In favour of destroying western civilization, eastern blocs and SJW are pushing their agendas down our throats with political characters. I like tokyo ghoul, but too everyone's asian, I prefer apolitical works.
I sometimes feel like the author originally tried to write a more grim ending but ended up liking his characters so much along the way that he wanted them to be happy
That’s actually exactly what happened. Originally Ishida planed a “train wreck” ending since he felt that was what people wanted and expected to happen. But he felt that part 1 already ended as a tragedy and decided to give re a happy ending instead
@@fkk2567 where did you hear that? I can’t confirm that statement (edit): Found it. Author did indeed say something along those lines. Changed the ending so it was something that would make him happy. Not happy as in satisfied with his work, but happy as in just the vibes :)
Probably but I'm glad that we got this ending. Sure, it was kinda rushed but why let these characters suffer even more? The way the ending is now makes me feel like this journy was worth it and that after all this shit they went through the characters finally found peace
@Joey exactly, also thats why when kaneki asked furuta “why me” he started laughing and called him egocentric cause in furutas pov kaneki is just a random nobody, just a pawn to achive his goal. Very few villains in general get to achive what they want and furuta is one of them for sure.

You could clearly tell by how rushed events were after the Arima fight. I would have preferred if he just took a long vacation but I'm glad Ishida gave us an ending. Really sad how overworked the dude was and just wanted the work to be over.
@@carlosdanielcalderonmontoy3723 i've constantly heard talk about how it's rushed, but when i read it the ending was honestly really satisfying to me. I was extremely happy with it
It still blows my mind that the man took no breaks during that whole run besides the holidays that every other mangaka takes. Honestly glad he is still passionate about his job
Tokyo ghoul is one of my favourite manga series of all time, but sadly the author got depressed and lost his passion for the series after the second arima fight. You can really see how a Lot of characters get wasted towards the end like uta and roma. Especially with uta who was speculated to be the original one eyed king and even hinted at by sui ishida, and then at the end we don't even get to see the original one eyed king. But all in all I hope that he can give us another great Story with superhuman X.
Ehhh that's false lol Ishida never lost his passion for the series, he even said in his interview that he loved TG, he just got tired of working a lot and he became ill. That's why the end was rushed(But still most of his characters weren't wasted, Uta had an incredible ending for example). Also, all that thing about Uta being the og OEK were just internet theories that never actually were relevant in TG(Ishida only hinted it as a random possibility but never developed it, like that theory abour Kaneki being raped).
@@NUKCYNDv I legit believed/can see Kaneki being abused by Yamori. I am sure it wasn’t intended that way but this one vid where they pointed out a manga panel with an X-ray that shows the places he healed the most damage and his hips were heavily damaged. I think Sui meant that damage was from using Kagune a lot or something but that always got me. Plus them showing Yamori’s prior victim being nude and his genitals covered specifically kinda gave that vibe.
@@AzayBae I mean, sure, there's nothing wrong with that and is a nice theory, but is just that, a theory that doesn't really have depth nor is important to the series(And that's perfectly fine, that's what they are for and I for example have fun with them) but the problem is that people took them too seriously. You can see in all these comments that some people actually think some characters were wasted and that Ishida burned out for that just bc of random theories lol Even after Ishida himself already cleared up that twice
Tokyo Ghoul is a great Manga but it's one of those where to have to read it twice, if a person who just started reading Manga read this, I'm 80% sure the story would lose him, due to so much things happening
That's not actually true. He originally thought about a tragic ending, but as he wrote the series he realized that it wasn't necessary, so he changed it, not in the last minute, but waaay before the story enters its final arc. He said thia in his final letter if I'm not mistaken.
@@NUKCYNDv It was pretty last minute. He planned on Kaneki dying with Dragon, but he changed it right before. So everything after Kaneki came out wasn't planned. He even tried to ask Shonen Jump to give him more chapters, but they refused since they already announced the series was ending. Edit: Direct Quotes: "I’d originally planned to finish it December of last year, but I said, “I’m sorry, I need another 3 months.” I increased the extension bit by bit, and I ended up lengthening it by about 6 months." @@someguyjohn6599 Exactly, but that was not last minute xd He was already taking that decision before the war arc, and in that letter he mentioned that he changed his mind in the last years.
Towards the end of RE, the author was worn out and didn't really want to do the series anymore, but he still have it an ending, which is better than some things. Cough. Cough. The Hiatus X Hiatus monster trio.
