I was stationed at Fort Lewis, 9th Infantry Division from Nov 1975 - 1979, never came down on levy or reassigned and spent my entire time with the 3rd Squadron, 5th Air Cavalry. Our barracks were the 2nd set of barracks on 2nd Division Drive, a Combat Engineers Battalion was the first set of barracks off Faith Ave. I remember the barracks were fairly new back then, if you were lucky you got a 2-man room about 8 x12 like a college dorm room, stacked bunk beds, 2 wall lockers and 2 desks, it was cramped, there were also 4-man rooms. Guys who pulled some weight were able to get a 2-man room by themselves, or NCO's. Each floor had 2 communal showers and restrooms on each end of the building that could accommodate about 10 people. As spartan as our barracks were, the soldiers in North Fort Lewis had it worst...they lived in the old 2 story, wooden, open bay barracks left over from WW2 & Korean War, so we didnt complain much!!!!!!!!
I made Sp. 4 at 14 months, the pay was round 400 dollars a month, yep. I was a draftee the army didn’t giv a rip if you liked the Army or not. Very nice! I remember when I arrived at Fort Lewis in December of 2005. I shared a room with another Soldier which was just a single square room, about the size of your bedroom. Bunkbed, two dressers, two overhead bins above the dressers, a fridge and a microwave. The bathroom was shared with the entire floor. I was happy! Never dreamed of something like this at that time.
wow what an improvement since I was stationed there in 2003. One big room and the whole hallway shared the washer and dryer. We seperated the room with high dressers. Glad to see huge improvements.
Great video man looks good, your room is nice... gives young soldiers a chance to learn to live on your own...this is how all soldiers across all branches should live...or at least start off
So in the 80's our barracks was about 30 people. We shared one washer and dryer downstairs. We had one shared shower with 4 shower heads. One shared bathroom with about 4 stalls and 4 sinks. Nowhere to cook, it was forbidden to have anything that generated heat in our rooms. No running water in our rooms, only the bathrooms and showers. Glad to see this has improved, should do wonders for re-enlistments. And in our rooms, we usually had 1 roomate, no privacy, just an open bay with wall lockers in-between us.

I'll be PCSing to Lewis in January, I'll be assigned to 555. I'm wondering how their barracks are for a 68X, I need to know now to find out if I need to get rid of some of my crap
I was at fort lewis, 1-2 INF. I wish our rooms were that nice. We still had barracks from the Korean war. We shared one big room, and nearly all of them were filled with mold and half of the shit didn't work. I loved the base. I just wish that the barracks were a little nicer.
Codie Jo Yeah, unfortunately I heard about how bad infantry barracks are. Hopefully they rebuild new ones since there’s been reports of how housing is so bad in the Army.

Hey man, you got a really high chance of being assigned to the same battalion I'm at. I work with 89F and 88M, although I am an 89B. I basically do the 89F job out here actually. Check your ERB and if it says anything about 16CAB on it..
Bro they can assign you wherever they need you. Lets say they need 91D in a infantry unit or aviation unit. they'll take you. I do know some unit that lives in the same barracks and a different unit. I'm not familiar which exact unit tho
I was at Ft. Lewis in 82-83 .. we didn’t have anything even close to this ... I had a locker and a bunk .. that’s it .. and it was inspected at least 3 times a week .. 709 maintenance .. right before I left they changed it to 299th maintenance or something like that .. .. it was on the far side of the air field .. the unit was right up the street from the shop .. it’s hard to remember that far back .. spent most of my time eating sand in yak..

Tbh, I didn't request this duty station at all, I was given it. The Army will allow you to choose 3 duty stations while you're at Basic and AIT...but the Army can override those selections if the stations needs more soldiers. Meaning yes can choose, but not really if the Army says so, get what I mean?
Yes and no, it really matters which brigade you fall in to. I know for a fact infantry brigade does not have a good living quarters as much as we do. Now, I fall in to support brigade. We are ammo and fuel guys. It's all in the base and your brigade.
Jordan Brown I got pretty lucky man, this was my first duty station and I got assigned to a unit with this kind of barracks. I didnt even put Ft Lewis in my requested station at all.
I miss my barracks room… I didn’t have a kitchen, but my room did come with a fridge, a microwave, and my own bathroom…. No sharing. Fuck I can’t wait until I get to join back.
