He's so cute! His blue color is stunning under the aquarium lights. I appreciate that you got a short-finned male, as it's a lot easier for them to swim, and obviously they can be just as beautiful.
Depends on the beta really, I have a snail who’s white large haha ,, my make beta would always pick on him! So I moved my snail to my female bettas tank and they’re coexisting peacefully.
I think the film is a new tank thing. I think it’s left over oils from things that are In the tank. I’ve seen in videos you put like a paper towel on the top of the water and it quickly sokes up some of the oils with water. Just make sure there’s no paper towel in your fish tank 😂
“I spent 63 dollars,, on a fish,, yes I did!” Lmao totally me with my Pac-Man frog. My family was like “you could’ve literally gotten one for 20 bucks” but WHY support big chain stores when you have the money to support quality breeding programs? Your fish is beautiful! I have a koi plakat female 😊 I love the short finned betta, personally!
I’m ordering mine on Friday 🥰 my hubby also thinks I’m nuts. He gave me $300 for Xmas and asked if it was enough for everything for my planted tank including the fish. I told him yes 🥺
a little tip for ordering fish online, its probably better to float the bag and get them in the tank as soon as you can after opening the bag because after days of being in the bag theres a lot of ammonium, and when oxygen hits the water the ph spikes and the ammonium turns into ammonia. this isnt really a problem buying fish from a store though because their in there for such a small amount of time
I've had a bunch of bettas in the past, I love them! For tank mates, snails and shrimp are great for bettas. Also corys/ottos can be good since they tend to stay at the bottom. All of these can be good for algae issues too. Such a pretty guy. One of my past bettas was named Sushi so my vote is that!
He's cute! I would name him tofu , IMO i would just get nerite snails (will help with the algae), i have a crowntail male betta in a 15g tank and made the mistake to add more tankmates cause he seemed not aggresive as he was fine with a mystery snail, added ghost shrimp and neon tetras and he became very territorial even though the tank was planted for hiding spots it didnt help he chassed them all the time and ate some of the ghosties, now he has his own bachelor 10g tank
I love your new betta fish! For the oily film, I've used a paper towel and sponge before as well. It is totally normal, but sometimes can trap out oxygen I believe. Congrats on your new pretty fishy!
For your algae I recommend 1 single nerite snail :) They poop a lot but it gets taken care of with your weekly siphoning anyway. Nerites can only hatch in brackish water. So they can't multiply. And nerites are herbivores... while any other snail species is a carnivore or omnivore. So nerites are by far the best for eating algae and decaying plant matter. They won't eat live healthy plants if they're healthy, they will only eat unhealthy plants. Also that film is from your filter. It looked like your water level was a bit too high. Make sure the water remains underneath the top lip of your filter there.
That film at the top is biofilm! It's not a bad thing, but the only concern with it is that it might prevent the water from being aerated enough. It's fixable with surface agitation, so either having the filter output actually breaking up the surface or getting some sort of bubbler
I have shrimp, a mystery snail, cory catfish, 6 cardinal tetras and 3 loaches. Havent had any issues with them and my king betta. Lots of plants and i recommend the coconut hides.
I’ve had good luck with African dwarf frogs and corydoras catfish, (albinos) , and White Cloud Mountain minnows. Honestly have had Betta fish for a long time and a couple of mine have had good relationships with these for tank mates. :):):) do what feels right for your Betta!!!
I would add a bubbler/wand in there to help when the film and also to add more oxygen to his water since they do have their labyrinth organ that needs air. It’s quite the swim to the top for him to draw a breath of air due to the height of your tank, so more air would be good. Also, fin rot is a symptom of poor water conditions and not related to length of fins, so as long as you keep the water pristine, you’ll be fine.
Harlequin Rasboras and Ember Tetras are awesome tank mates for Bettas! My most successful and happy Bettas have all had them! They are super small fish so the betta’s are not threatened and typically do amazing!
If you want tankmates I’ve had the best results with bottom dwelling fish like Cory cats or plecos. Also snails and shrimp are great testers to make sure you don’t have an aggressive fish.
To get rid of the algae and biofilm I’d recommend a Nerite or Mystery Snails. Some Bettas seem to love tank mates like my last Betta did, however, some Bettas are kinda jerks and relentlessly pick on anything in the tank.
Such a beautiful fish ! If you do plan on getting tank mates I would get them soon as they do become territorial. Snails shrimp and a little school of fish would be great!
Oh my goodness! He is absolutley adorable! For some tank mates I hear mini shrimp are great as well! They love moss balls that help with the fish poop. :D They also stay on the bottom and won't bother the fishie! :D Have a great weekend! Cant wait for more videos :)
I loved this video and your new boy! I ordered my first betta fish from an online source the other day and I get my gorgeous girl in July. This is making me excited 😂
