    I use this technique quite a lot. It's particularly useful when cutting out images of cars with the pen tool. The windows of the car can be individually masked at various grey percentages to give realistic opacity to the glass once the cut out is placed on its new background 😊

      I do that too on windows, looks great

    Thanks for this tip Colin. Totally new to me and will be a big help with masks. I'll have to experiment with this on other painting tasks where a more subtle hand is needed.

    I discovered this in Tony Kuper’s latest TK8 panel; he offers a neutral grey button for mask painting and working at 100% opacity, 10% Flow, we are getting better blending. Now we will modify this slightly using the Brightness numerical input.

      Thank you! I just did it Colin's way, which worked well, but hadn't found that button in TK8 yet.

    Excellent. Fine tutorial. I always used the brightness for the mask, usually about 40%,
    but I had never got around to knowing the difference between flow and Opacity, except I knew I preferred flow.

    Hi Colin - this little lesson helped explain flow-v-opacity very well. I do have a question. What happens if you used 20% flow but then upped it to 40% and painted over the section that you previously had painted at 20% - would this remain at 40% or would that add to the 20% and become 60%? Thanks

    • @photoshopcafe
      @photoshopcafe  3 года назад +1

      If you paint over with flow only, it will always increase the coverage until you get to 100% unless you are using gray
