    In this video I will show you how to easily test a car battery and find out if it needs replacing. Most car batteries will last 4-6 years and usually it will show signs of end of life when you notice the vehicle struggles to start. You should have the battery tested and determine if you need a new battery. I this video I will show you everything you need to know about replacing a car battery.

    I am laughing because I literally did the same thing last night. Changed to a Walmart ever start battery and used a electronics battery analyzer to check the old battery, in my 2017 nissan rogue, great video my friend.

    Much better commentary than many other videos. Also good safety practices. NOTE that the temperature of the battery strongly influences the cold-cranking amps, internal resistance, and voltages. NOT sure if these testers actually account for this, but at least get the tester to roughly the same temperature as the battery. They are probably made to work in "normal" garage environments, which is NOT typical in Alaska, or north of the 40th, in winter. GM engineer Ret.

    Thanks for the video. I have been looking at upgrading my battery tester from the load tester type to a similar one shown here. There seems to be quite the variation in results between the testers... Both testers (AB101/BT500PRINT)) read similar voltage (12.46 \12.4V) , but the SOH (20%/55%) , SOC (75%/66%) , measured CCA (280/400) and internal resistance (12.04/7.48 mohm) are all different. Maybe some variation could be attributed to you starting the car between using the testers but certainly not all the variation seen. Would be interesting to see the values when both testers are connected at the same time to see the actual difference between the meters (i.e., no starts between meters readings). So which tester is more accurate? The difference between SOH, measured CCA, and internal resistance is to be noted... In this case both suggested battery replacement, but if you had charged the battery to the 12.7V, would the recommendation still have been the same? I could see a case where if the measured CCA was slight higher they might give different recommendations.. you might be replacing your battery earlier than needed... I guess small price to pay for peace of mind. Glad to see you have a battery insulator too. You could add an aftermarket one (e.g. the DEI or AOPC) to your existing one if you have the space. The reflective coating will add further protection from radiant heat. Though it doesn't do anything to stop the heat soak when you turn off the car. My car battery usually lasted 2-2.5 years and didn't have an insulator. I have added one similar to the DEI and hope to extend battery life.

    Great job making the video and demo. I wonder if a Noco Genius 5 or 10 Charger could repair the old battery and desulfate it? I use a Pulse Tech PowerPulse passive desulfator, they claim to have a patented frequency they use to desulfate batteries, I have been using it on my BMW battery for the past three years and never have any issue's starting even though I only drive about 25 miles per week.

    @dial2fast how is your Honda Odyssey AGM battery ? Very recently while on accessory mode (HD radio) within 5 minutes it won’t start. Happened twice. Battery is 3 yrs old in my Honda Odyssey touring 2019(the top tier). You have 2018 Honda Odyssey top tier.

      I also have a 2019 Elite, and the battery has been good. For a period of time, I did use it to power my dash camera in parking mode (ignition off), and that seem to drain the battery faster than usual. I did have to test & charge it a few times and the battery is good after it's fully charged with a battery charger. This is the tester/charger I am currently using ruclips.net/video/SwAbtFy0hDA/видео.html

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  3 года назад +1

      I like it a lot. The new SUV design style of the Rogue and Pathfinder are very sharp looking. Nissan SUV usually have a more solid feel than the Honda and Toyota. Will see if they maintain that attribute in the new design.

    My car wouldn’t start if I charge my phone and when I keep light on for 10 or 15 minutes. It down to 9-10 volts. Do I need to change it immediately? And when I jumped it, it back to 13.5v. Is that ok or it has alternator issue also?
    My battery is 4/2019 Costco but from different owner and I don’t know if I still can return it.
