- Honestly, I didn't like this playthrough. If you guys hate this video, I won't care, I don't like it either. But I made it and I'm uploading it. Please enjoy this for the seven minutes it is.

I never even bothered watching this playthrough. I can now see it was a good move.

I never beat the game, i got stuck early on and returned it before i relized there are things called "walkthroughs"

like the day or 2 after this was uploaded they continued the series, and it kept getting better and better

It seems so odd. Usually I'm into the same series as everyone else is, but I really enjoyed this one, though it seems like you didn't. No biggie, you do you. In fact, definitely keep doing you, Tal. You make my life a shit ton funnier.

Why did this series get so much hate? I showed it to friends who knew Paper Mario TTYD and they loved it.
The two things just don't seem to mix well for me. I mean we got the Game Grumps, who can be quite funny at times. and Paper Mario...a game that has text. Already this was kind of upsetting. In the zelda games it worked because the text was not important or really a selling point for it. Like wise, the game play was much less involved over all, allowing them to simply grump it up, with zelda being more of a background thing.
But the Paper Mario games feel more like something that needs someone to be focusing more.
Once again this is just my opinion. (and a great deal of others)
But to summarize. I don't want to watch the game grumps play paper mario because I want to either be playing paper mario or watch someone who is more or less just playing paper mario. the game grumps feel out of the element a bit. I felt the same about pokemon but at least that was something they had (slightly) more memorized. allowing for more focus on humor.
Checkerboard people complain about Dan doing stuff wrong and not using the badges
People enjoy it for the same reason certain people enjoyed the purely text-based adventures. Particularly, people who grew up with and love this game will enjoy the reactions out of Arin and Danny from every memorable moment.
the whole professor frankly part with their commentary was the greatest thing in game grumps history, everything else was mediocre. but i still hope they continue the playthrough this is my favorite game ever

I didn't think I would like this playthrough, but I actually enjoyed it a lot. I hope they continue it at some point.
Last time I was this early, my school thanked me, so I kindly asked if I could help the teacher clean the desks, and she happily accepted. She told me how I was her star-student, and I giggled shyly in return. When it came time for everyone to get here, I sat in my seat. After the school announcements played on the white-board. I went to 1st period, where we had a test, so it was very stressful. I sighed and raised my hand as my teacher wondered around the room slowly, scouting for cheating students. She saw my hand up, and said, "What is it?" to which I admitted defeat. "Ma'am, I didn't study. I was incredibly busy, but I also must admit the horrible, ma'am... I was also procrastinating." "That's alright with me. If you want to study in detention, you may." "Really? Thank you, so much! I'll do my best to get an A, ma'am!" "That's the spirit," She'd smile at me, and I smiled back. Sure, detention is a horrible place, but not like it is in the media. You just go because you did something wrong, like hurting one another; throwing objects; or what I did--not studying. I do regret slacking off, but I did clean my house and make dinner. It was a nice week for me. At lunch, these bullies came up to me, and they teased my weight. I do not like those guys. Women and men do not need to have the quote-unquote "perfect weight." All that matters is what's in your heart. So, I said, "It doesn't matter, because love is trusting someone for who they are, not what they are," and I touched the main-bully's shoulder and heart. My smile was as warm as cuddling up near the fire and drinking hot cocoa. They just stared at me, confused, until I walked away. When I got home, I met a new online friend. His name was Justin. Justin was a kind fellow. We talked and talked about long walks on the beach, cuddles, and watching TV while sleeping on each other lovingly. We had planned to meet up in a week, and we did. He was taller than I expected. A gentle giant. I immediately fell in love with Justin. We went to the club, danced, didn't drink, didn't grind, and had fun. I had finally met someone who loves me for me, and not my size or face. He suddenly pulled me close and put his hand on my cheek, whispering to me, while staring deep into my big eyes. "I am in love with you," and thus we shared a tender kiss. We went to his place, and made sweet love. He was a beautiful young man. In the middle of the night, I woke up from a dream about casseroles, and I noticed that my new boyfriend wasn't present. I got out of his bed, and started to explore his apartment. I came across one room that was locked. I pulled out my phone and peeked under the door, then turned the flashlight on. A shocked, yet gentle gasp escapes my mouth, and I see him, riding on Shrek. He is moaning out his name ever-so-lovingly. I felt tears escape my eyes, and I stood back up and ran. My wails were so loud, it must have snapped them out of the mood, because I heard muffled debating and stumbling. There, I sat in the park, curled in a ball of sadness. There, he stood... It was Shrek. He had his cucumber out, and he stared at me. Slowly, he approached me, and I just gave up. He placed a tender kiss on my lips. It felt like Justin's kiss. I could hear Justin, but it was the romantic ogre would held me in his arms. "We are one," He muttered, "Justin and I are nothing but the same. Mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually." and he started to float up in the air slowly without me. "J-Justin--Shrek--I mean, um--wait! Come back!" I begged. He just grinned down at me angelically and whispered, "My time has come, luv. We will meet in heaven," And he faded out. I stood there, clutching my heart in emotional pain. "Shreeeeek!" I cried out sorrowfully, falling onto my knees. There he was, looking down at me from heaven. I reach out my hand and stop crying. He winked and disappeared. Slowly, I smiled. I have become one with Shrek.

