You are AMAZING! Not only that, you play the guitar! I knew you were good people when I found you on CreateLive......to ans your question: not yet, but Im learning stuff b.4 I splurge on it. It frightens me. But not as much after listening and watching you. I see differently now when I shoot. I think Im ready. I really want to learn to compost an image into a Salvador Dali self portrait/ kind of abstract Iknow. But I have to learn how to create whats in my head. Baby steps.....
I actually was doing most of these tricks... but in a very clumsy way, just in the layers. Erasing away parts of them, using gradient in the selections, then deleting part of the images... the whole Layer Masks and blending layers sections were a complete mystery to me until I came across this channel. Good job, thanks!
I’m a beginner to Photoshop. The first few videos I watched were from people who talk so fast that you can’t even follow what they’re doing on the screen. This gentleman is easy to understand and has the ability to talk to beginners in a way that is more user-friendly. I highly recommend watching these videos!
Nice, easy, easy, I would say extremely, without exaggeration. Somehow I feel like he is guiding me to creation with his mind over his hand. Impossible to describe in words. The best so far. All recommendations!!
You are a masterful teacher. You teach not the old and stale how, but you conceptually define why and where in a very easy and intuitive method. Very deep and painless. Keep going! thank you!
I basically use this method to create shade or mirror effects on a product photo, I call it something to be done without any harm. This is a great way to save us a lot of time.
I am dumb and i have seen thousands vedio on layer and layers mask but couldn’t understand it but this man taught me in 14 minutes perfectly thank you sir you are a master
Usually, I use 'black' and 'white'. Didn't know that I could change that on the 'brightness section' of the color panel so the brush won't build up each time I pass on the same spot! I've been having problems with that. So, yep, I learned important things to my work development today, with this video. Thanks, Colin! You are always great
Colin, you’re by far the best PS&LR instructor on you tube. Your deliberate and concise approach is so easy to follow. Not too fast like some. I am fairly well experienced using the apps but always learn more watching you. Thanks
Thank you for an excellent lesson on layer masks! Finally, after being confused by a lengthy expensive (highly acclaimed) beginner program (numerous courses) and many free tutorials from the actual Photoshop company, I have found someone who speaks slowly and clearly, and tells me what I really need to know! Why, what, and how! I also love the fact that you teach how to modify photographs! (what Photoshop was made for!) while so many courses focus more on advertising, website design, social media tricks, etc. People who need that stuff probably learned it in college or company training. I just want to repair, merge, modify, and perfect my photographs! I look forward to more lessons! You're the best!
I had an intermediate class and knew about it. But your tutorial helped me relearn what I couldn't remember from the class I took over a year ago. Thank you. Wanted to improve a sunset picture.
I knew nothing about layer mask at the beginning of the video, but now I’ve understood how to use them. Thank you so much, this was so much easier to follow than other tutorial videos.
I use both and am still learning. Every time I view one of your great videos, I learn new stuff. Most of your tips were new. Thanks for doing this service.
I love using layer masks so use Photoshop and Bridge/Camera Raw about 95% and Lightroom about 5%. Masks are a powerful tool. I didn't know about the 50% grey brush! Thanks Colin. Love your tutorial.
Glad I found this tutorial - will be looking for more. Layer masks I have found confusing, but will watch this video a few more times until I fully understand. Thank you.
I'm using LR Classic CC and Photoshop CC. There was 1 thing I didn't know which was the use of the brightness of the layer mask instead of the opacity of the brush. I think that's very useful, so thanks for that. Always nice to learn something new.
These are the best tutorials ever to watch, all very clear to follow and perfect pace. I only knew about 20% and now keen to develop my skill. Thank you so much!
Thanks a bunch Collin! I’ve used Layer Masks for a long time but you can always learn something from watching others. I didn’t know about some of the keyboard shortcuts.
loved it. Only use Photoshop. I haven't done a lot for a year , so have gotten behind in these great tips. i'll listen again and then give the masks a go myself.
Thank you! I learn something every time I watch the tutorial. Exclusively a LR user but starting to realize the absolute power of PS. As a senior citizen though, it is not easy trying to grasp its staggering number of features. As an amateur landscape photographer I'm trying to limit my learning to those features best suited to that genre. Most helpful....thanks again.
Such a useful tutorial, I use Lightroom and photoshop and recently ON1, really need the extra tuition as I am just self taught and don't really know anywhere near enough about all of them Wish I was 30 years younger as nearing 70 I no longer have access to models or travel that I might have had earlier in my life, I can see the advantage of being able to build ideas from ground level. Thanks , will be watching and learning as much as I can .
So far I used Lightroom for about a week back in the 1990's at that point its was not good. But I love PHOTOSHOP and use it all the time. I do enjoy watching your video and there is always new ways of doing thing. So thanks for all your work.
I am using LR but the more i learn about PS the less I am needing it - It's now just as easy to start out with Adobe Bridge to organize my photo's and to take my RAW files straight into Camera RAW and from there to PS...If you are not aware that sounds like a lot but it is just as simple as bringing up LR . It's also easier to use other plugins with PS such as Topaz without using my resources to keep LR up in the background. . Love your stuff !!!
That was so clear, thanks loads. I have PS 6 on my old MacMini Server, but I took a course back in 2000. I have the PS 5 Bible manual from the course, but I've forgotten masking. So, much appreciated!
Thanks for the tutorial. I use both LR and PS. I have been learning both by watching RUclips videos and it's always great to learn something new. I have been using masks for a bit now and have finally become much more comfortable with using them. Thanks again.
I like everything you show here. Colin, you are amazing and as I are new beginner of Ligthroom and Photoshop I´m glad that I find you here on RUclips. Thanks.
Exactly what I needed to start work on a different edit to my flower images - now I properly understand layers!! Thank you for making this tutorial so interesting and so easy to follow!
I love layer masks! Been using them for a while, but still got some neat tips. I do use Lightroom as I'm on the CC Photo plan. I find myself using it more as I learn more about it. Good stuff as always!
i have learned Lightroom in my Photography class. Now, we are into Photoshop in my Graphic Designs class. I am new to Photoshop. You use more direct selections for getting the work done. My instructor uses the "invert" on the menu to the right side of the screen. It is overwhelming for me for the time being. But I did learn a few things from you such as using the black and white which has not been talked about in our class. Thank you for your video presentation.
I knew them all but watching a master is always welcome. We’ll explained. Oh and to answer your question, yes.... I use Lightroom but PS for the heavy lifting so to speak.
