  • On this video, you are going to see a fun recap of an experimental surf contest format. I thought I'd be fun and interesting if I organized a friendly competition that would provide a twist to the standard longboard events that we are used to.
I chose 6 groms, 5 from Southern California and 1 from Puerto Rico to participate in The Longboard Scramble. I informed them about the unorthodox format, which was not to be revealed until minutes before they were to hit the water. They all accepted the unknown challenge of TLS.
THE FORMAT- 3 heats of 20 minutes each, back to back. Heat #1- standard contest longboard rules.
Heat #2 and #3, upon arrival to the beach, competitors must draw a numbered popsicle stick that determines which board they have to ride next (it can't be their own). Classic longboarding must be performed using the entire board demonstrating good flow, control, and style. Competitors' top wave score ride per heat will be accounted for. The final score is the addition of each competitors top wave score ride on each of their heats (3). The competitor with the highest total score wins!
Massive fist bump to all the competitors, volunteers, and local businesses who contributed resources for TLS.
Competitors: Jack Gordon, Finn Reyes, Zahid Rodriguez, Patrick Holloway, Zian Boyd and 1st Place finisher Ram Pierce.
Sponsors: Ventura Surf Shop, Sky View Mortgage (Lance Wolesagle), Jeff Belzer & Associates Realty, Haole Boy Life, The Barber Girl, Aquaman Leak Detection, Sin-Min, Pro-Lite, and Matt Kolo Photography.