@@KaiserReb it wasn't trash....it just wasnt as good as the pain arc and the bring back Sasuke arc. It had good moments, my personal favorite obito vs kakashi which is probably my favorite fight in the whole show honestly
@@MAR-sc7np the pain arc felt like the ending, the author admitted he had writers block after. The war arc( the hashi cells and bijuu arc) was just terrible. I felt like he actually reads vs versus battles
With Touka, you might have missed a lot of her development. A lot of her arc is mellowing out. She starts the series in her late teens and is in her 20s by the end. She grows up, especially from TG to TG Re. And speaking to things, Ishida was a bit exhausted by the end of writing. It had gotten to the point where he was exhausted and overworked. He actually wrote a fairly extensive apology for how the series ended. And finally, the anime adaptation. Yeah, it is a mess. The problem is just how much the animators didn't care about including details. The fact that Kaneki touches his chin when he lies is almost a nonfactor in the anime, because he barely ever does it. And that isn't even touching on all the shit that is foreshadowed by tarot cards and framing. The anime never cared to show us even a fraction of that. And then there is the event changing. Remember how just after Jason, Kaneki split off from the main group? Not anymore. See wouldn't it be edgier if he randomly joins the antagonists for a while? Oh yeah and let's get rid of that lame raid on doctor Kanou's lab. You know the guy who turned him into a ghoul and he probably has a lot to say to? And that ending? Phhh. I think what it's missing is a nonsensical trounce through the city carrying Hide's dead body while Kaneki is desperately hungry from a mortal injury. Yeah they cut the sewer scene and his fight vs Arima. So much wrong that it broke future events.
I think people compare the anime and manga too much, the storyline is so different its less of an adaptation and more of a alternative continuation. I see what you mean tho
I miss Tokyo Ghoul man, it’s a crying shame how the anime went. I was such a big fan just like I was with Magi back when both those series were like at the top of their game. The only thing is that Tokyo Ghoul was very all over the place when the anime came out and just kinda killed my interest in it. It’s sad to say that too because I remember the feelings that the series really struck within me, like berserk this was one of the few mangas I rarely was effected by and I have such fond memories of the journey. I really gotta finish Tokyo Ghoul: Re.
Am I the only one who enjoys the anime of course I love the manga but I never go into the anime thinking it’s gonna be the same as the manga I enjoy the anime for what it is
@@netero6751 that’s the point of most animes is to adapt the source material because it’s literally why the anime exists so you expect it to be done well. But idk I enjoyed the first season, questioned the second because it was just kinda not right, and then after that I just stopped watching.
this is a minor detail i just learned but Eto's mother ate human flesh in order to feed unborn Eto. The anime never explained that minor detail, which i feel was important to emphasize the love that a ghoul and a human can have. i just finished the anime and theres prob a shit ton of more things that were felt out.
Your last sentence is absolutly correct. And even the first (good) season left many things out;) But Root A oh boi..... Even Re made things more "anime like" which I thought in some cases to be really bad...... (If I remember correctly Touka stays like in the room while Kaneki fights Juuzou and later on the Oggai and is to boot in reach of Mutsuki,so how Touka even survives this in the anime is beyond me, because everyone there would/should/and at this point probably could kill her) But yeah Root A takes the cake in changed or unadapted details.
I felt like I was reading four different stories in one. The ghouls, the ccg and the perspective shift that happens in TG re:. It's a shame the anime couldn't capture this feeling.
Honestly this was one of my favorites for a long time and I still love it regardless of the decline in the community’s perception of the story. I’m happy you read this.
Tokyo Ghoul was actually a massive life changer for me. I got introduced into it with the s1 anime. Started the Manga right away. Because of this series one thing lead to another and it helped me in various ways, from introducing me into the cosplay world, meeting important friends and even lead to me meeting who I now call my wife (almost had our wedding in their actual outfits just not enough time... Made them a year later though haha). I know this series has its flaws but it's truly a masterpiece for me.
Both Tokyo Ghoul and :re started off very slowly for me. I found the paneling to be quite poor and :re had issues trying to balance 30+ characters all at once, but they both eventually grew on me and I think they are both masterpieces in their own way. I think they'll be even better after a proper reread.
Tokyo Ghoul's Re "good ending" isn't really "good". Kaneki wanted to change the world, and break the birdcage. He wasn't able to do either, there's a pretty good chance that Japan will either be the only area for both ghoul and human or it will revert to pre-dragon war at some point.