I wish they played more of it.
The problem is that TTYD is too text heavy and not in the Sakura Spirit way and they are having trouble gauging what to do. If they ever do a Paper Mario, they'll have better luck with Super Paper Mario with Arin playing it. It'll be expedient, they'll breeze through the text quicker and the gameplay is more fast-paced. That's just what would work best for Game Grumps. I hear Chuggaconroy's playthoguh of TTYD went better so it's not a universal rule.
I think this playthrough has gotten better as it went on. Ive watched it up to todays. Theyve been using a walkthrough for a while so no issues like they had in this.
I agree. I feel that the playthrough got much better after the episode they fought the Gold Fuzzy.
It got a lot better when Dan actually knew how to play the game and they spent time actually getting into the story. Arin doesn't like the game, stated in one of the zelda CDI episodes, and even though Dan asked him why, he didn't really give an answer, I guess he just isn't into these kinds of rpgs. But he seem to get into it with voicing Grubba and Flavio.
Yeah it wasn't so good, but goddamn if the "head of my dead son" bit didn't kill me.
How you feel about this playthrough is how I felt about their SpongeBob: Battle for Bikini Bottom playthrough.
(that one hurt especially because I was one of the people that sent them a copy, so I felt betrayed by how not-into it they were)
Would you rather they force themselves to enjoy it? Would that really be enjoyable? If they didn't like it, they didn't like it, people have tastes and if it wasn't requested so much, they would have only done one video of it.

Honestly, I liked this one more than nearly all of their series. They had some freaking hilarious jokes that almost had me on the floor laughing. Of course, everyone's entitled to their opinion, I'm just wondering why people don't enjoy it.
I think this has been a pretty good series and it will only pick up in later chapters. Honestly I think Chapter 2 is going to be a struggle for them but after that they should be good.
You spend your life watching countless game grumps episodes to get the highlights, This I should respect not act weird.
Even though there's only like 14 episodes.

I still think there were funny moments in this series, but with RPGs like this one, without in-depth gameplay, it can be very hit or miss with the general entertainment.
Dan and Arin always make me laugh, but this series just didn't quite click for whatever reason. I personally don't like games like this anyway, so I didn't expect to be enthralled.
*except from Pokemon. The gameplay in this is super similar, I know, but Pokemon is definitely more interesting in general

One of the only times I felt disappointed in the Grumps... I dunno why short, incomplete series russle my jimmies, one offs and long series are just fine~ Also, they just didn't seem to enjoy this form of text heavy RPG.
I really wish they'd just stop doing daily content, clearly it's forcing them to play games they otherwise probably wouldn't. Series' like this where they phone it in are reeeaally putting me off GG entirely :(

It's hard to pinpoint why this playthrough was average at best, maybe Danny being not only the player but the blind man in this, i doubt it was the text since he's a fan of Space Quest. I suppose it's what kills many players enthusiasm in rpgs, the long ass introduction to the game before they start playing for real.
I think they're problem with Paper Mario is that unlike other Mario games where the platforming is the main feature, in Paper Mario it's just there because it's Mario, its not there for challenge since there's no lives outside of fights, no downside for screwing up a jump other than losing maybe 1 hp or getting in a battle with slow animation. The jumping on the Overworld has as much point as most platforming in rpgs, to spice up a grind session.
Give them kirby, give them sonic, don't give them rpgs unless they know what they're doing.

Game Grumps has at least one major problem that shows in playthroughs like this: JUST PAY THE FUCK ATTENTION FOR ONE FUCKING SECOND!!!
Pokemon and Shadow the Hedgehog should this, too. If the game is telling you something, read it, respond to it, don't just gloss over text as if it's bullshit cuz "fuckin modern games amirite???" You lose information that creates discordant situations in the game and in your mind, ruining the episode. I think they are still trying to find a balance between talking to each other while telling jokes, and taking a sec to understand what the hell is going on in front of them. So much of their comedy is observational improv, but then somehow think that spending a few seconds learning about the game impedes the flow instead of SECURING AND INFORMING THE FLOW of the content. What's happening on screen IS A BIG CHUNK OF THE CONTENT, not just saying shit and ignoring it! If the game tells you shit through text, don't throw around how it should teach through game play, get frustrated, ruin the energy of the recording, and shit out a shitty episode that would have been saved from just reading a couple sentences!
And, of course, this is on top of what happens with games like Pokemon Sun. WHY DON"T YOU PRINT OUT A GODDAMNED TYPE CHART!?!?!?!?!? Why do you say "I'm not gonna grind cuz its boooooring" when ignoring almost every character and mechanic is the ONLY thing that ruins the episode? Taking some time to level up is NO PROBLEM when it's an investment for PROGRESS, meaning MORE CHARACTERS AND SITUATIONS for more GODDAMNED COMEDY!!!!!!!
It feels like they (and really, let's be honest, ARIN) are getting into a lazy period. Do the fuckin work! Remember what happened at the END of Fire Red....? Well that's been the WHOLE TIME with Sun. Are you really telling me you can't even SEE what attacks are doing? Or what types your OWN Pokemon are??? You honestly can't rely on Dan to have your back so you can split your brain power to base-level competence in the game AND comedy? You don't have to be "good," just FUNCTIONAL. And it's almost as if Pokemon Centers either don't exist or are somehow a waste time to take a minute IN BETWEEN EPISODES to heal at.
Game Grmps, you are my favorite channel on youtube. None of this is will make me unsubscribe, and I hope it doesn't have to so you can listen to this one point: There is a base level of work that needs to be done to unsure you get everything you can from a playthrough. It's very simple...

I really don´t like this playthrough either - every new episode I watched, hoping that it might get at least a bit funnier, but sadly that didn´t happen... too bad it´s back today, wished they uploaded something else

I just... I love this game. I really wanted to love this playthru, but between dan not knowing how to play (and not picking it up as quickly as the game needs you too), and them trying to make waaay too many jokes during the tutorial i just??? stopped liking it
