This may be your best coverage yet. Great video of the firefighters at work like a smooth running army, the curious spectators, the nearby traffic on the freeway, the NY skyline, the news reporters, concerned citizens, the spaghetti pile of hose lines, the devastation of the businesses...you caught it all and gave me the feeling that I was actually there...(except for the smoke--I don't need that.) Thank you!
This is devastating. It is so sad. Coming from a little town it is hard to imagine this kind of fire and this many fire fighters. God bless them all. Thank you for bringing these videos for us to see and learn from.
Great coverage of this demon fire John. I hope nobody was injured. I liked that the community were handing out bottled water to the firefighters. These guys were exhausted. 🇬🇧
THEY HAD SEVERAL INJURIES BUT EVERYONE IS EXPECTED TO BE OK.....THIS WAS A HORRIFIC FIRE INDEED......ANYWAY, YOUR WELCOME AND THANKS SO MUCH MAXINE.....
Spectacular coverage, JJ of a vicious fire in a unique Brooklyn neighborhood, Williamsburg. Not too far from where I attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn in 1956-1960. I am so happy you mentioned our Hasidic community brothers who have been a part of this community for so many years. FDNY in an all out attack on this fire. Thanks so much!
I was interested in getting a better look at the two very old red brick apartment buildings next to the fire buildings so I did a Google search. Most of the surrounding buildings in the immediate area are of very old construction too. The area seems to hold a lot of history with some interesting old architecture. Those old wood constructed buildings housing the businesses, each one connected to the other, didn't have a chance of surviving the fire. You and Skyler did a great job of filming, as usual. Great job as always by the FDNY.
Once again, JJ, you've gone above and beyond the limit to bring us the very best views!👍🏻👏 My heart goes out to all of the members and videographers out there in that heat and keeping folks safe! ❤
WELL, EVERYONE IS OK NOW AND I AM GLAD YOU LIKED THE FOOTAGE AND VIDEO.....I TRY VERY HARD TO BRING YOU ALL THE VERY BEST WHEN POSSIBLE.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Awesome coverage like you always deliver for us! Thank you for all your hard work and 100% great effort you put into bringing us these videos. Stay safe out there and God bless.
Incredible video 👍..FDNY amazing job!!!!!! God Bless them for there hard work.. this video you show all the lines hoses laying everywhere they do an amazing job in cleaning and packing the hoses back in the 🚒 trucks.. 👍 Well Done!!!
Great coverage as always. I must comment though. I am old school. So when I see the Commissioner of the FDNY in jeans I loose even more respect for her.
Thanks for another great video, JJ! Your coverage of these fires is beyond spectacular! I don't understand how you're allowed to get so close. I live in the Phoenix area, and I wouldn't be able to get within a mile of an incident like this. Just please watch yourself around the smoke. It is very hazardous, and you don't need to be putting yourself in that kind of danger just for a video. Be safe brother!
Miss the days when you could smell it before you even got there. Everyone amped it up a notch and we did our thing. Sounds bad to a non firefighter, but we had a lot of good fires where everyone got to go in and “play” Of course it was working, but to us it really did not feel like work.
For some reason I was thinking about that. Never a firefighter but worked for a large gas utility in MASS. As a kid 70s the local FD was treated like the unwanted kid. Financially cut to the bone but major fires weekly and the great Lynn fire 1982 wiped out blocks of old factories up to 8flrs of oil soaked wooden floors.
My husband was a firefighter and our son and daughter are both firefighter/paramedics. My husband always said when getting to a fire that it was cookin.
Hi JJ. Cockloft fires are tough to put out. They have to pull ceilings, but when you have abandoned the stores, you pretty much have to wait till it burns thru the roof. Then it collapses down and burns. It's easier to put out. All 9 stores shared the same roof. No basements, just a utility room for all 9 stores under 1 store. Like they say, don't trust the truss roof. Thanks for video.
Excellent, excellent video, John! You caught all of it and then some. Great angles and great work showing the whole operation and its fringe edges. That one didn't want to stop. It ran the whole length and didn't stop til it reached the other end. That says a lot for fire walls between individual businesses but from the looks of things, I don't know if THOSE would even have stopped this one. Lot of tired firefighters and, I'm sure, the videographer, too. Fantastic job, John. Stay safe out there, my friend.
