Hi Howard and Katherine, I'm a trucker, for quick (fuel/oil filters) repairs or oil service look for "speedco" shops on the road they only do 18 wheelers and diesel rv's, usually no appointment needed. Generally they're where truck stops are.
Thank you SO much for the info! Funny enough, we did stop at a speedco attached to a loves but they were soo busy. They did give us a part to try to use but it didn't work 😅 but definitely good to know for future reference too. Thanks so much for watching!
I just saw someone post about this in my RV group on FB. If you are in HOT temps, they said that MB has a vapor lock. You need to untwist your gas cap really slow and release the vapors. Apparently the gas gets warm and builds pressure and ignition will not start. Wait a few minutes after releasing the vapors and it should start up. I had never heard of it, but other MB RV owners said they have and it worked for them. It’s worth a try. Good luck!
VERY interesting, Jerri! I'll have to try that, though I will tell you that it has happened only 50% of the time after a fill up (4 total times in 3 years, only common characteristic might be that it had been driven for quite a while and definitely the engine was hot?). Regardless, I'll be sure to open the cap slowly from now on and see if it happens again! Thanks so much for the advice and for watching. 👍 -Howard
@@NewstateNomads You’re welcome Howard. They said whenever their MB wouldn’t start, they would go and twist the cap, release the vapors and voila, it started. They said there is even a sticker that tells consumers to release cap slowly. It could be the issue... 🤷🏼♀️ Safe Travels. 😉
So sorry for your problems with your vehicle. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Hope all is well with you both! You can’t let anything get you down. I was laughing with you both earlier. I'm sorry for your problems. It sucks when you're stuck with vehicle problems. Mercedes-Benz are over engineered and complicated, just like all German vehicles. They are nice as long as they are running, once they break it will cost a lot of money and there are few places to have them repaired compared to American and Japanese vehicles. Sell your motorhome and buy a class C on a Ford Econoline chassis or a Transit which is more like your M-B, they are more dependable, cheaper to repair and more repair shops to work on them, and cheaper to buy. I always enjoy your videos and the delicious food you eat along the way.
Oh you guys never disappoint me! Such, such fun, minus the Sprinter problem! We haven’t had the “not starting” problem (watch, that will be our next issue!), but have had the slide not wanting to slide out…luckily, not sliding back in before we leave somewhere. I have a Bluetooth FIXD code reader I keep in my rig. Normally you can leave it plugged into most vehicles, but on my Sprinter RV (Monaco Covina) it is a little too big for the cover to fit over it. That said, I have gotten in the habit of plugging it in and getting a reading before departing. Takes about 3 mins. We are leaving on Friday for a 4 month trip from VA to CA so thanks for the tips on Sprinter mechanical "quirks". I had the same issue with the delayed starting yesterday (in the driveway) and I thought I had accidently drained the vehicle battery , so I hit the house battery cross connect switch and it started right up. Not saying we had the same issue but it did work.
Tim, thanks so much for the advice and recommendations! It's definitely a weird glitch, and for us it has happened I think only 4 times in 3 years. We have a similar switch on our Navion to "boost" from the house batteries, I might try that the next time it happens (though hopefully not for another 6-12 months! 😂 👍 -Howard
I was a little confused by your timeline: You were just outside Hannibal but going to a buffet in Tennessee? I love Clear Lake but sorry you were having such issues there. Hoping the rest of the trip got better.
I was clearly confused too, Jody 🤣 the buffet was in Iowa City. When I was making my graphics I got mixed up and we didn't realize it until the video was published. Thank you so much! We've had a few more challenges along the way, but there's a happy ending 🥰 thanks so much for watching! -Katelyn
My Chevy Malibu use to do the same thing and not start sometimes. A mechanic found it was the anti theft system locking out the ignition. It would prevent it from starting so a thief wouldn’t get it. No sure what caused it or if that’s the same thing.