Is there Wifi in the barracks now? I was in Germany 85 to 87, and we lived in barracks 6 to a room, open showers, etc. Then in Ft Polk, we had rooms kinda similar to these, but our rooms were 3 people with a bathroom, a common area - but absolutely no cooking in the barracks. These look awesome.
Mark Tucker There is. Boingo wireless, you only need to go from the site and create an account, either $25 or $50 for faster version. Unlike me, I chose Xfinity for internet so I have a modem and router installed in my room.
I was at Ft Lewis in 1967, on my way to Korea. WW11 Two story Barracks. Bunk beds, fifty or sixty others. On latrine on the first floor. That was the real Army. You guys got it soft.
William Rinehart That depends on your chain of command. I’ve been here for a year and a half and so far, they’ve inspected my room 3 times. Main reason is for cleanliness, any signs of illegal stuff like drugs or weapons.

You got the nice barracks. Cool stuff. Can't really complain about mine, we got all the same stuff minus the washer, dryer, and stove. Oh and my barracks uses actual keys, one for the actual room and another for your room in it. I’m at 25B. Going there next year 2018 to help with development stuff. Is it pretty chill? I’m a national guard from Indiana. What’s wake up time? And how’s it like on the weekends?
The only thing that I don't like about the base so far is the weather. It rains a lot, but I guess you kinda get used to it. The rest is your experience and how you spend your time here. So far, I love my platoon so life is good. PT starts at 0630 for my brigade. The weekends can be lit, you know the single soldier life on weekends basically. You have the main city around you. Seattle, Portland and Vancouver man. Lots of clubs and parties around the city.

Hey man, you got a really high chance of being assigned to the same battalion I'm at. I work with 89F and 88M, although I am an 89B. I basically do the 89F job out here actually. Check your ERB and if it says anything about 16CAB on it..
thanks bro ill go and check that!
Donnie Cowan I meant 91F not 89F lmao
so i just got my sponsor, and it says H Co 5-20 IN BN lol.... know anything about that?
I have never seen that around but it must be far away from my brigade. It's an Infantry unit for sure tho lol
I am 91D JBLM Lewis, Washington.
Which brigade will I be likely assgined to? and barracks?
Bro they can assign you wherever they need you. Lets say they need 91D in a infantry unit or aviation unit. they'll take you. I do know some unit that lives in the same barracks and a different unit. I'm not familiar which exact unit tho
Any idea what the 68K barracks look like? Idk what company is for our phase 2 of AIT, but I'm prior service heading there at the end of March.
Not sure what the 68K barracks look like but I do know there are some 68W that resides in our barracks.
I was there from 04-08 and i didn't have anything like that ..lol
@@TheManMarvel Was there 82-84 before I got out, 2 man rooms after the building was redone, but cheap wooden lockers and all metal everything else. Army woolen blankets still.Glad to see the Army is changing. Saw Video on Ft. Riley, my first duty station in 1976 the other day. They too are changing their living quarters for the the enlisted. Same as JBLM.
@@keestrokes lol...that's how it still was when I was there only difference is we had three and four man rooms
WOW it sure has changed since I was in the Army. We only had a bed,a locker and a foot locker. We didn't even have toilets in our room. We walked down the hall to use the latrine or take a shower and I was stationed in Ft. Lewis Washington.
Bro thats insane haha, love it. I was in 2/3 over in the ww2 barracks near the airstrip. This was back in 2007/2008, i assume theyre still as shit that way as always. North fort is king.
I was in those same barracks too. Terrible and the warning signs asbestos everywhere made it even better.
I too was station on North Fort 84-85. 176th Signal. That is an apartment that he is living in. His bedroom is our two man room.
Do you know anything about the barracks of 23rd beb, 1-2 sbct??? I do not mind living in the old barracks but I wanna know if I will share one room with a roommate or I will have my own room.
I'll be honest, it's one of the older types of barracks. Not like what we have.
I served from 1991-1995. We had 4 soldiers in a room.
Are these the junior enlisted barracks?
E5s and below
do you know if the 201st barracks are up to date and nice like yours or are they like the reception barracks?
Drew Breedlove I’m not familiar with 201st barracks bro sorry.
