- Geometry Dash is a rhythm-based platforming game, that hadn't received an update since January 2017. How did the game survive until today with such a prospering community and fanbase? Those are the questions that will be explored in this video.
Keep in mind that this video is not exhaustive, and there are plenty of other contributing factors that have helped keep our game running! :)

Would just to thank you all once again for making 2023 my best year yet.
Honestly, I wasn't so sure about how I'd do RUclips after the Acheron hype died down, I kinda just existed for a little bit, but right around May is where I really started to hit on some of these videos. Whether you watched every single video, or if this is your first video, thank you. You guys are what power this journey forward.
As for 2024, there's a lot that's unknown about the path I'll take, but I know for a fact that I'll still be posting videos. Flamewall streams will still happen, of course, but I really want to change up the style of videos again. I feel like I've hit an impasse with my current editing, and I feel like the next step forward is to upscale. Maybe I'll hire editors? I understand my editing isn't exactly the best of the best; I try to keep it more relaxed x)
I'd also like to try and get some merch up and running; I've been in contact with a few people on getting that started, but there's no real timetable on it. Just a possiblity.
2023 was a year where I was able to establish myself. 2024 will be where we shoot for the stars. Let's make it a good one!

The editing of this was honestly so fire, especially how you conveyed the anticipation in the final moments of waiting for 2.2 and the reflection on the game and the community afterwards.

also i really like your editing style, its not over the top like other styles, so i dont feel like you need an editor to make your videos better (if editing is very time-consuming for you though i think its a good idea)

Robtop is such a genius. He made a very good game thats community fed. He just has to give players some updates from time to time and rate levels. There is unlimited content and the editor is so limitless, players were doing amazing levels in 2.1 with 7 years without updates. This game will not die for a long time.

The fact that Geometry Dash not only wasn't dying, but constantly GROWING is impressive
The fact that Geometry Dash became popular over the years is Astonishing to me.
The thing i liked the most is Watching many videos of Stories of Levels, Verifications, Upcoming Top 1s and Impossible Levels.
The Community inspired me to be more good and i always create layouts and buffing the main levels to test my skills.
Hypothetical idea: what if the time between 2.1 and 2.2 was the time between 2.0 and 2.1? Would the game even survive that long? How would this affect everything that happened in 2.1?
Edit: I mean what if 2.0 and 2.1 were 7 years apart, read carefully.

It's because its developper has always remained close to his playerbase
But mainly because the game has grown a cult-like following of loyal and anticipaticous players throughout the years.👍

i started geometry dash when i was 8, and now im 16, about to finish school. waiting for this update for the entire 6 years was so painful, but to wake up on the morning of december 20th and find out it released through just them 2 words made me feel like i was 8 years old again, this game is just so good and means so much to me
The fact that 2.1 spanned from my childhood to me being at highschool hits me hard when i realized it.
This is one of those videos that you could present to anyone outside the community and show them the actual complexity and beauty of this game and its community, my personal favorite type of gd content :) Awesome work with this, hope you reach your 100k goal this year!
Great video and full of useful details for people who aren't really into the community. As Hopefully Rob promised he won't be adding to Much stuff for the next update and it should be quicker.
Unfortunately that was what 2.2 was supposed to back in 2017, so we don’t truly know! 😅
@p1xel1115 let's work with what info we got for now. As far we gotta concentrate is Rob not adding new stuff and creating this loop hole of bugs etc

What I find interesting about this whole thing is that even after 7 years of the game being untouched, there was still a steady increase of players on steam. Even with what most people would consider a "dead game" there were still people downloading it by the day. I've been playing since 2018, and I truly do find that interesting

Great video! I do think Absolute and Megahack hugely elevated the playing community and wish that was mentioned, but that's just a nit pick. Your documentary styled vids are on point!
One other piece of this that bears mentioning. Part of the cycle that made this community self governing has always been top extreme demons, and the popularity of those can be traced, almost to this day, to Cataclysm and Bloodbath. As much as they were insane accomplishments for the time, I dont think Riot or anyone else understood the full magnitude of what he had started when he beat those levels. In many ways we have a community today because of those few fateful minutes of gameplay in 2015.

For me the reason its popular is because of the simplicity of the editor and how easy it is to make a hard level (its way harder to make an intentionally easy one tho imo) and that theres pretty much and pretty much virtually infinite amount of possible levels so any combination of blocks, spikes and whatnot is unique in some way. Its also the fact that harder levels get popular faster than an easy level because, difficulty.

This game added more content in one update than Minecraft did in its entire lifespan.

As a player of another game that hasn't had a major update in 7 years (Team Fortress 2), I'm very glad that GD could get the love it deserved from its creator again!
The fact that it took almost all of my Teenage years for this update to come out is actually kind of upsetting to me.

I wanna thank you all for pushing the game to its limits and making this game better than it ever was and for the ppl who have been gone and passed the torch to new ppl. (as my 14 yr old self) I wish you all a happy new year and lets push ourselves to not be geometrically dominated (XD)