I got a new beta fish the other day aswell!! I wanted one but it was 25-30.. which might not seem a lot but for me it was I found a really pretty male in the end tho
Beautiful fish! i would suggest getting one or two nerite snails maybe bumblebee and one or two amano shrimp to help with algea, the secret is to have a lot of hiding places. and to help with the biofilm, get s silent adjustable air stone, this is what i got to help with the circulation.
Quick Note : I don’t know everything about this but I do know that artificial decorations can shorten the lifespan of your fish or in extreme cases kill it.
To keep algae at bay you can get a snail or shrimp, they can help the decode clean!! Idk what the film is, but the cleaning from the snails and/or shrimp might help.
I have a betta in with snails and shrimp, so far it hasn't eaten any of the shrimp. He was kind of a rescue from a friend who couldn't house him. So far so good!
wow beautiful fish, i'm thinking about ordering from them soon. has your fish had any problems since the unboxing? i watched simply bettas videos on this place and noticed some of the fish seem to get sick a week or two after purchase and dont wanna just buy one for it to die in the next month?
Be careful with your castle decor you don’t want any of his fins to tear. Also, it’s pretty common in the hobby to stay clear of any artificial decor. It’s best to decorate with live plants. If you don’t have substrate, use water column plants. Floaters and Anubias is great for a beginner. Your betta is so handsome. Sending some love❤️.
Hi! Gorgeous fish and I’d say definitely try out some tank mates! Just have a backup tank ready to go, maybe some cardinal tetras, Otos, or Cory cats??
I know this is an old video, but don't acclimate a fish that is being shipped like this. You can acclimate them to temperature but you need to get them out of the water immediately because the water in the bag will ammonia spike as soon as it's exposed to air. You also do not want unknown water to go into your tank. Acclimate to temperature and then empty the bag over a fish net and immediately add the fish to the tank.
I have kept plenty of male bettas with tank mates over the 8 years I have owned them. My main tank mates I keep are Cory catfish, Neon tetras, Snails, One of my males I keep with female guppies as their fins a shorter then the male ones. One trick I learnt is when you get the tank mates, remove the make betta first and move some ornaments around. Then add the tank mates in let them settle and after 20 minutes add the male betta back it, this stops him from claiming territory it has always worked for me. :) By the way your boy is stunning ❤️
My bettas name is mochi! He has snails, tetras, and rasboras with him and they are totally amicable! He is a very calm boy tho. If he wants alone time he will take a nap in his pagoda. It's super cute.
Hi l love your videos you have helped me so much sorry I’m getting some ginny pigs soon do u recommend two boys or two girls thank you I appreciate it :)
The film at the surface of the water means that some type of imbalance is in the tank. Like some nutrients are out of place or something. And it blocks gas exchange to come into the tank so stirring it up is only a temporary solution. You need to find out by testing your water what you need to fix. Just some helpful info!
When I bought my hornwort plant foe the tank, baby snails came with it and I didn’t even realize. So I just bought a couple mystery snails and one other species and they’ve thrived.
i work at an undisclosed pet store and we have some pretty betas BUT none as pretty as the ones on Coastels website great pick fishy looks healthy and very active, what my job doesn't have are Giant beta's or kings and this website does... .3. i'm really gonna spend 60bucks on a fish aren't I? EDIT: ALSO another thing i like about costal is that packing job, is wonderful i'm assuming if you order more than one fish it maybe different but for a single fish order that bag is MORE than enough room for a fish to be ok and not...squished
I read that guppies and a couple other fish can be with male bettas in an appropriately sized tank lol. I work at meijer and when we get fish orders the bettas have been alive from my experience. We have baby guppies I pulled out of the bottom filtration system and I wantttttt them lol
I have tank mates with my beta they are black Molly’s and they have worked really good so far i made it to where if my beta wants to get away he can hide fish that like to stay in groups are good. Your beta is beautiful! Love your channel!
its a beautiful betta 🙂im tempted to get a couple more bettas for my other cycling tanks lol , you should add some otto catfish to help keep the algae clean and there great with bettas
I ordered my betta from them a month ago but it turned out the one I ordered wasn't in-stock at their store. So they let me pick another one. I had him for a week now and he and I are so happy.
Nice they can have tank mates but they do better with schooling fish that have the same color neon tetras And Galaxy Rasbora are both good options They typically can't single out one of the fish since they swim in a group and he won't be able to tell them apart
I have ordered soo many bettas from coastgem. Their fish are always top notch! But it usually takes 3-4 weeks for them to ship out a fish. At least that has been my experience. But I'm ok with that.