Thank you for the wonderful coverage John. Those wooden old-fashioned buildings were very beautiful in their day. Sadly, fire loves wood. Glad nobody got hurt so badly as to loose a limb or life. I didn't see that refreshment van. Hopefully the entire Firefighters crew got their rest, grub and got just praise.
Great video. FDNY had a lot of work to do on this job, hopefully the person checked on by EMS will be ok. Loss of several businesses. FDNY had a lot of hose in the street for this incident. This is no way to spend a Sunday, stay safe.
As always, excellent coverage and video. It reminds me of the 70s war years. We would have jobs like this every summer weekend in 1975 - 76 in Brooklyn. When one darkens down there would be another one within a mile. Stay safe !!!
JJ great work as usual. For the benefit of your worldwide audience: Based upon the writing on the school buses, it appears that the fire occurred in Satmar Chasidic neighborhood. This is one of the many groups within the Chasidic movement. Satmar is the name of the Hungarian area in which the movement started.
Great coverage John. Thank you. I was thinking, no firewalls between businesses. So very sad for the shop owners, and the neighborhood that relied on those stores. I am curious how this fire started. It just shot down the line of those stores. Prayers to the reported 10 fire fighters who were reported, had to be taken to the hospital. Blessings to all the members. Fantastic job as always please stay safe. Blessings to you, John for bringing us a long. Everyone, please do your best to stay safe! 🤗
IT WAS REPORTED THAT IT STARTED IN A STOVE IN ONE OF THE BUSINESS.....IT WAS A TERRIBE FIRE FOR ALL INVOLVED ESPECIALLY THE COMMUNITY.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Finally, a big one even though we didn't actually see a fire. You do great work. IMO, best videographer on RUclips. Always concerned about you when there's lots of smoke, it just adds to your nasty cough. So be careful and take care of yourself. Best videographer on RUclips. Thanks John.
Man these fire crews seem to be on the road 24/7, might as well take the fire-house on the runs with them. We could never make it with out all the first responders. Very good video coverage done by you🚒🚒🚒🚒🚒🚒👍👍👍👍👍
Always do a great job getting the best angles of the tactics they use. As always my friend stay safe. I've been watching your videos just haven't commented in a while been trying to catch up on videos of all my channels i watch. Stay safe 👍✌️
IT'S OK GARY.....I AM HAPPY YOU ENJOY AND WATCH MY VIDEOS. I DO REMEMBER YOUR NAME TOO AND GLAD YOU ARE WELL.....ANYWAY AS ALWAYS THAT MEANS A LOT TO ME TO HEAR AND OF COURSE THANKS SO VERY MUCH.....
AWESOME video. Too bad there was so much destruction but your coverage of it was amazing. I'm a photographer and videographer and appreciate watching well made content. It was nice to see the firefighters in action close up. I learned a lot about firefighting that I never knew before so it was informational, educational, and, despite the tragedy, very engaging and entertaining. Keep up the great work!
Great catch. Once again I will comment with a little FDNY history. You made a comment about the amount of hose on the street . Back before the days of satellite hose and the super pumper, three to four parallel stretches of 2 1/2 hose would be used instead of satellite hose today. So at a incident like this you may hav seen 3 to 4 times the amount of hose. So much hose that engine carried hose tags. A tag would be attached at the nozzle or appliance where water was being applied to the fire and a matching tag was attached at the supply engine discharge. The tags would have the engine co. Number on them and a number so the chauffeur would know what discharge the line was fed by. In the mass of hose the nozzle team would know exactly who to contact about their water supply.
WOW! THAT IS REALLY PRICELESS INFORMATION THAT YOU ALWAYS PROVIDE TO US THOMAS.....SO, WERE YOU EVER A FDNY MEMBER OR JUST A DEDICATED FDNY FIRE BUFF.....YOU KNOWLEDGE IS EXTRAORDINARY! THANKS SO VERY MUCH ALWAYS THOMAS.....
