Thank you Plavka! I hope to meet you one day and hopefully we can record 1 or 2 interviews as well then. Big fan! Your voice is amazing! And I hope that you and Jam will make new music in the future, how cool would that be! ;-)
It's 1999, I'm 17 and living for my two last years of Bac (Abitur) in Berlin. I'm in an internet cafe, and I hear that sound. I ask the tenant what music it is, but it was on the radio and he didn't know. Fastforward like 10 years, and despite my best efforts, and growing knowledge of electronic music, I still can't find that sound I loved at the time. Then I talk about that experience with an older collegue, who knows his stuff in early electronic music. I start singing the melody, and instantly he tells me it's Right In The Night by Jam & Spoon. And I'm like "what, but I know that band, how did I missed this...". I love how your channel is bringing back so much memories, thanx a lot :)
@@dr86688 I just listened to it and I bet when you tried to sing it many people told you it was think about the way, by Ice Mc, the two songs are sooo similar :)
I totally agree; 'Right in the night' is timeless & perfect as it is, no need for new remixes or covers. Power of American Natives is also like that ...
I only discovered this song about 2 years ago during quarantine, and was instantly hooked. Absolutely love this song and still listen to it regularly. What shocked me the most was the fact that it was released in 1993! The sound quality is amazing, and I would have guessed it was from 1998/99. Excellent track.
What set J&S apart from others is that you didn't have to be into trance to like them. The production, the groove, the depth etc were so well crafted that the genre didn't matter. A lot of their tracks are huge classics and it's well deserved.
Jam & Spoon were a German electronic music duo formed in 1991 in Frankfurt. The group consisted of composers and producers Rolf Ellmer (a.k.a. Jam El Mar, classically trained composer) and Markus Löffel (a.k.a. Mark Spoon, DJ). They also worked under the pseudonyms Tokyo Ghetto Pussy, Storm and Big Room. Under these pseudonyms, the credits on the albums are listed as Trancy Spacer and Spacy Trancer . Genres :Trance, Eurodance, house, trip hop
Rolf Ellmer a.k.a. Jam El mar is a techno/trance legend. Thank you @muzikxpress for posting this! I remember hearing Jam & Spoon's music for the first time in the early/mid 90s on the radio and clubs while I lived in Germany. Great times, great memories!
I learned for the first time about Jam & Spoon when Angel was released, so when I bought their amazing album I got to know the other great vocal tracks as well. Find Me, Angel and Right in the Night are amazing dance tracks with strong lyrics and are still one of my most favorite (euro)dance songs ever!
One of my favorite J & S tunes of all-time. I first heard it in 1995 or 1996 at a store in the U.S. where I worked when a sales guy who also worked there in the Electronics department played a cassette recording of the tune to show the quality of the stereos to the customers. I have had the pleasure to meet Plavka in the U.S. and hear her perform this classic, live. Great interview. It's always fun to hear Rolf's stories and experiences. Thank you, Twaan for this interview.
This by far my favourite episode so far, as much as i loved The KLF, Jam & Spoon really sort of cemented my love for electronic music, I still to this day never have heard anything like Jam & Spoon, and finding out about Jams musical background comes as no surprise at all, he is beyond skilled!
I bought the Maxi Single as the song is one of my favourites (and is still today!). Playing it again and again and again... Then came the day I "accidently" played the B-side.... and listening and..... You cannot compare those both songs - both are unique but "Follow Me" was also one of my favourites from now... I still remember Markus' words to that track
Great interview, as always :) I completely agree with last thoughts of Jam El Mar, this is our music, if we are getting older, it doesn't mean that we have to stop enjoying in making and listening to this music, we just have to adapt a little bit and go a little bit easier, but I hope I'll be enjoying this music until the day I die (not soon hopefully)
I had the pleasure of meeting Nosie Katzmann last year in my hometown because he lives nearby. He performed some of the hits acoustic. Hey how could he brush over Nosie so fast? He was instrumental in this and many hits. I had the single back in the days.
I remember my older brother had their CD, Jam & Spoon - Tripomatic FairyTales, it didn't have a regular CD jewelcase, but this really cool, fold out cardboard case. It had a few tracks on there that are ingrained into my memory as a teen, including this.
The album Tripomatic Fairytales 2001 still sounds great and to this day you can hear very similar soundscapes it presents. As for the Asturias for piano, you may hear a bit on keyboards on "Catherine Of Aragon" by Rick Wakeman. :)

Well, there's always like 5 or 6 questions that are (almost) the same..... I mean, we want to know the story behind the track right? ;-) But the answers are always different. And not sure if you noticed it, but there are always specific questions that are focussed on the track I'm talking about or about the artist itself. I do spend a lot of time on research and preparing these interviews. But feel free to send me a bunch of suggestions for questions I can ask for future interviews. Keep in mind the focus is to find out about the story behind the track ;-) Looking forward to your answer and suggestions! :)
Well, I'm not a producer myself so my technical knowledge about equipment etc etc is very, very limited. There's other channels that really go in-depth about the actual production and all the technical details. However, I always try to ask which equipment was used and sometimes producers share a bit more as well. But I don't really feel like going more in-depth about it, simply because I don't have enough knowledge about it. Plus I started Muzikxpress, because I'm trying to find out about the stories behind the tracks I grew up with. I think 80 or 90% of the viewers aren't producers, so I don't want to make it all too technical either. I'll leave that up to the channels who focus on the actual production of tracks, with my very basic knowledge I just don't really think I should ask questions about things I don't know anything about. I'm not comfortable with that ;-) Hope you understand! :)
Thanks for the reply.I did grow up in 80 and 90.I am in fact I am a producer living in UK considering to do some remixes of old tracks. It would be beneficial for some wanting to do remixes based on old sound machines. Maybe one day, but I have such a long waiting list for now that I don't add new people to it. There's a lot of interviews lined up for 2023 already, plus right now I simply don't have any travel budget left for trips abroad. So for now I can only do interviews with people who live nearby or with artists that visit The Netherlands. I don't think I've ever seen Groove Coverage performing in The Netherlands though..... Maybe one day, but for now I don't see it happen any time soon. My main focus (there's always exceptions of course) I focus more on tracks from the 80s / 90s. Just being honest! This is just a hobby for me and my time and travel budget are limited.
@@muzikxpress they performed once in Holland a couple years ago
@@GCRoofi1996 so chances for an interview are very slim as you can see…
@@muzikxpress maybe because Hands Up/Dancecore was never very popular type of music in Holland. The only Dutch Hands Up producer I know is Danceboy(Silver Nikan)
The bassline sounds like the PVD mix of Love Stimulation. Coincidence?
12:03 Previously it was a truck, now it is an Ambulance...(Or Police...) 😀
I thought it was JV/JD's guitar
I thought JV1080, but glad i now know it was Akai S1000
@@SparkAttack86 AKAI with samples from JV? )) The Akai have almost no high-quality branded libraries of their own. Almost everything is resampled from other synthesizers and romplers.
@@EuroDJ Very likey. As with the percussion the castanet sample in the track waz sampled

A good choice would be to let "Estas Tonne" play the guitar(s) !
It sounds like a HARPSICORD
we all get older.
