Seth Godin never disappoints. 4:38 - Everyone has genius 11:00 - Don’t wait for a guarantee. Don’t be afraid to take a chance. Too many people don’t want to get on the ship because it might get shipwrecked. If you find yourself taking notes instead of being present, you’re hiding. You don’t take notes on a date, you’re present and active on a date.
The density of profound statements this guy puts out in each and every sentence he utters is unprecedented. Truly one of our modern day philosopher kings
ACK. I have to believe that this video will be referenced 10, 20, 100 years from now. The US education system is beyond obsolete.... I'll be digging into Seth's catalog ASAP... Thanks Chase!!!
Seth is a true genius and he brought out the best in you Chase. Well done. 1:00:55 "You can be more generous. You can lead people to a place they want to go. You can weave a network that connects the disconnected. You can see people who are disrespected and treat them with respect. You can bring dignity to people who deserve it." Seth Godin 1:01:18 "My mission is to help people to understand that it’s not someone else's job to do those things, it our job to do those things. And we shouldn’t do them tomorrow, we should do them today." Seth Godin I know Seth said we shouldn't take notes, we should experience the moment and take it all in. I just can't help myself. I have to share this experience with the world right now!
The concept of building to share not to live in is how I try to live in small scale, the more I learn about myself the more I want to do this on grand scale. Thank you for the great interview. Seth therapy I love.
Thank you all for sharing w your community if you got value here, thumbs up or anything you can do to support. Anyone can sign up for free to receive this + 30 other interview in the series at www.creativelive.com/genius.
Wonderful stuff. I like the whats it for question? A lot of university courses are about prestige and hierarchy, and less about the content. I like the idea of doing homework in the class and lessons at night. cool
The skate skiing analogy was BRILLIANT to explain what life is all about : taking calculated risks ---> failing ---> learning from it and ajusting ---> getting a little better next time ---> becoming amazing over time
I saw Seth speak live years ago when he was promoting his book Purple Cow. This interview really took my experience of him to the next level. It was a joy to experience this hour and change and wonderful confirmation of work that I'm doing as well. Thank you Chase for sharing it with the world!
Can you please help me to understand what hide means in this context? Hiding like surrounding all the creative process into technical secrets and no on what really matters and everyone has to figure out on their own?
Wow! A week ago I finished read Purple Cow and it's a great book. It's a coincidence I'm following Chase and looking 30 days of genius playlist, I found Seth Godin :) Thank you Chase for create Creative Live and share it with us. I really appreciate it ! Keep creating !
I cannot get over how many great points there were in this talk. Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! Thank you for all the food for thought. I will be full for weeks to come.
what an incredibly original thinker, good call lining him up after the MC interview for a shift in direction, congrats Chase (your PhD in Philosophy was shining through!)
when YOU CHANGE PEOPLE is art. Otherwise is NOT art because you are just making a living, the secret of the success of any craft, career or business. UFFFFFF!!! Wao.
I appreciate and really enjoy how you interview without a (at least visible) script, Chase. These videos come across as very natural as well as your being in tune with what the guest is saying. So many times, going from an tablet in the interviewers lap, they don't 'listen' to their guest and totally miss what they just said to get to the next question...
Seth and Chase set the bar incredibly high for all future interviews I'll watch, as this was an inspiring and thought provoking message that I'll not soon forget. Thank you both!
I've just completed my first academic degree and this talk really speaks to the heart in terms of my future educational opportunities. Brilliant work Chase & Seth!
Awesome! The Mark Cuban one was amazing, but I believe this has to be the best talk/interview I have ever seen from Seth Godin. He definitely "changed" me with this one!
Chase honestly thank you for all the amazing and inspiring things you're doing. It's only the second interview and I'm already blown away by all the inspiring things I heard, these interviews are some of the best I've ever seen. And talking about changing people I think with this series you will change a lot of people's life. Can't wait for tomorrow's interview!
Hell yeah Jarvis! I don't know Seth from the homeless man in the vacant church tower but this interview is the best in the west and ought to be ranked anywhere before number two. JY
Wow Chase!! I always enjoy listening or reading Seth Godin, you have made me decide today is the day to change and activate some of Seth suggestions. Thank you!
Very well made interview. Chase always ends up adding the small details that enhance the quality of his interactions. Amazing. His other great interviews are with Tim Ferris and Robert Greene.
CJ - I don't always have time to sit at my computer and watch an hours worth of an awesome interview, but it would be great if these were podcasts for when I'm driving around and stuck in traffic, etc. Thanks Chase! Just a suggestion.
Chase, you should let someone make transcripts about all these interviews. Makes it easier for everyone to take away quotes and valuable parts quickly for themselves.
Finally having a chance to watch/listen to these while I work! So much good info stuffed into this short time span. I've only seen the first 2, but the pattern seems to be, NO EMAIL lol.
Refreshingly insightful , inspiring. Philosophical. I've extracted more from this than I've had from other entrepreneurs and moguls I admire. Conveys a lot of great perspective. Thanks to you both. I will certainly share
Thank you Chase for sharing this, I've been going back to this for 6 weeks now, and after reading The Dip it's been a huge relief to cut many things and focus on the one thing I care about, hoping to change people for the better with it. THANKS!
Again...Seth delivers the goods. *_Can't put a price on this folks!_* Listen carefully and then put it to work in your life. #sethgodin #purplecow #ideavirus #makearuckus #creativelive
Hollywood pretty much works like the "guild" system they're talking about toward the end. Be it in a formal way with unions for actors, gaffers, camera operators, etc, or informally by just wanting to work with people who have a reputation for showing up and working hard all night long. Plus, it's always been a "gig" economy--even TV shows eventually end and people need to find a new gig. So maybe there's a lot to learn from them.
This was awesome! Thanks for making this interview, it summed up a lot of things Seth has mentioned in various blogs and books and interviews, all in one! :)
50:58 When education gets hard, which is the only way education works (because easy education doesn’t), most people leave, unless there is a significant social pressure.
to say that the act of public journaling is risk free is really a completely baffling statement. it is a magnificent tool to garner a book deal and build a community assuming you can write impeccably from day.
Hi Chase, you really inspired me with this series, and it kicked off a drive to master my marketing. I'm curious, how did you get so many great people on your show? Thanks!
@54:11 What is the future of education? Seth Godin describes the guild methodology that he says would be worth more than any diploma. Brilliant vision.
Thank you for this invaluable conversation. And I wonder what Seth is referring to when he says that "I can't tell you what narrative can undo - in a bootstrapping kind of way -your own narrative, BUT WE KNOW IT'S POSSIBLE.." Is he referring to the neuroplasticity of the brain? The power of storytelling? Something else? I'd love to know if anyone can illuminate this bit. Many thanks!
+Chase Jarvis i've watched 2 times already and thought are still processing in my head haha thank you so much for this project Chase, i live your work and i would love to see you do some Parkour shoots as well ;)
Interesting. Gives a lot of food for thought and the underlining urge, to work better an actually realizing the thoughts. Of doing better. Of simply doing it. Whatever that it individually means.
