About this van:
As the future of driving becomes more and more electric and moves further away from the burning of fossil fuels, it's only natural that campervans and van conversions will do the same and so it's SUPER EXCITING to be able to feature one on the channel!! This fully electric, self-build van conversion is an incredible example of what can be done with an electric vehicle and also shows that it doesn't';t need to cost $1m... or even close!! The van they used was a Nissan e-NV200 an for more detailed info on the build project make sure to check out their website above.

Thanks for letting us share it on the channel - super cool to be able to feature an electric conversion. Hopefully, my next van can be electric!
Very interesting but I think at 70 miles per charge I’d have mega battery anxiety.
@@DAAyre this van is a 2014 model, all new vans have 200 miles+ range and EV cars have up to 300-400 miles range. Also there are now public EV Rapid Chargers is every single motorway service station in the, so it's really not too much of an issue once you get used to it. Checkout www.zap-map.com/live/ to view the available public charging stations, there are currently 40,000 points in the UK.
Great build!!! Ur dog's bed at night is a seat?? That big dog needs to be able to strech out all the way. My dog had back problems. For the last year he now sleeps all the way stretched out and has not had any back problems. They will develop back problems eventually.
@@theflyinhawaiiantravels354 Thanks, he often starts off on the seat then comes and lies on our bed! He's free to more around, we don't force him to sleep on the seat, but he often likes to be curled up. We don't live in the van full-time, we just got away for a few weeks a couple of times a year
Finally, a fully electric van build! 👏🏽👍🏽 I love how tiny and compact it is and so much is in it. Lovely!
Great can nice to see a traditional do it yourself build without over the top interior, functional but cozy.
Thank you so much for sharing. It is so interesting to see an example of electric vans.
I atually plan to change the old diesel engine in my VW LT35 and install a fully electric system instead.
As more and more cities gets green/dieselfree zones, I find the progress in electric vans (and cars, in generel) very important and usefull.
So we can keep on travel and explore in a responsible and enviromental friendly way.
Have a safe journey 🌍
Greetings from Camilla in Denmark ☀️
If you are curious about electric conversion of a diesel powered travel van to electric, have a look at Soleva Solar Electric van on any social media. we hope to be able to have a video with Nate as well once our build is finished
Sounds great, good luck!

Thanks! That;s great to hear. The Kanngoo is a nice electric van, however it doest have rapid charging capability like our e-NV200 does so long trip would be tricky. It only takes 15-20min to rapid charge our van so it's possible to cover 300+ miles comfortably in a day.

