    Thanks for the tutorial. If I'd known Shopify didn't have parent and child collections built in I'd never have signed up for it. Your tutorial is great but it's a sticking plaster solution for a feature that should be in the app from the start (not your fault, clearly something Shopify should have sorted out ages ago!)

    Very helpful video. I was feeling very lost and not making progress searching the Shopify support articles. They were not helpful. I watched your video and made massive progress setting up pages that work like parent collections. I'm switching from WooCommerce and the way Shopify handles this is just a different way to do it. Not necessarily bad, just different and a learning curve. But I'm already liking Shopify 100x more than WooCommerce & WordPress. Thanks for your easy to follow video - I appreciate it!

I think there may be an SEO advantage as the pages are there and not created dynamically, but I’m very unclear on how the google robot trawls the site. I’d really appreciate your opinion. BTW - I’m finding your videos very helpful. 👍

When I go to make a new collection template now, the "create template" button is all the way at the bottom and I have to scroll, scroll, scroll every template I make. I know it isn't the worst problem but added up through the day it is becoming very time consuming. Does anyone have a workaround that by chance?

    Thank you for your tutorials! They are amazing! :) I have a question regarding the dawn theme navigation. Is it possible to have a clickable main menu item e.g. "Equipment" with nested drop-down sub-menu items which can be clicked as well? I think it's not possible but I thought I'd ask.
    Currently I have let's say "Equipment" and the drop-down items are collections. The other thing I did is that I made a sub-menu item under "Equipment" and named it "View All Equipment" and assigned a collection to it which contains all the products of the "Equipment Collection".
    If I want to assign a page "Equipment" to the "View All Equipment" I must make a template for that page and assign the template to the relevant page? (I saw this in one of your other tutorials) like the contact page has a template. I can make a template for the "Equipment" page to be able to design and add elements to it.
    So I go back to my first question, is it possible to have clickable top-menu item along with nested sub-menus underneath it? Thank you for reading and thank you for your tutorials! :)

    • @MushyLoveyDovey
      @MushyLoveyDovey 7 месяцев назад

      The reason I am asking this is because when someone finds my page on Google and the "Equipment" page appears under my page title and when clicked on, it will take them to the "Equipment" page but it will be empty, I just added a description for SEO purposes. When you navigate through my page in the top main menu items the "Equipment" menu will just have the clickable sub-menus but you will not be able to find the "Equipment" as a page anywhere (except if you make a clickable link). That's why I am asking if it's possible. It's a shame to just make a page for the "Equipment" page and not be able to click on it as you are browsing in my website. You will be able to click on it before you enter because google will see it as my page/top menu item that it exists. I don't know if I am correct on this because I don't know too much stuff about it. Do you know of a solution if there is any? Sorry for the big message! Thank you in advance.

    • @MushyLoveyDovey
      @MushyLoveyDovey 7 месяцев назад

      I just realized that it's a link... I won't have to make it clickable in the main menu am I? :D On google they will just read the page title and description and just click on it and it will take them to the relevant page/main menu item of my main page. They just won't see the initial text they saw before clicking as I will have the drop down menus and they won't be able to see the content of the actual page the clicked on. They will be able to see the page only if I don't have sub-menu items and it's just a page like the contact page. Is that correct?

      Not really because the filtered page is just the same collection page. If you want to do this it might be better to just have a side navigation instead of filters, and going directly to other collection pages when they are clicked.

    Thank you once again! (have you played around with how to stay on the product page after add to cart? the tutorial in the Shopify community doesn't work for my 2.0 theme and I haven't found anything that works, and I can't use the drawer cart cause it doesn't work with an essential app I need to use.) :)

    • @EdCodes
      @EdCodes  2 года назад +1

      Hmm, I mean that's exactly what the drawer cart is for - it adds the product to the cart 'behind the scenes' using javascript. If you don't use that then the default way is to add the product by 'posting' the page, which changes the URL (takes you to the cart). Seems to me the main problem is with this essential app - what is the app or what does it do? Maybe there is an alternative there?

      @@EdCodes Yes, using the drawer would be the simplest method, but I can't disable the app (APO | Advanced Product Options) as my shop heavily relies on it to manage custom orders. I've tested out many other options apps but none of them work for me as well as this one and at a price I can afford :)

    Hi, do you know why when I do this, it still comes up with "No theme sections available for this template"? I've followed all of the steps - I am on the Superstore theme...

      It's probably bcs your website is not published yet. Templates do not work when the website is not published apparently :/

    So if you started carrying boys hats, you'd have to (1) create a collection for boys hats and (2) add the collection of boys hats to the boys collection template? And you have to do that for every new "sub" category for every parent collection? This seems like a weird amount of extra steps on Shopify's part.
    Would there be any way to automatically pull in the "subcollections" by saying "collection name begins with BOYS"?

    • @EdCodes
      @EdCodes  Год назад

      Is that really so many steps?
      (1) if you are selling boys hats you should definitely create a "boys hats" collection anyway, regardless if you are planning on featuring it as a subcollection on the main Boys collection page or not. This is important for SEO.
      And then (2) it only takes a minute to go into your theme editor and add the new collection to your boys collection template.
      Re: automatically pulling in based on collection name - no we don't have the ability to create rules like that in the theme editor yet. You have to select specific collections to link to.

    I'd like to preface this question and mention the fact that I am clueless when it comes to shopify. I've managed to get all my sub-collections created but now I can't click on those sub-collections and see any products. How do I add my products to each sub-collection? For some reason one sub-collection has the completely wrong page linked to it and I have no clue how I've done that to even go back and fix it. Please help!

      Edit: Figured it out. You have to add the page to your store via the Sales Channels section.

    I created a new Collection to use as my parent collection and then made a new Template and assigned the sub Collections to it. Now when I go back to Collection and try to edit my parent Collection and select the new Template, the only Template I am able to select is Default Collection. I do not see the new Template I created. (I can still see it under Customize) Did I miss a step?

      Is this your live theme? You will not be able to assign templates you created in an unpublished theme.

    Can you make sub-sub-collections? Would it be the same concept as creating a sub-collection?

    • @EdCodes
      @EdCodes  5 месяцев назад

      Yes, same concept. As long as you create another page to list sub collections of your sub collection you can go as many levels deep as you want.