I think the research stuff and kaneki being alive and no one could kill him if they start fighting again is the reason ( also there is the 2. Child wich is the most powerful in theory)
I know what you mean and I kinda agree. But, since this is a manga after all by "The world" it most likely only meant Japan as that's usually the case for most Japanese works.
Depends. After the artificial ghoul food was developed, it might be implemented all around the world. There will 100% be a lot of ghouls who don't want to eat that so there will be a huge war. There might be a lot more kakujas. I bet the One eyed king is known outside of Japan as well, and he has a Kakuja. Rumours from Tokyo, that cannibalizing makes you stronger and provides a kakuja, would probably spread and as a result make more kakuja ghouls. Kaneki loses probably.
Why would you come to that conclusion? The way things ended up, the ghouls and humans of Japan are an example for the rest of the world and they proof that they can live in not only coexistence but even cooperation. Synthetic food can allow ghouls to live entirely peacefully and there is no reason why that progress wouldn't be shared with the rest of the world. It's not all fine and dandy, but for what it's worth, Kaneki succeded completely in his main goals. Those he loves from both sides can live peacefully together and can have a future and he succeded in being the bridge between both worlds to make this possible. It was a messy way to get there, but it's still a good, happy ending imo.
Plisss read Jigokuraku (Hell's Paradise), it's an shonen jump+ manga (it's shonen but have some seinen stuff that makes it a sirious story) that not a lot of people know about. Its about a shinobi call Gabimaru the empty that is sentenced to death, but in the moment of his punishment, the executor told him that he could live if he goes to an island (with other criminals) that is supposed to be the paradise and he takes from there Life Elixir. If he takes it and he takes it to the shogun, he is free of every crime. The island is full of mistery, the characters are really entertainment to watch and the art style is unique and dark. Is in my top 3 mangas, having vagabond at number 2 and berserk at number 1. In my over all opinon is a hidden gem and should need more attention. (if I wrote something wrong or I had explained bad, sorry I'm Spanish and even understanding a lot of English Im not too good at explaining)
Same it honestly was my first manga that I've read. I read a couple of random chapters of Dragon ball and Naruto a few years pryor but TG was definitly the first story I read start to finish. Then I caught up to Re at the end of the Tsukiyama arc and after chapter 68 of Re the start of the Cochlea raid I read it weekly until the end.
I think the way Tokyo Ghoul’s manga is so chaotic and « rough » around the edges make it even better because of the premise of the story itself. The ending wasn’t perfect and Sui Ishida knows it, but I’m not mad after all. It’s still my favorite manga ever since I was 11 and I’m almost 20 now. It’s a very melodramatic and sometimes edgy universe, but I love it. Idk it just has its own overall feel that I enjoy diving into so much. It’s also good to remember that between Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul ; RE, a few years have passed and Toka’s change seems mostly to be because she accepted things of her past and just matured from the angry teenager she was to a more refined version of herself.
Seriously the series keeps getting better till the near end, i didn't expect to be that good tbh (especially Tokyo Ghoul: re), hope they will reboot the anime series soon, because they really ruined the manga.
The thing that I love about Tokyo ghoul is the melodrama and the chaos. It’s sort of like real life in a way- everyone’s been through something, and existence is chaos. It reflects real life and peoples stories in a perfectly perverted/distorted way.
I feel like TG was meant to end as a tragedy. That last bit almost feels straight from Ishida where Uta says "no one likes a tragedy these days". It really does seem, and has been rumored that there was interference with Jump due to its popularity at the time
God I remember in 2014 watching the first episode of the anime and trying to tell my friends to watch it (it wasn’t popular yet). Nostalgic seeing someone talk about it
I’m glad you said it’s hard to understand what’s going on during the fighting scenes. Tokyo Ghoul is the only manga I’ve read, other than a little bit of One Piece after watching the anime. 90% of the time when I see a fight scene in this series I’m left wondering what’s going and sometimes can’t even tell what I’m looking at,
The story is perfect to me in every way. I don't think its fast-paced at all aside from him turning to Sasaki. We didn't really get much from how it happened. It seems you don't appreciate it much.
So for like more than a month ago I started watching anime and then I read and finished Tokyo ghoul and Tokyo ghoul:re last week (I started that week also) and man it's great it holds a special place in my heart as being the first manga I ever read and just bc its so freaking good
Tokyo Ghoul is my favorite manga of all time. Kaneki is my #1 protagonist & Furuta, Eto, Amon, Arima, Suzuya etc are all in my top 10 antags and side characters. The art is amazing, there is so much character growth and fleshed out stories, it's a great and unique world, thematically brilliant as you said and so much more.
