race on Saturday, what do you recommend for shoes? Watching the vid it looks like full trail shoes may be a bit overkill?
Good luck Nathan! I think if the weather stays nice, a sturdy road shoe with good grip will be fine. Quite a lot of the run is on surfaced paths or compacted earth. It’s brilliant fun, I hope it goes well!
@@30somethingmike perfect! Thanks mike! Good old Nike Pegasus it is then 😁
That’s two videos and two ultras where you mention you'r hip “going”. Something to keep an eye on for future events? Yoga and conditioning etc. we don’t get any younger my man 😅
Cheers Phil - excellent observation! I’ve taken 2 months off running and spent the winter strength training 😁 fingers crossed I’m on top of it 👍
@@30somethingmike good to hear mate. It will make a huge difference!