Someone tweeted this video and now I've found this channel. Hi fellow van lifers. I hope to get solar in my van soon
Looks like lots of fun. I would need a potty.
Interesting about running the 12v items and other electrics. I always wondered about that. Doesn’t seem to drain the battery much at all.
If they run an 800W induction hob for 20 minutes each day, plus 50W to run everything else for 12 hours, 0.27kwh.
That's 1.3% of a 21kWh battery.
76 days capacity.
@@rogerstarkey5390 12v battery isnt 21kWh
@@cbflazaro Does it not use a DC to DC converter?
Solar panels is shaded, severely reducing it's output.
Monocrystalline and polycrystalline will output as much as as the cell with the most shade. So by having the panel under the roof rack, you are in practice shading the entire panel.
If you want solar panels under shade, you have to use thin film.
As I mentioned the rack is removed when the van is used for camping trips. But thanks for the tip!
I love the swivel seat
FANTASTIC,all thes best to you three 😘🙋♂️🇬🇧
The funny thing is early on you needed a long range vehicle due to poor charging infrastructure, now longer range vehicles are available you don't , due to a better charging network. Crrrrrazzzzy !!
Thank you Nate for this INTERESTING Vid. Woke up Sunday morning in California to your Latest Tour. I own a Nissan High Top Model 2500 V6 Year 2015 Gas HOG last 2months price per gallon continues to increase by Late Spring gut instinct OVER $5.00/US dollars.
Love this!!!
Great work guys 😊
Now if only the solar panels were sufficient to charge the vehicle battery…
We're seeing van builds with 800-1000W of solar now, so it's at a stage when a vehicle that's static for a few days in summer could get useful "get out if trouble" range.
Realistically, you'd have to be a numpty to let it get that low.
there are evs beeing developed to do just this. eg the sion from sono motors. a big van with more surface area could gain much more solar power... the energy production is very situational tho. but i wont be surprised to see like 30 miles daily range by solar.
it will be hard to garage-upgrade such an solar system to your ev-van as these batteries run very high voltage
I can't wait till more gas electric hybrid vans come to market. Go camping for the weekend, charge up while parked, and off to the next destination. If you run out of electricity out in the woods then you can use the hybrid gas engine to make your way back. Now that is sustainability that is also practical (no longer worried about range).
@@TylerWitucki yuck - we hate hybrids
@@designbooth007 That's just your opinion. Pure battery electric vehicles don't make sense in most extended camping sites and many situations. So logically a hybrid vehicle would be a better choice for a lot of people who still want to be environmentally friendly. Gas stations are still in abundance, while charging stations are scarcer and inconvenient in most locations.
Loved the video , even the dog great
Looks great, thanks for the inspiration! I vaguely recall a van outfitter mentioning that the ev van battery warranty would be void if they tried to tap it for dc-dc, is this something you guys looked into?
Thanks! Lots of commercial applications do exactly the same, British Gas has a fleet of these vans with 240V inverters professionally fitted. The DC-DC converter is rated for 135A and the 12V battery acts as a buffer. Our peak draw is less than 70A so we're operating it within specifications, I don't see any issues with warranty. Our van is over 5yrs old, so its of warranty but I wouldn't hesitate to use it in the same way if it was.
Omg i love the dog and van
Thx for this @Glyn Hudson ! U.S. needs to get it together; hoping to build my own. Great first name, btw ;)
Who converted your bed it's, amazing yey thanks goodness I came, across this video I'm just thinking to buy electric car or van and now I know that I can save a lot of money.
thanks for the video. How did you manage to secure the seats to the chassis? with the battery underneath?
Hi I've just bought an ev after seeing your conversion one question where did you get those captain seats?
If you check out Glyn Hudson’s channel you’ll find a link to his blog in which you’ll find a list of all the suppliers for the various parts he used for his van build. I myself fitted exactly the same type of captain’s seat in my e-nv200 - works a treat.
This is a glimpse of the (near) future.
Really? there burning all the trees in the world and call it bio fuel how dumb are you? what happens when there's no trees left?

What ARE you rambling on about? Trees? How does this van (Or EV's in general) effect "Burning of trees"?
"dumb"? Find a mirror
@@soapyvanshoey3179 Nothing wrong with a bit of bio mass electricity generation. Electricity will always come from a mix of sources. Driving electric is always cleaner.
@@Simon-dm8zv Yeah screw it lets clear fell the ancient pristine forests of North America to feed some European quota, lets not emulate what France has done which is to safely and cleanly produce over 70% of its electricity by Nuclear energy.