I’ve just finished TG manga. It’s perplexing because it feels like it was laying some decent foundations for the first 50 chapters but then it steamrolls to its ending.
Bruh by the time Kaneki was like on the verge of death for the 4th time I was like dude this guy never gets a fucking break. I'm just relieved it ended mostly on a positive note, TG ending negatively would've just been shitty imo. We also need a good anime adaptation.
The entire Tokyo Ghoul manga is a masterpiece. I think I reread this series a couple of times. Don´t be fooled or compare the manga to the anime. This series cannot be adapted properly just like Berserk.
I feel like there’s just too many characters and back stories I don’t care about in tg. Other than the Q squad, arima, and juzo all the other investigators just cluttered the whole series with names and back stories which aren’t memorable. I really liked the manga but there just wasn’t enough focus in a certain direction. I think what I love about berserk is the simplicity of guts and his objective.
The thing with Tokyo ghoul and Kaneki’s development. Since it uses a lot of Irl things like Marie Antoinette syndrome. Since that’s how it come to happen for the change of his hair color. His hair is symbolic. Give me a sec and I’ll add a video by Sufferents/Dressrosa. Maybe it’s because I see it in another light idk. This the vid I was talking about ruclips.net/video/uetfE8K8Yzk/видео.html Another is the circumstances Sui Ishida was in when he was writing Tg :re before it’s ending
kanekis hair change wasnt from marie antoinette syndrome, i cant remember where but somewhere it gets explained that rc cells cause change in hair colour much like how they change the colour of the eyes. after his torture with jason his rc count gets massively boosted which causes the change in hair colour
@@no.7893 yeah Ik, but what I’m saying is that it’s based on some Irl aspects integrated in the series. Not that they say that’s what happens In the series
Thought this video was a great summary of how I felt about the whole series. The ending left a lot to be desired but overall the series was great. The only thing I would disagree about is your opinion on Touka's relationship with Kaneki. At the beginning of the story, I don't think she hated him but just had a hard time trusting him. However, after the Dove arc, she definitely started warming up to him. She saves him with the Tsukiyama arc and tried to fight off Yamori when he was kidnapped. She also really wanted to save him during the Aogiri arc and was really worried about him. Sure, she acts like an ass when she talks to him but I think that's just her way of interacting with him (my friends and I sometimes act like assholes to each other) but I don't think she hated him at the beginning. Though, I do think that what happened in chapter 125 (you know what scene it was lol) was a bit too sudden and too fast though ngl. Anyway, my crappy rant is over. Really enjoyed the video though! Definitely gonna share this to my anime-only friends (which sucks cuz TG anime sucks except for S1).
Sorry for this... There are 4 main points that I disagree with. 1. The predictability of tragic backstories. 2. The implementation and representation of characters like Hide. 3. The non-suffering of consequences for character's actions. 4. Touka's and Kaneki's relation and why she changed so much in between stories. I'll most likely combine 1 & 3 here: So as far as the predictability of backstories & why people don't face much consequences is supposed to speak to the overall theme of the story. Which is revealed near the end with the panel of the world stating, "The world isn't wrong. It just is." Which directly opposes how Kaneki starts the story along with every other character believing the other side (ghoul or human) were wrong. Everyone has a tragic backstory because of the world that holds them because everyone views it as wrong. Ghouls eat humans for food or humans hunt ghouls to protect humans, and as we know that isn't always fully true. Rize would kill because she wanted too, Kureo Mado would kill ghouls to rid of them, and they both killed because they saw it fit and had fun. The tragic backstories and not suffering consequences were supposed to show that the world was wrong because people lost their loved ones, and that ghouls and humans paralleled each other so much because of that. But as the story continues it opts to take a depressing, but true route. People have died for reasonings such as "protecting", "fun", and "for the betterment". But now that they're gone it just is. Everyone has their reasoning for everything. As much as we blame others, sometimes we can't do anything about it. The world just is. Answering of 2: The reason why there aren't more characters like Hide is because he's symbolic. He represents Kaneki's humanity and his ties to the human world. The beginning of the story serves to represent the viewpoint of ghouls. His world is shattered when he becomes a ghoul and he doesn't tell Hide because he's afraid that he will reject him just as he does himself. His only tie to humanity; his one true friend. And as the story continues he cuts himself off from Hide because he sees himself as nothing more than a ghoul. But as Hide comes back at the end of TG , Kaneki's tie to the human world is brought back, and is reminded of so. And inturn kicks off TG: re. Answering 4: As far as Touka and Kaneki's relationship it was shown since the beginning. Even though Touka had a disliking toward Kaneki because of his origins at the beginning it quickly changed once he slowly embraced his ghoul side more. I don't remember exactly when but there was a small scene where either one blushed because of the other's actions. And a small shipping the author created when they virtually became Hinami's parents making Kaneki a more friendly and motherly figure and Touka a more stern and fatherly figure. And as to why she changed so much between series was because of the ending. In TG she loses muitple people she has strong emotional connection with. She loses a father figure, a possible love interest, and Anteiku. Her entire life as she knows it has been destroyed and compromised because of the CCG. And in TG: re she now becomes the figure head of Anteiku. Having to take care of everything the old man did. Food, boarders, protecting, disturbing food, and whatever more it entails. She also had to come to terms with many deaths in a year or less, and take the mantle nobody else would. Simply maturing from a angsty teenager. To now a more refined woman.