Yo bruh, I’m a 91s, you know anything about how our barracks might look ? I’m getting stationed there and your barracks looks really great
What rank is this guy? That was bachelor senior nco in my day.
jammer3618 I was at PVT at the time. Like I said, all single soldiers receive this barracks. Including E1-E5. When you do make rank to Staff Sergeant, you will receive BAH to force to move out the barracks and make you to live either off-post or on-post housing.
Dam, how time changes everything, tell me are those giant ANT HILLS still out in the woods??? 3/60 INF 9TH DIVISION 77-79 🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸
I remember those Ant Hills. I remember someone said, "Indiana Jones brought those Ants from Africa". 😂
@@bobhill5429 Yea, we spent week's on end in the field! Had to watch out for those ANT HILLS especially at night, couldn't see your hand in front of your face pitch black!!! 😂🤣😂
What unit are u or were u in for jblm?
Yes I'm in JBLM and all I can say is I fall in 16th CAB. For confidentiality, I would like to not disclose my specific unit.
Did you request to be stationed there or does it depend on what you are doing if so what are you doing to be stationed there?
Tbh, I didn't request this duty station at all, I was given it. The Army will allow you to choose 3 duty stations while you're at Basic and AIT...but the Army can override those selections if the stations needs more soldiers. Meaning yes can choose, but not really if the Army says so, get what I mean?
Patrick De Vera yes thank you so much!
Hey how are 3rd (EOD) barracks?
Question how did you get such nice living quarters does mos affect it
Yes and no, it really matters which brigade you fall in to. I know for a fact infantry brigade does not have a good living quarters as much as we do. Now, I fall in to support brigade. We are ammo and fuel guys. It's all in the base and your brigade.
I was in an infantry brigade, 2-3 infantry on main post and it's the exact barracks.
How long will you have to be in the army to have a room this nice thanks man
Jordan Brown I got pretty lucky man, this was my first duty station and I got assigned to a unit with this kind of barracks. I didnt even put Ft Lewis in my requested station at all.
What unit are you attached too? I’m going 51st ESB when I get out of AIT
It's very similar to what we have. My friend is with the 51st ESB. He said it ain't that bad.
I miss my barracks room… I didn’t have a kitchen, but my room did come with a fridge, a microwave, and my own bathroom…. No sharing. Fuck I can’t wait until I get to join back.
are those acu's the new standard? I could only wear those when I was deployed.
Coldbidz it’s OCPs now, it is the uniform they issue in basic now effective in 2016
I got stationed at JBLM leaving at april, was wondering whats your mos and unit? Im a 25U currently at ait
I was in 1/229 16 CAB, aviation. I am 89B ammo guy
Do you guys go to the field in RV's? With hot tubs?
s/ 1st Bn 11th FA 9th ID, Ft. Lewis, Wa. 1973
-1975
Ken Hovater No, sir. We actually drive in a 2019 Range Rover. We do have personal hot tubs right next to our bed.
I was there the same time you were.
I was at Ft Lewis in 1967, on my way to Korea. WW11 Two story Barracks. Bunk beds, fifty or sixty others. On latrine on the first floor. That was the real Army. You guys got it soft.
I guess its my fault that I wasn't born 1967. I should blame my parents. Thanks for your hard service.
Thanks Patrick. Obvious your parents are great. Hope you have as great a time as I did. The Army is great.
The army is STUPID SHIT
Wow in unit washer dryer! No more worries about missing clothing items lol.
how often do you get inspected for your rooom
William Rinehart That depends on your chain of command. I’ve been here for a year and a half and so far, they’ve inspected my room 3 times. Main reason is for cleanliness, any signs of illegal stuff like drugs or weapons.
What's the 23rd beb B Co unit and barracks like in fort Lewis?
I'm not familiar with that unit.
Whats your Mos? Is this type of housing for all army units at fort lewis?
A W 89B and it is not.
@@pjxray do you know what the 12N 555 engineer brigade barracks is like? Im about to be there tomorrow. Just trying to get an idea of what im heading in to.
Is this North Lewis or Lewis Main? And is this anywhere close to 593d?
Lewis Main and its 10 mins away from the 593rd...If you went to reception already, its the barracks right next to the dfac you go to.
hi i just want to ask if us army in the camp are not allowed to to recieve videocalls from theres families? thanks
Yes Catherine. In fact, anyone is allowed to make video calls on any U.S. Army base unless the service member is currently at a Training phase such as Basic Combat Training (BCT)
I'm looking at Lewis being my next duty station. Do you know I'd the 555 Engineers have good barracks?