He's so cute! His blue color is stunning under the aquarium lights. I appreciate that you got a short-finned male, as it's a lot easier for them to swim, and obviously they can be just as beautiful.
Snails are the best tank mates, betta dont need other fish. Let him be the star of the tank. 😊
you can have other fish without them taking the show, id recommend a small species of schooling fish, or maybe even shrimp
It depends on the Betta....ours ate the amano shrimp even after being fed. It just all depends.
Depends on the beta really, I have a snail who’s white large haha ,, my make beta would always pick on him! So I moved my snail to my female bettas tank and they’re coexisting peacefully.
All my betta fish have had plecos, Shrimp, Snails, Neon tetras. I seem to think they like company

20$ at a pet store chain? Damn never heard of that ... they cost $35+
@@PrincessSn6w my local petco has them for 20-30 dollars!
I got my stars & stripes male for $8 at Petco!

In the UK u can get them for about £5 🥺 it’s horrible
You're so well educated on your animals!! It's really admirable and I hope people learn from you
a little tip for ordering fish online, its probably better to float the bag and get them in the tank as soon as you can after opening the bag because after days of being in the bag theres a lot of ammonium, and when oxygen hits the water the ph spikes and the ammonium turns into ammonia. this isnt really a problem buying fish from a store though because their in there for such a small amount of time
I recommend floater plants, bettas love hiding in them
they also clean water and prevent film building up on top

All of these can be good for algae issues too. Such a pretty guy. One of my past bettas was named Sushi so my vote is that!
You can get a bubbler or a sponge filter that helps with the film on the water
probably not a bubbler bc bettas don’t like a lot of water movement
I second a sponge filter ❤ I have two bettas and they are amazing and help so much
@@notavailable1174 an air stone is fine as long as the pump it’s attached to is appropriate

I really like Kimchi, my mum had a betta and tank mates a small school, shrimps and a bottom cleaner, a ok got on really well.
He's so handsome 💙
he is worth the money. a handsome little darling.

I used to have a beta and he was able to have an algae eater and snails with him and he was fine with them so it's awesome to have tank mates.
He’s so cute!
You did a great job!!
Good luck with him!
❤️😊
Congratulations on you new betta Alyssa!!🥳 He is beautiful and he has the best life a betta could ask for with you! 😆🤩 have an amazing day! 🥰
I could watch a Livestream of him just swimming around lol so relaxing.
you can have tankmates, snails, tetras, and other tropical schooling fish can work

Hi! What camera do you use to film?
You change the decor by different holidays for your Guinea pigs sometimes.... do u think you will do that with the aquarium decorations?
what substrate do you use?
My betta is really docile and seems to enjoy the other fish but he is in a 30 gallon and only has a few platies and a snail in with him
Do you mind linking where you got him? Thank you
