@@JohnSmith-zv8km Yes, in a perfect world, that would be correct. We have guns because some people choose to assault others. They usually are bigger, stronger, meaner, and tougher than their chosen victims. Often they are armed with some type of a weapon, which could be a knife or a club, or simply their natural bodily weapons of hands and feet. It is possible to injure, maim, disable and kill people with one's own body. Guns are equalizers that allow weaker people to defend themselves against stronger ones. Even before guns were invented, people fought and killed one another with various types of weapons. Would banning all guns work? Well, street drugs are illegal; did they go away? No, because if criminals want something badly enough, they will find a way to get it. Banning guns would disarm the law abiding citizens but the criminals would have them smuggled into the country just as the drugs are. Then the citizens would be at a much greater disadvantage, especially in rural areas where police response can be 30 minutes or more. The world is an imperfect place, which is why we have police, fire fighters, paramedics, hospitals, prisons, drug rehabs, and guns. Regulating guns in order to minimize the risk of criminals abusing them is better than banning them and making them available only to professional criminals.

How often is anyone shot in the UK and why is that?
@@IMGreg.. there's more stabbings in the UK than shootings in the Us per capita. Why is that ?!
@@themishmish101 The total number of UK knife murders each year isn't too far off the total number of US gun murders in a _week._
The US's murder rate dwarfs every other developed nation and it's kinda crazy you don't know that.
@@themishmish101 - The prohibition of firearms has certainly changed the modus operandi of criminals in the UK, but some manage to get guns just the same. The reality, as you obviously know, relates to the deliberately misinterpreted constitutional amendment and resulting gun culture of the USA.
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
In the context of raising a militia, it makes perfect sense. Taken out of context...well that's just good business and an invitation to keep disproportionally powerful weapons in free circulation...resulting in gun culture and higher violent crime rates...and dangerous AF when idiots don't lock up their guns but sleep with them...because criminals are likely to be armed too...it's now a catch-22.
In the U.S. The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian award, along with the Congressional Gold Medal. Unfortunately, the standards typically applied for those awards are unlikely relevant to this man's single heroic act.

Of course if no one had guns the incident would not have happened, just a thought.

BRAVO to the Motorist!! It takes a LOT of courage to do the right thing and PULL THE TRIGGER when the situation calls for it!!
And the clarity of the thought to use Officers Radio to get helicopter help there in a hurry WOW
I know it was like he had some sort of training, I was blown away with the way that he handled all of this, and, you know, he's probably gonna suffer from PTSD, but without him, this police officer would definitely be dead, I mean, he shot the officer twice and then started beating him. It's like he was trying to torture him I'm really glad this guy came along I hate that he's going to have to deal with this for the rest of his life. A lot of people are saying, he's probably gonna go to prison. I don't know why they're saying that of course he's not he's a hero, I don't know why people are saying that.