@@THEMAJESTIRIUM1 I grew up to be a FF(not FDNY). I lived in Bergenfield NJ. and did my buffing there and in NYC. Since I was a kid I had to take public transportation to get to jobs in the city. So when I was not visiting FDNY houses where i could ride with them sometimes ( don’t know if that was legal by department regulations then). But I knew the chiefs that would look the other way I guess. I had desk top radios some for FDNY and some for Bergen county departments. Unfortunately the technology was not there for hand held portable scanners of today. If wasn’t already in the city I had to take transportation to the scene so I went to only the biggest incidents so I could have time to get there. But I Bergen county I was able to get to some more routine jobs like you do. The FDNY has always treated their true buff’s well as they do you now. I was recognized by Chief of Department John O Hagen once. I visited many houses and the training center when it was o Roosevelt island. The FDNY also had a TV program called “on the job “ that was produced at the training center and broadcast two times a week on channel 31(WNYC). This was real FDNY training. It was required watching in FDNY houses. Many other departments within the broadcast range of the Empire State Building used it also in their training programs. This was also a great way for Buffs to really understand what was going on at incident sites. I do truly understand what you do and why you do it. I do truly enjoy you using modern technology along with Skyler to bring the art of buffing to the masses. Keep up the good work and stay safe my friend.
Great coverage on this fire. But you know what really sucks?. The Firefighters bust thier butts for hours in the heat of the day and radiant fire heat and then they have put all that hose away damn. Take care and be safe brother. Greg
Great video always JJ. For those curios, the school bus at 1:42 is for a Hassodic school. It reads "Yeshiva (seminary) of those who study the Torah (in memory of) Hannah Sanz of Klozenberg"
Great video, don’t feel bad. From what I was told, this caught all the camera crews by surprise and no one has better footage than you. I can’t tell you how many times my crime team and I responded from the 79 or 81 up to the 90/94 for jobs on the J or L line and we drove rt past these buildings to get there. That police booth has been like that since I first saw it in 91.
Another outstanding job How do you manage to cover Fire’s better than the news with greater detail thank you for another great coverage. It would be great. Do a video shot in Sweet on what scanner some radio listen with your equipment is used to cover these fires.
WELL, I TRY TO FOCUS ON ALL THE IMPORTANT POINTS OF WHAT IS GOING ON AND TRY TO CAPTURE AND BRING IT TO YOU ALL.....OF THE BEST FOOTAGE POSSIBLE....THANKS AGAIN MARK.....
Very tight Quarters in that section of Brooklyn, It’s a maze of alleys and store fronts! Be Safe my Brother worked down there in the late 90’s . Still hasn’t Changed !! Mozeltov !!!
Hi, thanks for another video of the fireman's nightmare: a taxpayer fire! I reckon only some industrial fires are worse than that! Anyway, this fire again matches the quality of previous taxpayer fires we could watch on this channel: a large number of businesses burning simultaneously, with a high fireload, no firewalls, and a fire escalating in minutes! This scenario is accompanied by a very clear radio communication, with this distinctive NY accent🙂!
I suspect they were being hit by the water stream from a tower ladder. The stream is very strong, I’ve seen it remove siding from a building! You definitely don’t want to be hit by it.
Great footage as always my friend.....BUT i do have one question "Where da RAC at? Where da RAC at?" I think this is the first video where there was no water on da lens....Props to U, FDNY, NYPD, da RAC, ConED, EMS, for everything u all do to knock down these fires and bring us this breath taking footage that u show u everyday!
HAHAHA! I THINK I GOT THE RAC IN THE BEGGINING BUT NICE TO HEAR FROM YA AGAIN AND HOPE YOU ARE WELL.....THIS WAS A DIFFICULT FIRE INDEED WITH LOTS OF MOVING PARTS.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Once again Thank You My Brother for your time and dedication to show us the best video and coverage And I do have to say And I can speak for everybody I prefer watching your video cuz you give us maximum time of footage than your boy Tyler Skyler whatever I'd rather watch an hour or two than 20min the other guys do Keep up the great job you do We all appreciated it
THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE KIND WORDS AND SUPPORT ROLAND.....AS FOR SKYLER HE DOES GREAT WORK AND HAS HIS OWN STYLE WHICH MAKES HIS VIDEOS DIFFERENT AND SHORTER.....THANKS AGAIN.....;o)
This is so sad. I feel bad for all those who lost their businesses. Any news on the members who were transported to the hospital? Great job as usual to you and the FDNY.
