I'm with you there. That big chord in the middle used to give me shivers. It still does. Nothing, nothing like then Tornados. I still play them regularly. And, yes, a different world...dangers out of sight but still there. But to us...innocence!
For so many years, I thought 'Telstar' was the only Tornados'hit, but only fairly recently I discovered so many other songs like 'Globetrotter' and this one. What wonderful tunes - If I ever got to travel back in time, it would be to the studios where they produced these magical songs....
In the sixties , every Saturday morning we went to the cinema and they always played this before the picture started while we were still stuffing our faces with icecream and sweets, weird how a piece of music bring certain memories back that I'd thought I'd forgot.
True. Who would ever consider the use of a clavioline as the primary instrument of a piece? The Tornadoes also hold, as many know now, the distinction of being the FIRST UK group to land a song at #1 on the US charts with Telstar in late 1962. Producer Joe Meek was a true innovator of their sound, and the group might have had more chart success, had it not been for the Advent of the "Mersey Sound", which foreran the "British Invasion" which shunted aside many good and great artists of the pre 1964 era.
I listen and I think...All the stars in the sky are exceeded only by my wonder and awe at what I am a part and only in part aware of. Wow..Great piece of music.
Born in 1952 so remember Telstar well but sad to say - and ashamed to say - I don't know this. Excellent though. Think will spend the rest of the evening listening to The Tornados music.
Great nostalgic music from the innocent early 1960s. I'm still a great fan of the Meek sound in my late 70s (Member no. 51 of the Joe Meek Appreciation Society).
Great songs. Just lie back and meditate and imagine yourself soaring through Space in your own little space ship, with your partner , wondering where you're heading and how long the voyage will be, what wonders you'll tell your friends about when you return.
Their Anothology double CD contains all their classics and more besides. Absolute timeless masterpieces every one of them. It is often said The Shadows were the top intsrumental group,a very valid claim, However these were right up with them.
No never released as a single. I agree one of their best tracks and would have done well as a single if issued at the right time. Unfortunately the group had a relatively short window of success as pop music fashion changed about a year after Telstar, with the advent of Beatle mania and the Mersey sound. After that their records struggled to make the charts, but they carried on making great music into the mid sixties.
As you so rightly say John the Tornados had the unique Joe Meek sound and their short career came to an end much too soon due to music fashion changes and also several changes in personnel..I have the anthology album and several tracks on that album are outstanding , my favourites being Dragonfly,Telstar,Globetrotter,The ice cream man, All the stars in the sky and Lullaby for Gulia. They're all great though! All good wishes
Phil Dentertainment cheers phil, i had more up but they got blocked :-( i will try re-uploading, not sure if the link below will let you hear telstar ruclips.net/video/WPDvsLSnUGc/видео.html
One of the last Tornadoes singles released received little air time and disappeared into the mists of time, but still made good use of that unique sound, and a melody that probably sounds better today than it did at the time of its release, that was "Monte Carlo". Anyone recall that virtual Swan Song?
I was going to comment... but you said exactly what I'd of said...wish music like this would become popular again...just makes me feel good to listen and enjoy.
If I were to have the honor and privilege of testing our first warp drive (which will likely not happen in my lifetime) I would like to take this and Telstar up with me :D
If I hadn't known that the Tornados performed this selection, I could have sworn that this music came from outer space. "All The Stars In The Sky" should have been another Top-40 hit for this amazing band. Just saying.
So good to hear J.R! - this sounds like a better take than was used on the Sound Trk LP. Otherwise, the stereo upgrade mix has done wonders with the Piano and Bells! But, still sounds like a better 'arrangement' and quite a bit different from the original LP release!
@davestarr88 Matt is an absolute genius. His film music, piano pieces and symphonic music are beautiful. Saw MUSE live last month: don’t know how they still keep so special after over 25 years.
I do wish I had met Dear Roger Laverne before we lost him 😢 I collect and play keyboards thanks to his inspiration and a tune called ‘TELSTAR’ ! I wish I knew what that keyboard is he uses on Telstar, it’s not a Clavioline though. Thank You Roger RIP 😕
Roger LaVern & The Microns actually released singles of Christmas music back in the 1960s including 'Christmas Stocking' and 'Reindeer Ride' which sound very much like The Tornados. Timeless music.
@KenR208 Yes, agreed. I think the brain remembers the music just as it was originally; the emotional connection with it is lost if it is remastered, re-recorded, or “stereo’d”.
@@GWAYGWAY1 Spot on summary Graham. One of the only re-masterings that got it right. was a series made from the Norman Petty Masters of some Buddy Holly and instrumental tracks by the String-a-longs. It took a superb and dedicated engineer to transfer these especially fine Mono Masters to CD with that 'special' Analouge sound. It can be done, but they have to want to spend that essential extra time - and the engineers have to have a loving 'feel' for Anolougue mono.
14 years old when "Telstar" came out in 1962. Still tear up when I play it on you tube. It was a different world then.
My mom had the Telstar LP. I grew up on that, among other music. Love the sounds on that album. In 1998, I recorded it to CDR for me and my brother.
A better world which is sadly disappearing