I was there 2 years ago and no they dont. I mean not as nice as these barracks but not awful either. No washer and dryer in rooms.
I'll be there in February joining 16 CAB. Do you know if their barracks are like this? I figure aviation will have the nicer ones but I just wanna be sure.
Yes, this was 16 CAB. 1/229 ARB to be exact.
@@pjxray that’s awesome! Thanks man. How is the base in general? Are there good things to do around base? How’s Seattle and Tacoma?
@@pjxray also what’s your MOS?
@@conorbeattie7568 If you love the cities and partying, Seattle is 45 mins away. Tacoma a lil ghetto but not too bad. Didn’t enjoy my time down there due to poor toxic leadership. But don’t let that ruin your expectations/experience coming there. I already PCSed out of Lewis.
@@conorbeattie7568 89B ammo.
Barracks sure have changed there. My husband lived in the old WW2 barracks on main post when I met him in 2006. You are very lucky!
I am lucky ma'am, very grateful for this barracks to this day!
You got the nice barracks. Cool stuff. Can't really complain about mine, we got all the same stuff minus the washer, dryer, and stove. Oh and my barracks uses actual keys, one for the actual room and another for your room in it. It's pretty annoying and people including me lose them all the time and we have to go to our BN to sign out the master key.
On a plus though I am right across the street from the warrior zone so that parts awesome
I'd rather have real keys than a keycard tbh. I seem to forget the keycard more often causing me to get locked out
42A how will mine look?? First duty station
Mythic Melodies we have couple of 42A in my brigade, you have chances of getting the same barracks that we have :D
You the same job as me. I'm Air Force tho
Are these the engineering barracks ?
No, these are for aviation units
WOW, I took basic training there in 1970. We had 50 guys in one room. 10 toilets in a row, next to each other and you pissed in a troff. You people have it made.
No, its different times. It's 2020 not 1970.
Does 2nd Stryker brigade 2-2 barracks look similar to these? And are there NCO barracks rooms?
Unfortunately no. 2-2 barracks are older kind of barracks. One of my friend lives in it. I'm not too sure about the NCO barracks.
Is that the barracks for the 2-2 Infantry Division? 👀
Sadly its not. I do know that 2-2 ID barracks are shitty tho :/
in was in 2-2 inf. 9th div 1976 to 1978 cook in A mess hall.
i hope they all look like this because a guy on JBLM invited me over and i’m not trying to get down in a bunk bed
missmiddle27 if you fall in 16 CAB Aviation Brigade then you won’t have to worry about it
@@pjxray good to know I might just be lucky then
I’m not sure how the military works but are you E5?
Xavier Douglas Not yet but very soon
What about 11b barracks? Lol Also did you want to get stationed in the u.s or? I have a few buddies who got S.Korea as their first duty station but not infantrymen. What are the chances of that happening to me?
11B barracks are older kind of barracks, sorry bro. I did want to get stationed at U.S but I didn't mind getting stationed overseas either. The chances of getting stationed to S.Korea then to Ft Lewis is pretty high
Do you know where the 35 series live?
No sorry
Patrick De Vera okay. Thank you.
Thx for the insight!
Can you live in barracks when your national guard?
Samantha Youngs I don’t think so. I’ve never heard or seen anyone who lives in the barracks while youre NG.
i have a queen size bed back home after ait can i bring my bed to my post?
Yes you can! Good luck trying to fit it in though.
🙏🇺🇸🌸Thank you for sharing your video this evening!!!!!!! God bless you and your family and keep you all SAFE,HEALTHY, and HAPPY! KEEP unbreakable faith in Jesus Christ!!!!!!!🇺🇸🙏😇
75th 3rd battalion is there was well right? Do they have the shitty barracks or those? Or something entirely different
I'm not familiar with that battalion sorry, is that a Ranger unit?
Yes its rangers and its the 2nd battalion
How isit for the girls now days?
This is for lower enlisted?
Yes
I’m at ft Lewis 296 BSB barracks and it’s nothing like that. I wish my room looked like that
Are you on deployment or you are stationed ?? And what do u do while your stationed on base ??s study or train??
Satt Yan I am stationed here as garrison. I have not deployed yet but my unit and I have been going to field training because we are going to deploy someday at 2019
