Elgan saved those frescoes from destruction, the Greek people left them on the ground to decay. If they had any connection to them at the time that Elgan rescued them they would have already had them stored for protection somewhere. Also history belongs to us all and ancient artifacts aren't any different. If artifacts are stolen then they should be returned to the owner but if an artifact is transferred in a legitimate transaction then there is no right of claim on them by another.
Should all Roman statues that were carved in Rome but left behind in Britain when they left be returned to Italy? They were Roman after all.
This has only become an issue since the Greeks decided to restore the Parthenon. I do think, howerver, that it would be a nice gesture if the Turkish and British people offered to have some replicas made for the Parthenon resteration project.

The marbles was stolen few decades before Greece get its independence from the Ottomans actually and many pieces destroyed because they were separated, with result half artifacts staying in Athens and half in London. You can visit Athens museum and see the condition of the marbles and compare with those in London which of them are in the best situation and then say that you protected them which is not true. No Greek ever payed for the marbles. Also they were not sitting in the dirt and dust for a millennia, the temples were in a perfect condition until on 1687 were bombed by the Venetian Morosini and destroyed.

The majority of stuff taken and put in museums in the uk are still in one piece, so they should be thanking us for looking after these things so well for such a long time. Most of the things, had they not been taken and kept safe, would no doubt have either been stolen by someone else or destroyed in one of the many wars that rage around far flung places.

And how is it flawed logic to point out the truth about the places that were robbed by the brit archeologists? I basically said, and I'll make it plainer so that nate can comprehend, that had they not been stolen, they would have most likely been either destroyed or not still be in good condition as most places that were robbed are more often violent and war ridden. ~Or some other person would have stolen them.