I HEARD EVERYOINE WAS OK AFTER AND YES IT IS SAD TO SEE THESE TYPE OF LARGE SCALE FIRES THAT AFFECT EVERYONE, BOTH THE OWNERS AND COMMUNITIES, MAUREEN.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
This fire was a lot of work and it's a shame they couldn't have saved some of those stores. It sure wasn't from the lack of effort on the part of the FDNY. Those guys gave it their all. It's just a crying shame they didn't get much in return for their hard work. I always took pride in saving anything we could save. I pulled up on a fire once, and saw off duty firefighters from another department moving out a few pieces of furniture and a grandfather clock.
Talking about heat: it's the same freaky weather over here in Germany, hot, humid, about 95°F, makes me feel somewhere else, Saigon maybe! All the best again!
#Squad 18 #Tonka Truck #E54/ladder 4 #Nevermissedaperformance #PRIDEOFMANHATTAN Great coverage my friend the Tonka truck was killing it feel sorry for this Jewish community and what they lost today great work by the members and special shout out to the Manhattan Bronx Queens Brooklyn units working this major blaze and this is the best department in the country Squad 99 thank you for the dedication and hard work day in and out 2N2 my friend. 1:18:03
Hay Pal, another one...HOT off the press as they say, your you tube is very addictive, but when there is nothing on UK TV, whats the best way to spend the night. Stay safe mate, another great video... PS GET THAT COUGH LOOKED AT MATE.. WHERE WAS THE RAC AT lol
Excellent coverage as always! FDNY took a beating but they did their best. Common cockloft fires are the worst, perfect example of why building codes exist, firewalls minimize losses. Was there a thunderstorm in the area when this happened?? ⚡⚡ 🤔 I pray they all had good insurance, this is really sad to see. Hope all FDNY injuries are minimal, glad no serious injuries, this really sucks. I think they need more buses - WTF was this some kind of field trip???
WELL, THOSE BUSES ARE THERE BECAUSE THIER SCHOOLS ARE CLOSE BY AND THAT IS WHERE THEY STORE THEM.....AS FOR THE FIRE YES THESE ARE VERY ROUGH AND TOUGH FIRES TO FIGHT ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY GET IN THE COCKLOFT AREA.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
@@THEMAJESTIRIUM1 John, Sorry, I don't know the area but should have known better that that would be why they were there and there's always a limited amount of parking space in NYC. My bad.🤭
This is going to sound odd. But your voice over of fires is calming to me. This week and weather has been hell. We hit a heat index of 123°F today. I'm sitting between the AC and the fan and this will be my meditation tonight.
Old buildings ,all of that dried out timbers and other materials. What was the building code,no fire walls? JJ great coverage on all the moving parts. 👍🚒👍🚒
All the older building are "grandfathered" in. When they rebuild they will have to meet current codes.Where I live only update needed on a 120 yr old building was ground fault outlets in bath and kitchen and laundry. The 80 yr old tube and spool wiring was ok. No one could afford to update an old building it would cost less to tear it down and build a new one. What are the customers going to do during that 2-3 yr period, extra time for all the permits and paper work. Also someone who does business in a small store like those can't afford to be closed for that long. They also probably only have insurance for the original cost not rebuild in todays market, costs would be at 3 to 4 times higher maybe a lot more.
@suesmith5746 Back when these buildings were built. They didn't have the codes we have now. On my renovation we have build to the new current standards.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE GREAT TRANSLATION AND ALSO THE KIND WORDS TOWARDS ME.....
I watch your channel from England, you do a great job, and fantastic coverage and commentary. Stay safe m8.
GLAD YOU ENJOY MY VIDEOS AND CHANNEL.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Very tight Quarters in that section of Brooklyn, It’s a maze of alleys and store fronts! Be Safe my Brother worked down there in the late 90’s . Still hasn’t Changed !! Mozeltov !!!
