    Nice! My very expensive Gannet Release dropped into the sea (with my drone), and in an attempt to fix it, found out how cheap the parts are. Your video basically explains the whole thing - photosensor and servo does it. The much more expensive commercial version uses a small lipo battery and that's about it! Might try this myself instead of spending big bucks buying a new one.

    You could use a transistor instead of a relay, transistor is smaller and lighter. Also adding a small resistor before the photo resistor would help turn the current source to a voltage source

    Can you make a video where you show how to build it together?

  • @BlindDude

    I dont think you can do it better than that.. I have a Spark and want to make this for it... I have some super tiny 1S lipos that come out of little RC heli's and mini drones.. Very light and 3.7v.. I dint know that those tiny servos operated on 3v.. COOL!
    Now I have to figure out how to control or what controls the lights on my Spark.. I do notice they do different things while its in different modes or recording or what not.. I hope I can do it...
    Thanks for this video... GENIUS MAN!!! GENIUS!

      did you work it out? i have a mavic pro so it may be similar, go in to the drone tab in settings on dji app, advancd settings, turn on head leds,its off to close servo, on to open it.

    second question when does the servo work, when the light is activated or when the light is switched off ?

    Couple of suggestions:
    Use a 1S or 2S lipo of the smallest mAh possible.. probably 200mAh instead of the AAA cells. I am sure the lipo will be light weight than 2xAAA
    No need to use a servo if you're opening it and destroying the servo mechanism. Just buy the motor which is inside the servo and you save the weight by not having an unnecessary set of gears and a servo housing. That'll also eliminate the need of a relay.
    Mount the entire setup on a piece of balsa wood or in fact any plywood instead of lego. No weight saving here but because of strength. Lego pieces might fall apart if the servo payload is excessive.. unless you superglue the lego pieces.
    I got inspiration from your video and I am looking forward to make my own servo drop mechanism but that'll be for a huge DJI S900, not a Phantom 4

    A bit of a hori idea mate. Your LDR won't last too long. Too much current through it !
    A better idea is to use a cheap aliexpress electronic cigarette lighter and an aliexpress LDR module.
    The lighter is used to melt a length of 0.55mm fishing line, in order to release the payload.
    PM me if you want details.

    Hello, a couple of questions: 1 - So are you using the red light on one of the arms with the photo resistor to trigger the servo? 2 - is there no interference with the bottom sensors of the mavic? - thanks (great video by the way)

    • @jacuzzibusguy
      @jacuzzibusguy  6 лет назад +1

      yes, exactly this. the mechanism does not affect the sensors but the payload often does. i turn off downward sensors.

    I tried this setup. worked nicely on the ground but I believe dji changed something I can only turn the lights off when flying not back on. while the drone is on the ground I can switch them off and on all I want. this system no longer appears to be workable.

      You can change the headlight led options in go4.

    • @jacuzzibusguy
      @jacuzzibusguy  4 года назад +1

      There are two places to change the settings....really 3.
      In “main controller settings....advanced settings” and another setting under the video camera settings which turns on/off led when recording.
      The 3rd option is assigning turn in headlight led for c2 button.
      This way you can actuate the led with the c2 button.
      Another option is to fly without an SD card which will change the stock led settings when you press record.

    using front Red Led light sensor (the ones that turn off when filming)

    • @jacuzzibusguy
      @jacuzzibusguy  4 года назад

      Kelly Kelly there is an option in go4 to keep the res light on.
      Also, removing the sd card will allow the light to stay on when recording by default.
      The c1/c2 buttons can be configured to turn the led on/off independent of the record function.
