  • In their classroom, Miah teaches their students about health and safety like how to eat a balanced diet, use the buddy system, and to wash their hands to keep away colds and prevent the spread of germs. With good intentions in mind, Miah's school has decided to use disinfectant foggers in the evening to spray in the hallways and classrooms to help stop the spread of illness. Unfortunately, these foggers are not considered effective at preventing illness in public spaces. Rather they may be doing little more than pumping harmful chemicals into the air, and leaving toxic residue covering our surfaces. Disinfectants like those used in many foggers, sprays, antibacterial soaps and even those convenient cleaning wipes often contain chemicals called quats, which are pesticides, powerful irritants, and are linked to respiratory and reproductive harm. And despite popular belief, use of potent antibacterial cleaners in the classroom has never actually been proven to reduce illness any better than cleaning with plain old soap and water. Miah agrees. After all, teacher knows best.
Bottom line: Products designed to keep us healthy should never put our health at risk.