Great job!
THANKS SO MUCH.....
THANKS SO MUCH.....
Great video jj
THANKS SO MUCH.....
Gonna get u a helmet for that glass and debris, brother. As always....great job !
MAYBE AND OF COURSE THANKS SO MUCH THOMAS.....
Liked and shared
Great Job Bro. Here Again Another Fantastic Job By NYFD Great Containment. Stay Safe JJ.☮🤜🤛
WELL, THAT IS MOST KIND OF YOU JAMES AND OF COURSE THANKS SO MUCH.....
Very nice! Cheers!
Thank you! Cheers!
Getting hit by a tower ladder must hurt.......
First doozy in a while. Hope you're safe.
Jake from NH
Working in this conditions is like doing all olympic disciplines at one time.
YES INDEED.....VERY HARD TO WORK IN THIS TYPE OF SITUATION ALL AROUND.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Wow that’s a major emergency structure fire indeed
YES IT WAS INDEED.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
OH WOW INTERETING INDEED. AND YES THIS WAS A TERRIBLE FIRE ALL AROUND.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Unbelievable how many Taxpayers going up in Flames in the last 2 Years
YES, LOTS ALL THE TIME.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Talking about heat: it's the same freaky weather over here in Germany, hot, humid, about 95°F, makes me feel somewhere else, Saigon maybe! All the best again!
I HEAR YA.....STAY COOL AND SAFE AND OF COURSE THANKS SO MUCH.....
Another tremendous video.

WELL, THAT MEANS A LOT FOR ME TO HEAR RICH.....GLAD YOU ENJOY THE VIDEOS AND CHANNEL AND OF COURSE THANKS SO MUCH.....
HERO'S AMERICA FDNY I MISS NYC
THANKS SO MUCH.....
@@THEMAJESTIRIUM1 John,
Sorry, I don't know the area but should have known better that that would be why they were there and there's always a limited amount of parking space in NYC. My bad.🤭
Excellent Coverage Of This Cockloft Inferno, 🔥 🚒🇺🇸 What Was The Causative Factor, Roof Shots Were Exceptional, 🚑 🚒🇺🇸 🤺🤺🤺🇺🇸
THEY HAVE NOT SAID WHAT CAUSE IT YET BUT THANKS SO MUCH ROBERT.....
Do you have, or can you do a feature on how the command station desk works? What are they looking at and what do all the pieces mean?
WELL, I WILL TRY BUT THEY REALLY DON'T CARE FOR THAT.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
JJ you need a MSA mask and filter to have in your vehicle. I still have a old black jacket from 35 years ago and doesn't fit me anymore !!
OH WOW.....THE JACKET MUST BE COOL AND CAN PROBABLY TELL MANY STORIES.....AS FOR THE MASK I AGREE.....GONNA LOOK INTO IT.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Fire Marshal gonna have his hands full with that investigation.
Careless smoking for sure.
Would it be politically incorrect to use the mice with marches term or some type of lightning ? Asking for a friend ! 😂
@@25yrsotj there is a chance of Jewish lighting every day in Williamsburg.
@25yrsotj think you mean mice with matches. That line is sooooo overused. Time to come up with something a bit original.
@MR1977. Trust me, I saw how entitled that community was in the 90 and the 71,77 and 66 !
Fire Commissioner Kavanaugh has her cute little boots and short jeans on! A total joke of a commissioner!
Agree 💯 %
WELL.....
Nice man to let you in the building.
YES INDEED.....PEOPLE ALWAYS WONDER HOW I GET ON THE ADJACENT ROOFS.....THERE IS IS.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
@suesmith5746
Back when these buildings were built. They didn't have the codes we have now. On my renovation we have build to the new current standards.
Hello my friend from Winnipeg Canada 🇨🇦 what caused the fire hope you are well and staying safe once again you bring very good footage
I HEARD IT WAS A STOVE FIRE INSIDE ONE OF THE STORES.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Seeing all those blocks on the command post board, can you imagine how difficult it must have been before modern technology
They managed
IT WAS HARD FOR SURE BUT THEY GOT IT DONE ALL THE SAME.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