Thanks! There's more to the engine repair story, lol. Tate's Hell is near Carrabelle, FL on the panhandle. They have a couple camping options, too! goo.gl/maps/rsxmVtm8ZeeiyPfGA
Check the starter relay switches. I think they are numbers 5&6. We had the same problem, changed out the relays and haven’t had any more starting issues….fingers crossed.
Stuart, very interesting! Just swap them for new relays? Would be great to get rid of the problem (granted its infrequent for us, but still) for good! 👍 -Howard
@@NewstateNomads We had the exact same problem you have; turn the key and nothing. Wait awhile and then it would start. It happened in a few scary places including while dry camping in the middle of the Bighorn Wilderness. Yes, swap them out and clear any codes that they might have thrown. I don’t have the wiring diagram with me so you will have to confirm the numbers for the two relays that make up the starter sequence. In our case, when we pulled the relays there was corrosion on the prongs and that was preventing the relays from making good electrical connection, thus no starting. At the same time, we also replaced the original battery in our 2008 Sprinter to make certain that a weakened battery wasn’t part of the problem. None of these parts are cheap but, hey, its a Mercedes. Knock on wood: we have not had any starting problems since. Pull out those relays and see what the prongs look like. If they look corroded, clean them or replace. Good luck!
Y’all sure are bold to drive across the entire country in a week! Is Canadian border still closed, but you can go through quickly to get to Alaska? Good to hear Scout is clear of heart worm! Hope the tummy trouble was just a bit of upset and cleared up quickly. Sorry about the engine troubles. 🐶

The starting issue use to happen to us back in the 90s when we had a brand new Isuzu Rodeo, but way more often than what you're dealing with. If memory serves me right, it was a faulty starter that also messed with computer system...sync wise. It was embarrassing...sitting at the gas station until it cranked. Often it took about 20 - 30 mins. LOL
Oh gosh! We feel your embarrassment 🤣🤣 especially if we're blocking another pump because we're so long. That's wild that it happened on your brand new vehicle too!
@@NewstateNomads yesss, so embarrassing isn't it...I so feel ya! I dug out our old paperwork, can't believe we still have it....it says it was a faulty ignition system EM. It also says sensor crank...if it helps, it's worth the share. Love your videos...ps, hubby is from Savannah, GA! 😊

None of these parts are cheap but, hey, its a Mercedes. Knock on wood: we have not had any starting problems since. Pull out those relays and see what the prongs look like. If they look corroded, clean them or replace. Good luck!
Love you guys✌️
Aww thanks Dave!! ❤️🥰🙌
Let me guess: One of those special tools needed which are only available at authorized MB Dealerships.
A-n-n-d yep! ☺️🤔😳😲😟
🤣 It's almost that bad! You need a very specific tool that is much harder to find in order to easily put it on and take it off. Just wait til you see what ended up happening. Part two will be out Wednesday or Thursday! 😅🙌 -Katelyn
@@NewstateNomads I had the same issue once trying to change a lightbulb on my ding-dang regular American car! Finally the one guy told me about their "special tools" deal. 😠 See how they did that?!
Looking forward to the "rest of the story"!
We are learning so much from you both! We have a Mercedes-Benz too and she is tricky with her start button. 😆
Love the videos keep them coming. Sorry to hear about the miss-adventure with the filter. I just love the comedy and drama you guy's are great telling stories. It shows that you used to do it for a living. Oops you still are. LOL Safe travels.
Haha thanks so much Richard! 😊❤️ We're just glad people like you keep tuning in! Thanks so much for all the support!
Cross country road trip turned into a drama series 😳
Haha for real 😅 we weren't expecting all that but ya gotta laugh and keep on going!
So sorry for your troubles. Hey, if everything always went perfectly, there would be no unexpected adventure! 🤔😁😎 Also, as much husband says, gotta buy another tool....🤦♀️ He loves that part.
Chin up and keep smiling!! It's all part of the plan! Safe travels!!!
😂 yep, a man and his tools!
You're right about that! And what fun is life without a little adventure 🤣 hahaha that's too funny!
Could it be getting firmware download? So it won’t run until after it finishes with the mother ship?