Yes. Great music from a great band.
My time ,great music 👍
those studios are a very strange place😬
Ridin' the Wind, Jungle Fever and Ice Cream Man did fairly well on the pop charts.
These guys were truly wonderful. It's almost like how the Ventures would sound if they came from a different planet ! What great recordings.
The sort of music my grandparents probably grew up with in the early sixties. Man, to be alive back then I wonder.
An absolutely beautiful ❤️ overlooked instrumental-one of their best ,in my view.
I was born in 1960, and this music is relaxing to kick back and listen to.❤
Born in 58 I can always remember and loved this song what talent thanks to all for making it possible
In the sixties , every Saturday morning we went to the cinema and they always played this before the picture started while we were still stuffing our faces with icecream and sweets, weird how a piece of music bring certain memories back that I'd thought I'd forgot.
Love and fury is a classic tornados track and has got a great atmosphere to it,
A truly unique sound. No one on earth could even begin to re-create that now.
Angela Sanders SAME!!! This is extremely catchy

Burt Shoobs Joe Meek didn’t like Merseybeat and threw away a Beatles tape given from Brian Epstein
@@matsgoalkeeping2448 exactly. Joe Meek had his own style and thought little of Mersey Beat. It wrecked a lot of great acts
@@matsgoalkeeping2448 I believe that was for "dramatic effect" in the movie Telstar.

Clem still plays with that same smile on his face!
Fantastic music 👏👏👍🏻
What a very polished group they were, fantastic music
They sounded so space age and futuristic when I was a boy.

Great sound. Love all Joe's work, the guy was a genius. 2 thumbs down people ain't got a clue!
hard times for him
Great music looking smart and Joe Meek is a legend
@@john111257 Joe Meek was a giant in the music world a path finder- poor soul
Unfortunately, Meek's death really tragically. 😪

Now i understand some Matt Bellamy influences; of futuristic rock. His father : George Bellamy; was here ) . And this is truly futuristic rock n roll.
The Tornados had the magic of clavioline, awesome.
And a super super player of it.
A forgotten gem loved it. ♥️🎸🎸🎸🥁
I always liked their sound, and wish this one was part of the Telstar LP.
But gents, PLEASE tune those instruments before recording!

Bought their records in the day. Loved their sound.
They backed Billy Fury for a while.
The 7 people who gave this a thumbs down have no taste in music.
YES
which "people"?

Your absolutely right .The Tornadoes one of the best groups ever 🎼🎙️🎸🎷
@@davidkeay1035 well, there were few other groups too :-) but YES, they were GREAT, the magic of clavioline made them a lot different from others :-)
So good to hear these songs again. Thanks for posting them.
Only just came across this one by the tornadoes . will certainly be looking out for more of these jewels
Wow...! Joe Meek would have loved this. Absolutely brilliant 👍👍👍
Lovely to see and hear this music and group.
What a fabulous sound from the Tornados. Was this ever released as a single and if not why not! Would have been a top ten hit.

And I think Joe had a thing for Blonde boy
Simply fantastic. often wondered what Joe's productions would've sounded like in stereo ;-)

I love this sou d ,beautiful tune
Long Live Thee Tornadoes 🎶👌🎶👌🎶💯🌹🪽🙏🪽
This is the music the Beatles were up against in Britain in 1961-62. They hated it, but I like it. Not “please please me”, but entertaining.
Fue un sonido adelantado a su tiempo. Inolvidables.
Brilliant, wish I never sold my tornados albums, deep regrets
had them too
Buy new album
You did what??? :-)
Fantastic!
Back when music was about actual talent
No me explico como es que me encanta la música instrumental , pero me facina
THANKS for posting this, such depth and brilliance of sound. You managed to improve on the original without detracting from it!
Fantastic remix. They were other worldly and ahead of their time. You have guess that Kraftwerk were influenced by the Tornados
Super I was brought up with my dad and grandad boggieing away. Love them. Robot. Globetrotter and many more lol
I’m going to have an evening of Tornados music mixed with some Kraftwerk tracks !
Fantastic....
Robot is cool also.
It's sad how the U.S. turned away so many great British songs and groups.
The Beatles turned that contemporary music business pretty upside-down...end of an era
Brilliant guitar breaks.
Que belleza
Great when your Stereo Amp or phones are working but, poor if not! The analogue Mono was marvellous and overcomes this problem

Well done John suburb stereo best I heard
Clem seemed to play that hi-hat pattern a lot on Tornados songs.
And to think, that one of them would go on to have a son named Matt Bellamy (lob “MUSE” into search!)
And do "stelar" music

He didn't play on the original 'Telstar' - that was Geoff Goddard who played a clavioline.
I feel the sound of the original mono mix remains better - a great 60s melody!
Great.