I wish Tokyo Ghoul stayed as a monthly series. I had a feeling this was going to happen when it became weekly with re.
Ehhh that's false lol
Ishida never lost his passion for the series, he even said in his interview that he loved TG, he just got tired of working a lot and he became ill.
@@NUKCYNDv I agree, also, I didn't even feel the ending rushed🤔🤔

the author said the ending was supposed be a trainwreck type of ending and very tragic but last minute he decided to give readers a happy ending.
Edit: Direct Quotes: "I’d originally planned to finish it December of last year, but I said, “I’m sorry, I need another 3 months.” I increased the extension bit by bit, and I ended up lengthening it by about 6 months."

He was already taking that decision before the war arc, and in that letter he mentioned that he changed his mind in the last years.

I LOVED THE MANGA
I really am emotionally connected to it!
That thumbnail is looking really good bro
Both Tokyo Ghoul and :re started off very slowly for me. I found the paneling to be quite poor and :re had issues trying to balance 30+ characters all at once, but they both eventually grew on me and I think they are both masterpieces in their own way. I think they'll be even better after a proper reread.
My man! Favorite manga of all time, watching this after work but I hope you enjoyed it bro
But he did that xd
He could create peace, now it just has to spread.
"She hated his guts, but he ended up in hers" I really hope I get a chance to say that in a conversation someday!

So as far as the predictability of backstories & why people don't face much consequences is supposed to speak to the overall theme of the story.
Answering of 2:
The reason why there aren't more characters like Hide is because he's symbolic.
Answering 4:
As far as Touka and Kaneki's relationship it was shown since the beginning. To now a more refined woman.
i got super hyped up after watching season 1 & 2 . But tokyo ghoul:re & re 2nd season slaped me hard.
i think the masked man has read so many of the greats that he's been desensitized to anything that isn't perfect, he's extremely critical and i think its ruined the experience for some of the lower quality manga that can be enjoyed just as much as some of the greats
I love this Series to death and I’ve only watched the anime, rn I’m buying the manga vols and all that but season 1 and 2 were amazing for me, they made sense and didn’t feel rushed, season 3 and part2 made me feel disappointed but also relieved and glad he got a happy ending
I prefer Tokyo Ghoul compared to Re just cause Re can get a bit confusing
I never read tg but I heard it's amazing if you read it the 2nd time
I'm so glad you covered tokyo ghoul its one of my personal favorite manga. It was the first manga I read. Its a shame the ending was rushed but its understandable since sui ishida was having massive burnout writing tokyo ghoul every week though I'm super hyped for his new upcoming manga Superman x
If you ever have the spare time, read it again. Everytime I read through, I seem to enjoy it even more than the last time.
Great video as always, i would really like to see a manga review for innocent.
No matter what you say about the anime or manga, you still crack your fingers like kaneki and yamori
Can we appreciate how at 5:45 he's mostly talking about Tooru Mutsuki and I love that character that much it is amazing for me just to have him talk about her
Did your read to the end? Because Tooru is…
…let’s say I find her hard to imagine someone liking her… even with their redemption part.
Readed to the end, fell in love with that crazy Villain Tooru that was hidden inside of her at the beggining of the manga, tho I know she needs therapy That wont stop me From loving her