What would you recomend for new electric van purchase now
I love this van!!!
Awesome card playing table, play 21 for 50p LOLZ
So how much does it cost to charge your van at a service point?
The cost varies, but it's always much cheaper than fuel. Charging overnight at home a full charge costs £1 of electricity. Motorway service rapid chargers are usually about £4-5. A recent return trip to Spain cost about £100 for 2500 miles. Take a look at www.zap-map.com/live/ to see locations and pricing of EV charging
yessss im so excited
How did you shower and use the bathroom?
You can get showers at services if needed. You can become a master of getting washed with set wipes too. I spend about two weeks at a time living in my van travelling the uk for work. Never had a shower in the van. Been doing it for 6 years now
plenty of vans this size without facilities.
Campsites, towns or the great outdoors. No room for showers and crappers in an env200.
9500 is cheap so long ago, cant buy that age now that cheap. thanks for sharing , very interesting :) ah you went throu slovinia , love that country :) maribor or ptju? i see you were near :)
Yes, It looks like 2nd hand EV van prices has increased recently. I guess it's a good thing that demand for EV's is high. The good news is that there are some excellent new EV vans now available e.g Vivaro-e, Maxus e Deliver3 etc. When I bought the van the e-NV200 was the only choice. Slovinia was stunning we climbed near Osp, Črni Kal then travelled via Ljubljana to Zagreb
@@GlynHudson what other ones are their and prices? the 24 env200 prob cheapest as oldest?
Inspiring. I wish we had electric vans in the U.S. More power to you, and I wish you all the best.
After market cruise control?
I wonder how many nonsense comments you’ll get from the anti-EV fanatics? We’ll all be driving electric vans within the decade, and that makes some folks so bitter.....
Correct.
They could even upgrade this one for not too much money.
and now they're here!!
How much do they cost
In us we don’t even have hybrid cargo vans. It’s crazy.

You can technically live for free with lots of free charging stations. That mixed with fishing and dumpster diving you can technically live for free.
I think it would be really weird watching battery fuel running down especially in the middle of nowhere
The van gives you plenty of warning and the remaining range estimate is quite accurate. Luckily electricity is almost everywhere, worst case scenario is you have to plug into a domestic socket. There are actually 40,000 public EV charging stations UK, so usually one is not far away. Just like going to a fuel station, checkout www.zap-map.com/live/
It's not that bad at all really. Even here in V8 loving NZ it's a great vehicle
#iloverangeanxiety 😁
2 options. Connect solar to the car or carry a small gas generator for emergencies (would also help if you had like a cloudy week and your onboard batteries are low)
@@childish9132 Usually in most places in the world you can find a plug socket, even a domestic plug socket is much quicker than solar or generator. There are lots of EV charge points these days, checkout www.plugshare.com/
I work for a company that converts the Env200 into taxis.
Hallo Martin, have they upgrade the batterie, do not know about you Can do that😊
nice one.....
Get more solar panels on the roof and movable panels and charge up that EV while parked on a camping trip!
Nice about time! But running it all off a Granny Charger? risky man just hook up directly to the site
Yes, when on a campsite we can plug directly into the 16A hookup, I think I did mention this. However, I never draw the full 16A, not many campsite hookups can sustain 16A. I usually limit it to 10A, it takes about 8hrs to charge, but this is not a problem if we're staying for the night

Sorry why have all these charging points and build expensive charging infrastructure with all its limitations when they could just build in solar panels into the vehicles roof as standard?
Roof is too small a space to accommodate enough solar surface area to keep an EV charged.
@@stevejoneswildwriter Yeah but it will help

The panels they could fit would cause more loss due to drag than they supply to the van battery.
They already have one but it's only 150 watts. They could use a suitcase panel set or two.

I wish people would stop overusing the phrase "off-grid". You aren't off-grid when the power you need to run your vehicle still comes from the grid.

wrong perspective.
Just needs to outrange the driver, then charge while the driver empties and fuels.
@@JoeMaranophotography We don't really have a choice here - we have to stop burning diesel and petrol ASAP - preferably this decade. So the question is how do we proceed given that constraint? Use EVs and stop a bit more often for a walk is one, very sensible, approach. Others are possible such as e-fuels and hydrogen-fueled EVs but they need a factor-of-several more energy (or large-scale CCS for blue hydrogen) so are likely to work out a lot more expensive. The 200 miles van is just about here now (in summer, if you drive slowly) which is about the distance where range ceases to matter much for cars. wild-camper campers is just about the worst application for BEVs and it's already doable at the smaller vehicle end of the market, with more capable vehicles coming out every couple of months.
