    Also thank you for not only inspiring me but also my 13 year old daughter. Since she's started writing (she has over 6000 words written in her first book) I've seen her confidence grow and she's really starting to bloom. So again I say thank you.

    It's not always easy to share specific numbers, so I just ask that you be respectful in the comments. I am not trying to compare myself to anyone! I am simply trying to provide my experience to help you know what's possible. Seeing other authors share their income when I was making a decision about what to do with my own career was extremely helpful, so I want to also give back by sharing my own experience and numbers. Negative or hateful comments will be deleted! That being said, thank you for your support and if you want to see more detailed videos or breakdowns by year or expenses, let me know!
    Specific Numbers Discussion Begins at 5:41

      Thank you for this. You're an inspiration, and your videos drive me. You give me hope, that I CAN make this my new career. Been at this for a year now. 2 published books, and a 3rd coming soon. Your anchor series helped me realize all the research I did the year before I became published was the right move. And I'm writing what I love!

    Honestly, your career has been one that I want to emulate long term. I’m working on writing my first series right now, and I’m still learning about the world that I’ve created. I kind of want it to be like the Cosmere that Brandon Sanderson created...where I write about different characters in different places and times, and telling the background of the world through different perspectives through several series.

    Thank you for another wonderful and inspiring video. I started writing my first book 8 years ago, but I ended up flip-flopping to several other stories and never finished the first book. My goal this year is to go back to the first novel, clean it up and finally finish it. I want to have it published before the end of the year. I personally do not plan to use Kindle Unlimited because I have noticed a lot of the authors on Facebook commenting/complaining about how little income they make and how it fluctuates month-to-month.

It took some time because, I too, was following others advice to 'write to market'...and I just didn't love it. It's so true what you said about 'write what you love'. This is why you’re my shero 😊. Thank you SO much for keeping it real, keeping it accessible and for your endless enthusiasm and encouragement. I found myself getting a bit down on myself and my decisions this past while and I realized that I had been listening to all of the wrong-for-me advice. A dose of Sarra has remedied that and I feel my confidence returning. So thank you, so very much 💕

    • @Inkdraft
      @Inkdraft 4 года назад +1

      @Melanie Leavey No need to use the word shero for a female hero. The first Hero was a woman. She was a priestess of Aphrodite and she swam out to save Leander but they both drowned. Her name was Hero. Culture took it away from women. We need to take it back. Just like in the Bee Movie the worker bees were characterized as leather jacket wearing motor cycle dudes. But the truth is the worker bees are females. The drones are male and they do not leave the hive. I'm not much of a feminist but I do like the truth.

    Thank you so much! This video is so inspiring. I've been bogged down by the whole "write to trend" speeches lately, it has had me questioning whether I wanted to keep on writing in YA. I am starting on Amazon Ads though, and it is a learning curve so it's nice to hear from someone who doesn't use AMS and is still successful (I do have two videos on my journey with AMS ads for those who are interested in that process). I'm still figuring out my social media marketing methods as I'm not making a big impact there yet.

    Thanks for sharing all that knowledge, including the transparent sharing of financial information. I suspect a lot of us wonder about that stuff. Your info is very helpful.l

    Wow, Sarra! Congratulations! All of your hard work is paying off-amazing! Am I right that you publish in eBook format only, not print? That makes your numbers even more impressive in my opinion! Continued blessings and success to you in the next decade!

    This is a great video. Thank you so much 💜
    I’m excited for the video on rapid releases. I’ve had a break for a few years and I can’t write super fast, but everyone is telling me to rapid release for success.
    I’d also love a video on your thoughts on kindle unlimited 👍

    Thanks for the information. I know talking about numbers can feel embarrassing. I appreciate it. I also appreciate the extra discussion on the expense side of the tally.

    Congratulations! Making a living doing what you love is success to me.
    I was one who fell into the trap of not focussing on one series. I spread myself too thin and burnt out. I'm regrouping and giving it another shot. Thanks for the inspiration.

    Thanks, Sarra!! I'd definitely watch a KU video. Keep wondering if I should write a series just for KU. 😁
